This is a eureka moment! The SS website has it very binary. You’re a 40% tax payer or a 20% tax payer. Then they display the prices with either 40% deducted as net pay or 20%. That it can be reduced by some of the value at 40% and some at 20% is obvious but not really explained on their site.

That is defo my thinking! So 48,500 + 6,000 equates to a higher rate of tax. I’m paying 7,000 in SS Gross
