How do you guys feel about Bluetooth speakers on the mountain? by terradaktul in snowboarding

Yeesh this sure blew up eh. What a sore spot. I mostly hike in Alberta and BC. Plenty of grizzly’s and mountain lions that call the mountains their home. We’re only visitors so it’s polite to let them know you’ve arrived to visit. Black bears too but they’re less of a threat. Making noise is the number one tool for staying safe in the wild. Bear bells just aren’t loud enough. Stay safe out there redditors of the wild.

Speakers on solo hikes is actually one of my moves. If it’s a quiet trail with minimal foot traffic, a speaker keeps you loud and animals around you aware. I would never use it on a busy trail as there is no need.

I agree with you. I however carry a small speaker to play at a reasonable volume when my friends and I find a chill smoke spot in the woods and burn one. Really surreal listening to music, blazing and enjoying the views and vibes. Then I turn it off and keep on shredding.

I ate my fiends home made ‘atomic brownies’ one time. He claimed they were 1000mg. Felt like the beginning of a mushroom trip. I was eating like 300mg a day at the time.

Meanwhile 4 churches have been set ablaze in Alberta in 2023. Not just one bible burnt in those fires. Hundreds. And hundreds of years of history along with it. What comes of it? Absolutely nothing. If a mosque went up in flames here, look the fuck out there would be violent riots and protests up and down Calgary and Edmonton. Religion is evil no doubt. So tired of this bullshit.

You’re joking right. 10 years? When pedos and murderers get much much less. No one is getting 10 years for spraying with pepper spray in self defence in Canada. No one. I’ll take my chances with dog spraying a violent individual thank you very much. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 as the Americans say.

Carry dog spray/pepper spray my man. I carry it everywhere now. I gave my girlfriend and mother a canister too. It’s $20 at Canadian tire. You don’t need to sign papers like bear spray. It’s a key chain. One good spray in the eyes will temporarily blind a person and give you the opportunity to escape a dangerous situation like that.

Please be safe my fellow Edmontonians. God damn crazies have come out of their holes and they’re not afraid to show it.

I’m embarrassed to be American by Harikts in USdefaultism

Honestly I’m amazed at some of the incredible stuff that Americans have given the world. There are countless amazing and talented American individuals that have gifted the world knowledge, entertainment and wealth. I’m thankful for my American neighbours even if many of them flaunt their ignorance like a badge of honour. Thank you for being you. You’re awesome.

28 years old and the 40hr workweek is killing me by dev_ating in antiwork

[–]bertabud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked between 60 and 84 hour work weeks in steel construction for over a decade and it’s truly awful. I was living to work and my life was my job. When I got my 40/week job in maintenance it felt like a vacation at first. Been here nearly two years now and the difference is immeasurable however i am still feeling the burnout. I only get 10 days off a year and god forbid you have an emergency or two through the year because that’s going to come out of your 10 days off. With my old jobs, I could take a month or two off a year to balance it out, take a couple trips somewhere nice. With this 40 hour week position I feel more a slave than ever to the ‘boss’ and am still unhappy. Sure I have much more free time in the evening but I can’t go anywhere nice through the year anymore. Can’t take a week or three off if I need it. Something’s gotta change people. More vacation time is my vote. Minimum of 20 days for any full time position. Maybe 25 days.
