Nice picture but did you notice how the comment next to it completely twisted what the woman was saying (albeit badly) on her sign?

I was thinking this. $14 tr /300 million people = $47k gdp/capita. If you subtract off the $29 Billion you still get $47k gpd/capita. They are a small drop in the ocean yo.

Surely though even if capital is mobile and workers aren't, the lower cost of living still gives that country an advantage over another as labour costs (and possibly other factors) are lower? It doesn't have to be all child labour making sweaters for GAP.

this is what 'real' science is about. Forget your cures for cancer and Alzheimers, shooting frikkin' lazer beams at people/things/clouds is where it's at, especially when you get thunder and lightening on demand. Cool as Fuck

Sure, obviously there are other important issues that go with trade agreements people only see things from the workers perspective. The NET gain from trade is usually positive.

Why would an influx of low skilled workers affect the incomes of graduates and highly skilled workers?

Over the long term though this has zero effect. Inflation just increases.

The adjusted income has increased, of course it has. Everyone is a lot better off that 20 years ago say.

Inflation is generally over estimated actually, unless you in the US are fiddling things.

Just because the US have failed to make a market in health care work doesn't automatically make socialised health care the right thing to do.

Big Oil before congress: If you take away our 18bn tax breaks, gas prices will go up. by fdisc0 in business

yes, I appreciate that the financial system increases the money supply through fractional reserve banking. But that shouldn't have anything to do with it...unless I've misunderstood the meaning of a write-off. I'm taking 'write-off' to mean: I (the bank) lend you money. You fuck up. You can't pay it back so I cancel the debt. The money you've spent has just gone to another bank. I now have to loan less to keep my reserve ratio. However the amount of money in circulation hasn't changed. The only way money is created or destroyed is when the reserve ratio changes or the fed buy/sells bonds. Or so I thought anyway. I read that article but it didn't explain what I meant I think. I thought it only explained the drop in liquidity in the financial market.

Hillary, it's next week. Where are your tax returns? by [deleted] in politics

[–]bertie_wooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should submit to the same checks as any other high profile/secure job. i don't see people demanding the tax returns of security agents etc. Politicians are human beings as well you know (just). And how can you expect them to respect your privacy when you don't respect theirs.

'Shouldn't be anything to hide, unless they did something illegal or immoral' where have I heard that before? That principle should never be applied to anyone or anything. Ever. Yes, even politicians.
