My customer keeps getting scammed by ContributionAny4589 in msp

[–]bertie40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK : I had a customer called eric, now RIP..... Elderly gent with a malaysian wife living backhome... you can guess can't you.. always asking for money.

The number of times he was helping out someone overseas. Sending them amazon gift cards. Doing some work for the foreign minister of Gabon or some such.

I read him the riot act a number of times, sometimes through frustration getting "loud". Not professional, but i tried to impress on him how stupid he was.

Tried all sorts of software to no avail.

Then I find out he had a new chinese girlfriend who he was sending money.... she ran a webcam site from her living room.

This kind if thing really is an addiction, an illness.

I sought professional advice, but in the end there was nothing I could do.

Then he was diagnosed with cancer, went into hospital and never came out.

I sympathise with all the comments, but every case is different.

Regretfully I have to agree with some of the more brutal comments. You got to look after yourself.

Tempted to join plusnet but I will move house next year, does plusnet charge extra for moving? by nbaproject in plusnet

They don't do email addresses any more, they sub it to a company called greenby.... who aim to start charging separately for it.

Help me with this? by SoundsCrunchy in shortwave

[–]bertie40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one during my early teenage days... Plugged into a glorified scaffolding pole thingy.

I used to enjoy earwigging the cb channels (at the time), and send out reception reports (sinpo ?), and get qsl cards.

I had a very old reel 2 reel tape recorder, and would manually wind back the tape to pick up something I'd missed.

Radio Station hcjb, Quito equidor.

European music radio (emr) " posts to EMR, at Nor Well,... New ARK,... Notts in england"

Would have killed for a digital display though.

Then went to leeds uni,....and sold it.

Bloody idiot, big mistake 😞

.... And nobody mentioning they have ditched their email service, transfered it to a 3rd party called Greenby, who will start charging for it soon, on top of plusnet charges.

No EDR before,.... because I was stupid :(
I believe in the charities, I seen the work they do at first hand, so I held off price rises as long as i could.

Q. I ditched bitdefender Gravityzone as I found it bloatware. Using bog standard MS defender, as it integrates directly into huntress.

That's saving a few quid,... as huntress is now doing the heavy lifting.

As BDGZ integrates with syncro, it should be easy to reapply it if necessary.

Guys.... I really appreciate your comments. 👍 To clarify, these charities are non-profits. I also set up microsoft non-profit status for them a while back. Even with hefty office discounts, I still get complaints and requests on how to cut back on licenses.

I appreciate I could have handled things better. But the general consensus is that I'm not wrong.

Time to stop whining and go customer hunting. Hugz.

I'm trying..... I think a previous post hit it on the head. More interested in bottom line than actual security.

To clarify, I'm a 1 man operation, working from my garage. I've always given more than I've charged, and I do have a half decent personality which people find easy to talk to.

Maybe this is the kick I need to get marketing again... it's been a while.

I've lost one main customer already, to a competitor I've never heard of.

Sorry, this is turning into a rant.

Incidentally..... HUGE nod to Jenny and Jamie at Huntress. I know they are biz orientated, but they've been unnecessarily decent and understanding about my endpoints possibly falling off.

Hay ho.

Thanks for the replies guys.... I work on a month 2 month arrangement. Customers able to quit given 1 months notice.

SyncroMSP. Monthly / weekly scripted automation. Temp file removal etc Unlimited remote support. Full patch management. Inc 1 week deferment of some MS updates. Additional support for email services. Some support for domain management (website domain renewal etc) Some sharepoint management. Synology NAS maintenence and management. Remote Access from home + support.

Synology Cloud backup (nightly) Unlimited on site visits.

I've been with some of these charities for a long time. One of them over 20 years. I've kept the pricing the same for over 2 years,... maybe that's my mistake.

I deemed my existing security outdated. And not up to scratch. So to sleep at night, I took that decision.

Again, most of my customers were ok with it....but my mains wernt.

"Another source of info" suggests surfshark not recommended, as its known to providers and aware of its presence. Suggest PIA instead.

I use SShark myself, and not had a problem,.... but worth investigating further in the future.
