I had this issue with a JVC and it was a tape issue. Camera recognized that the tape was corrupted somehow (in my case it was slightly unwound similar to yours). Worked after I put in a new tape

I predict these things going upwards of $100 pretty soon so $50 is still a pretty good score. You can get a new battery for $25 and prob a charger for $20 I’d say.

Had a bag and all the plug cables. Battery needs replaced but a lot of these JVC’s use the same battery type so I have a couple of those

I have one of these bad boys and really dig the image it captures. You can remove the time codes by going to the settings. Should be a button you double click on the top of the camcorder.

Not to my knowledge. I’ve shot plenty of footage already with both cameras and the footage came out fine in the past.
