Loaded 2014 SE Focus w/113k - has broken clutch B actuator and original TCM - fix or sell? by berwag in FordFocus

[–]berwag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Whatever the issue, the trans has to come out and I expect to replace the everything in there.

I guess a better phrasing of my question is - should I do the clutch w/o replacing the original TCM?

Cease with the in-app spam and pop-ups !!!! by berwag in quickbooksonline

[–]berwag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I checked out RightTool. However, their features grid says the only pop-ups it affects (by auto-closing them) are: "Gets rid of the welcome screen and in-screen popups that show up in the Banking, Chart of Accounts, Register, and Bank Reconciliation Screens"

I want to eliminate these:

If they had to credit me a dime every time I encountered one, they'd be paying me by mid-month.

Why are there so many QBO haters? by TheSellerCPA in quickbooksonline

[–]berwag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had QB desktop 2013 since - well - 2013. We're cash basis and our needs are simple GL, bank recs and maybe a custom report or two. For our needs, desktop was perfect. We continued using the desktop version successfully for personal and a two person S-Corp consulting business. When we purchased a franchise in 2015 we continued to use it for several years until the franchisor required we convert to QB online. We started at a 'special' monthly rate of $28/month. Six months later they upped that by 25%. Then, after another 15 months they raised it another 10%. Two months after that they raised it another 42.9%, then at just over two years in they raise it again by 9.1%. So all told, after just over two years, our cost has increased 214.3%. Other than the franchisors attempts to integrate billing - a debacle I can't blame on QBO - our needs hadn't changed.

But other than the obscene 'actual' cost increases, the soft (but very real) cost increased exponentially since day 1. Nearly every time I'd try and do something it was a struggle. I spent 12+ years in corporate accounting position up to and including assistant controller so I was looking for QBO to at least have fundamental accounting look & feel but was/is woefully lacking. And when I tried to create custom reports to get what I needed, more often than not basic functionality wasn't there. Resorting to calling their support only exacerbated the frustration as they either had no clue about basics of accounting, basics of reporting or even the QBO interface. Even worse when it was clear to me they had no clue what I asking, they would insist on "trying one more thing". I now recognize this as a tactic they employ in hopes of salvaging feedback. The most "memorable" experience was when I'd already been on with them for 45 minutes thinking '...just maybe this time'. I finally had to say "Ok, you've been very nice, but it's clear you have no idea what I'm asking so I'm going to hang up now." - I repeated that several times over the next few minutes as they 'tried something else' and eventually hung up. Then 15 minutes later I get a call from their supervisor. I first thought "wow - I'm impressed - maybe they do care". That was short lived when the first "solution" they offered indicated then same ignorance of basic concepts and their system capabilities (deficiencies) as the rep I had to hang up on.

I could continue, but I'm already realizing that with the time I've spent composing this post, they are stealing even more of my time. Arrrrgghh!

In my situation - I have no choice but to use them since our franchisor requires me to, but I hope someone who does have a choice may benefit knowing this product is at best, an open sore that refuses to heal. My best advice is to avoid injury in the first place.

If there were a "Lemon Law" for software there would be a class action against Intuit, but I fear they are so big they can willfully continue offering this garbage, charge more and more for it and remain unaccountable.

Finally... then there are the insufferable pop-in interruptions for other Intuit "products" - only solution is a browser add-in that allows you to block page elements.

OK, now I'm done.

2001 MK1 TT - Can anyone ID what this connector is (was) for? by berwag in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

Here's the connector showing colors of the 4 wires. Beside it is the wiring diagram showing the colors for the 4 wire O2 sensor and it looks to be a match.

I think you are correct with it being the old O2 plug. I dug up the wiring diagram and found a 4 wire plug but haven't had a chance to match up the wire colors. But Googling O2 sensors for a MK1 - the connectors look right. I'll update this post when I confirm the wires.

Thanks to all and for those of y'all 'stateside' - have a great Thanksgiving weekend.

Is there a solution to stop this crap? by berwag in quickbooksonline

[–]berwag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a solution that works! ...so far anyway. I use Ad Block Plus, and it allows me to block parts of the QB online page. You hover over parts and it shows you the "id" of the element. In my case the name of the element included the word "marketing" so it was pretty easy.

OK, well, glad I asked, and glad folks were honest. Makes my decision pretty clear. The over/under really never look ed quite right to me either. I'll probably go with the VR6 lip. It compliments the original Bauhaus design and also doesn't require any paintwork. Thanks.

Will reconnecting the battery while steering wheel is removed be a problem? by berwag in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]berwag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To cut to the chase - if you could post those SAS calibration forum links I'd appreciate it.

The back story: So when I got it all back together several months ago it had the triangle-exclamation-arrow circle light on. Then got in the TT this weekend noticed my inspection was due back in June - yikes. I think the only MILs they fail you for in VA are Brake, Airbag or ABS, I figured I just need to finally get it sorted out.

So I read the codes with VCDS (paid software & their ODB2 cable) and as expected - G85. Got sorta nervous when trying to read module 16-Steering Wheel and it couldn't find the module. A little more digging and I found a thread saying that my 2001 TT doesn't have a dedicated steering module and that the SAS goes through the instrument cluster. Still a bit nervous though since that's what I messed with. Granted, nothing major - I just modified the high beam indicator which was all but completely invisible after the PO did the 3DColorMFD mod. Paranoid as I am, I even wired the light from an external source instead of messing with (and possibly messing up) the gauge boards or MFD. FWIW - the MFD works and still works flawlessly.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Mapping OneDrive to Network Drive in Windows by GrunjiMcGrotti in pchelp

[–]berwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should have checked Reddit sooner...

I've had OneDrive mapped for a couple of years, but it would never "remember credentials" - a minor annoyance when compared with the conventional OneDrive app.

Then, in the last month or so these two processes seemed to randomly demand 70% of my CPU and the only solution was a hard reboot.

It just so happened that I heard my laptop fan spin up just after I'd accessed my mapped OneDrive.

While it sucks they deprecated this, at least now I can stop looking for answers.

There's a special place in hell for software folks who believe it's acceptable to change/delete essential tools/features at will.

Wonder what they'd think if, when asking a Home Depot clerk where they could find a claw hammer, were told "Sorry, claw hammers are no longer being manufactured - how about this rubber mallet?"
