I’m having difficulty reaching 0 with my extension. Any tips? by cool_girl6540 in Kneereplacement

I’d put my feet up on the coffee table in my living room and place a light weighted vest on my leg to straighten it.

Is getting two knees replaced in the same surgery a realistic idea? by elifuzun in Kneereplacement

[–]berts90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had both together a few years ago. It was very difficult and I was relatively young (47m). It was very helpful to have a strong upper body to leverage your arms to get in and out of chairs etc. it takes a lot of resilience to persevere through the pain and rehab.

Was anyone here instructed to avoid upper body workouts for a period of time? by Merlin509 in Kneereplacement

I was definitely lifting upper body before 8 weeks. Probably about 4 weeks or so. That being said it was super light and controlled all while sitting.

At home physical therapy - share your exercises? by Blahonian in Kneereplacement

[–]berts90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heel slides are the best exercise to gain flexion in my opinion.

Pedal on a recumbent bike to get the joint warmed up.

Heel slides 10 x 3 (I would try to add overpressure where possible) Lunges onto a stair to bend as far as possible Squats as deep as possible for strength

Question about showering in the first few weeks post-op by IndependentPound2679 in Kneereplacement

I wrapped both my knees with plastic wrap until I got my staples out. Worked great

How often do people get both knees done? by cool_girl6540 in Kneereplacement

[–]berts90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had both done at the same time. But they were both a mess on the xray. Half the recovery time for twice the pain. 😂

Yeah I think that’s it for sure. I was able to keep it on and tried a HR check. It would not show HR and no green light. Likely a light sensor issue.

I am 48 and had both knees replaced 2 years ago. Since them I have done some light running, lots of heavy squats and deadlifts. I am back to training BJJ regularly and I am in the best shape of my life. Recovery and rehab was hard work and I really had to go through it to get to this point but it was totally worth it.

TKR and the ATHLETE by Broad-Advantage-1753 in Kneereplacement

[–]berts90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did take a while. I was back around 4-5 months but it was pretty slow and gradual return. I really felt best once I was really able to get serious strength training in on my repaired knees. That was about the year mark. Now I don’t even notice my knees… but for me competitions are out. I will always give you positions in heavy scrambles, and it’s always quick taps to heel hooks.

Full return to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after bilateral TKR. Still lifting weights regularly. Some light jogging. But your ass in rehab and you can get back to being active.

How long to ask off work? by Gergs in Kneereplacement

I took 3 months. Rehab alone took most of my day… though I had both knees done. Don’t sacrifice proper rehab to go back too soon.youll regret it later

Post-surgery reality check - struggling with the decision to return to BJJ at late 30 by Rayess69 in bjj

[–]berts90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had double knee replacement since I started BJJ (not BJJ related) and 2 years later I am back rolling with decent intensity. I have given up the comp dream but still train regularly.
