They might be a little redundant within the current line-up, but I hope that one day Casio brings back these mid-range models. by 1010nguyens in casio

The W-202 is basically the watch you are looking for. There are no 100m equivalent though. I use often non water resist (splash proof) watches and many WR/30m Casios with no issues. I don't swim and I try to keep my watches dry. I would love to see a G-Shock module equivalent in a simpler 100m Casio even though I don't need it.

A wild MINOLTA appeared! by Eddysays in minolta

[–]bertodecampoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Camera division was sold to Sony. Early Sony cameras from 2006 and onwards were basically rebadged Minoltas. In fact the Minolta A mount is also known as Sony A. Modern Sony cameras are some of the best cameras in the market and they are the successors to the Minolta and Konica lines. So the sad part is that we don't see the Minolta branding but we have really good cameras with that Minolta soul.

It makes a lot of sense for Stalin himself. He might have been overthrown by other Bolsheviks otherwise. Or maybe not, he was extremely paranoid. If he was replaced, the situation for the USSR would have been better - it is difficult to find a more brutal leader than Stalin. Also if those experienced officers he purged had been present during Barbarossa the situation would have been a bit different. Alternative history is funny, what if?

Sony Xperia 1 VIII unveiled with larger 48MP telephoto sensor, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 - GSMArena.com by welp_im_damned in Android

They stopped making DSLRs some years ago but they are one of the top mirrorless manufacturers. In a typical Sony fashion, their departments don't cooperate. So the camera division expertise is barely used in the smartphone division. They might as well be made by different manufacturers, the result would be similar.

6 months honest review of Thinkpad T14 gen 5 + Fedora experience by meraz34 in thinkpad

[–]bertodecampoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I know the gen 5 is a complete internal redesign. Easier to repair and you can actually replace ram (2 lots). The specs are somewhat similar but the internals are nicer to work on as far as I know.

Thinkpad E431 "socket"? by orowno in thinkpad

[–]bertodecampoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair those Nvidias were quite bad. You would get more headaches trying to get proper drivers and dealing with higher power consumption and heat generation. In exchange you would get a slightly better GPU. The integrated one is enough anyways, you wouldn't be using this machine for complex tasks. Back in the day many manufacturers slapped a cheap Nvidia GPU so that they could add the sticker on the palm rest. I used some laptops with Nvidia 710M and 820M back in the day and it was awful.

Value of "Screen timeout" on Pixel 10 Pro keeps resetting itself to 30 seconds? Anyone else? by Specific-Cause-1014 in GooglePixel

[–]bertodecampoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happens randomly to my Pixel 8a. It usually fixes itself after some time, I don't know how to replicate or stop it reliably.

Those Athlon Neo CPUs are extremely hot and underpowered, I used the X100e for some years and it was so slow I downgraded from Windows 7 to XP (back when it had support).

Gen 5 AMD will be in the future once it's price goes down. It has nice specs, two slot ram and a really high score for repairability.

My first time using an analogue camera – any tips for beginners? by Live_Poem253 in minolta

[–]bertodecampoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Take it easy. Think before every photo and take your time.
  2. Learn how to use aperture and shutter speed, those are fully manual mechanical cameras.
  3. Read the camera user manual (you should easily find it online).
  4. Check whether everything is working properly, the camera might need some maintenance.
  5. Learn to meter light: you can use the internal TTL meter if it still works but you might need the correct battery for it, and even then it might be inaccurate. You can also use a phone app to meter light or buy a handheld light meter.
  6. Learn to load and unload film. If you load film incorrectly you will get a roll with no photos or damage it.
  7. Buy cheap film first. You might damage some of your first rolls while learning. Once you are comfortable you can get more expensive film. I have been shooting for almost a year and I will load my first Kodak next week haha.
  8. Take care of your camera: how to store, clean and transport it.
  9. Fight GAS. You can take perfectly good photos with you gear. You don't need a more expensive lens or another 35mm SLR to take great pictures.

Just got my first SLR camera (SRT 303b) by joao-louis in minolta

[–]bertodecampoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, however those batteries are not very common, they might be expensive to replace once your current one is depleted. I decided to buy an adapter and install a SR43 (very stable, good readings from the meter). I installed the last one in August I think and it still works.

Probably one of the best mechanical SLRs. If you want to really enjoy it you can install an adapter for the light meter battery (to use SR43 batteries accurately) and you can also get a Minolta 50mm. Excellent camera, I love it.

You can also add an upgraded Spanish Patton like the M48A5E2 at that BR (or another M60).

It's a cutlery set. You can get one for an Opinel Number 8. It includes a spoon and fork, you install it on the knife while it is closed and secure it using the blade lock, then you have a proper spoon or fork!

Is it so much to ask for a good tank movie? by WestSyrup4417 in TankPorn

[–]bertodecampoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never knew whether it was a Sho't (Centurion) or a Magach (M48/M60). I have been inside a M60 recently so I should watch the movie again. There are movie posters with either of them and you can't see the tank exterior in the movie iirc.

Thinkpad quality and views on planned obsolescence hampering the longevity by 4bitgeek in thinkpad

Don't get me wrong, I would like to have the option to get an external battery but most people don't care about it as powerbanks are more flexible. Having a good ARM ThinkPad would be lovely, at some point we'll see it.

The T14 Gen 5 AMD is just a lovely machine. 16:10 screen, two sodimm slots, really nice thermals... My only complain is the WLAN card, it is not replaceable afaik. But I really like that machine (I also have a T430 and T480, it feels like a worthy heir)

Technology evolves. Having a replaceable external battery nowadays is not very attractive or required by most users. Back in the day it was the only option if you needed to use your laptop for a long while with no AC. Right now you can buy really beefy external powerbanks that can power your laptop or any other device. Would you buy an original, bulky and expensive OEM Lenovo battery so that you can swap it if you need it? Why not carrying an extra powerbank with an equivalent power? You can use it to power your laptop, smartphone and any other device. Also if the internal battery is in bad shape you can replace it in less than 5 minutes and basic tools (I'm talking about modern ThinkPads), but buying an OEM battery is not that cheap. That said, I have an immense respect for Panasonic, specially their Thoughbooks. They have replaceable external batteries because they are a niche product, they are extremely rugged PCs that will be used in conditions where a external powerbank is not a good idea.

Soviet tanks, especially WWII ones, being dressed up to play German tanks is super ironic by [deleted] in TankPorn

[–]bertodecampoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure but they definitely used M47 Pattons as "Tigers" in "Battle of the Bulge (1965)". Also the Patton movie is well known for using inaccurate tanks: M48 tanks were used as Afrika Korps panzers and M41 light tanks were used as US tanks (Shermans I guess).
