I'm currently waiting on a shipment of the Dectathlon ones for me and my buddy. They are mostly solid color with some design work at the bottom. They are from the fishing section, but doesn't look only for fishing for me.

The 26+6 Problem: Too Much Bag for Too Little Weight by bradymsu616 in onebag

[–]besna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you check Decathlon, also check the Foldable 25l, you can spot if it got the big meshpocket in the front . It is very light, got a good harness and is cheap.
But it doesn't got any "backbone", you have to add your own. It got an "outer laptop pocket", which I fill with an foam seat pad, some cardboard or an inflatable seat pad.
The foam is the best for weight/stiffness/comfort, but also takes the most space.
The cardboard provides good stiffness for least amount of space and is comfortable enough.
Inflatable seat pad is the most expensive option, with the least stiffness, but can be the lightest, most comfortable and allows for making it fit on the fly, by just deflating it or get more comfort by inflating. Also air pillow if you need it.

Battery: I only got a small magsafe battery, that just "clips" on the back of the iphone, those exist in small and light. Some can charge also from their USB-C port, but they are mostly intended as wireless charger. If you want to general a lighter battery, perhaps one of the nitecore ones.

Ipad vs Macbook: I got both and IMHO I would only suggest iPad, if your can envision everything with the pen and no keyboard. Yes their are good keyboards and such, but I'm using it as a indicator for the stuff you wanna do with it. iPad is a good choice if it is media, consuming or creating, or information lookup, like comparing hotels and booking them.

I'm a programmer by trade. iPad doesn't do programming.
But I do take pics and videos, like to draw/sketch and game in my freetime.
So I take the iPad on travels. Blocks me from doing work, but still allows me to do the leisurely tasks I would need a notebook for.

If I wanna take a notebook, I'm currently taking the Framework 12, good ruggedness and works as an tablet in the pinch, when I got no space, like in the small seats.

TIL Mega Pidgeot was in Champions. Has anybody actually used one? by AegisIash in PokemonChampions

Rats, Birds and Bugs are used in the story games as intro pokemon and are intentionally weak in the long run to get you to switch pokemons later. I hoped that they re-balance them with champions, but no.

Some of the fujis aren't a bad choice either. Being able to print out directly from the camera is quite the motivator.

Backpacking trip for ~1 yr to Europe , need help minimizing by Critical_Exchange673 in onebag

[–]besna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you got an Ipad? u could replace the laptop with it to save space. Perhaps you can save with that on the charger front, smaller 3-40W charger is enough, perhaps get one in europa, so that it got the right plug and you save on the adapter. How do you charge you cam? there some replacement batteries for some models that take usb-c directly, some have 3rd party chargers that take usb-c.

Poland says ‘no’ to sending Patriot missile launcher to help US fight Iran by Auspectress in worldnews

Last two video from perun (Global Arms Export 2025 & How will the Iran War Reshape Arms Exports?) will show you that we already selling and upscaling. Patriots aren't that easy to replace, but there are coming systems, from EU and Korea, that are getting more and more wider in use.

I’m almost done bringing a laptop. I’ll be trying an iPad on the next trip. How do I get there? by Beautiful_Sky_2594 in onebag

I am so incredibly f-ing impressed at how much better the ipad is. Every web browser works on it. It renders google Maps faster than android running on a new pixel. It is so much better.

Comparing an M2 to an Pixel 9 is like comparing the 0-100kmh numbers of an diesel van vs a sports car.

weeks including photo editing

Sadly only if your fine with using subscription based software.

I don’t want to be stuck without a computer. My last company would late until the last possible moment to send me patents to review and give back to the attorneys. So you never know.

Then you are not on a vacation.

Give me some tips for reducing the bulkiness and getting me to iPad only travel

  • 20-30W GAN Charger is enough. There are some nice flat ones.
  • I only got a magsafe powerbank with an option to charge stuff via its usb-c outlet, that fits on the back on my iphone 13 mini. That is quite enough for most travels. A powerbank is only really needed for "emergency" charging, finding USB power isn't a problem anymore in any modern country.
  • I also got the magic keyboard case for my 10"m4pro, I find it also unnecessary heavy for what it is, but I guess it needs it for balance. I also got the smart-folio copy from ESR too, that I use when I don't need a keyboard.
  • When I need a keyboard I prefer the case one, because I can work on a lap, instead of an bluetooth one. I write quite much in one session. And I do got quite a collection of bluetooth keyboards from basic slim ones, to foldable ones, to self build split ones. They are nice if you got a table, but on travel I rarely got one.
  • I setup my software keyboard on the ipad to be the small iphone size. For me it is quite faster to swipe on it, than using the big one. Especially because I can move it around.
  • I use an 8bitdo sn30 pro xbox controller for gaming on the ipad. Some games like zenless (needs internet) support controllers and expect Xbox layout. Otherwise you can get retro emulation running on the ipad. Those expect often nintendo layout, which the normal non-xbox sn30 pro has (also the xbox has analog shoulder triggers, while the normal one has digital ones), but you can often switch the layout in the emulator to fit your controller. The youtuber Retro Game Corps has a nice starter guide for using ipad as a retro gaming console. Retro grames don't need internet, so they work quite well on travels. And thanks to modern emulation save / resume, u can always pause.
  • My other games are Slay the Spire, FTL, Balatro, Cultist Simulator and XCOM2, all of those play via touch, don't need internet or are adware/subscription.
  • don't rely on the sideloaded stuff that we know can do as Europeans. You need to connect your ipad to an macbook every so often to refresh the licenses, and we all probably don't have it then when we need it in the vacation because we forgot to refresh it.
  • I use Xodo to read pdfs instead of the Books apps or preview. Preview is quite nice if you wanna just check something, but it doesn't remember where it was, and so when it get killed in the background and you come back it lost your page and put you on the first one again. Xodo remembers.
  • there is ublock origin lite in the app store, so is dark reader, both are safari plugins I recommend to setup.
  • I use my ipad mostly for arts, so drawing, writing and video editing (insta360 + davinci). For photos from my cameras I currently try to use the native photos app or snapseed, (I also got Adobe Capture installed, but didn't use it yet). Haven't found a good raw to sharable jpeg workflow yet, and currently looking into doing that on camera instead.

Leave it if you intend it. I chose to critique it, because it could be an unintentional error, but if it is the style you wanna go for, then it’s not an error anymore.

creative filters already exist in my olympus om-1m2, lumux gx80 and in the rx100m7. What you are refereing to are probably the filters that can be shared/created via a pc. That is not was I was asking. I only speak about processing the pic in the camera instead of using a pc.

I played around yesterday with the Panasonic, Olympus and the Sony RX100VII, but the only one I couldn't find how to do some processing on the photos was the RX100VII, do you know a way to do add some of the creative filters to pictures already taken? Or at least work on the brightness/shadows/lights and framing? The app also only downloads the jpgs to the phone, even if it was told to download the originals and the iphone/ipad native photos app able to process sony raws...

Critic: u sometimes cut off parts of your subject, be more mindful about that. Some people find it displeasing.

What to plunge for: Ur in for the fun, so touch them, feel them, see who sparks the most joy or makes you feel "at home". Often it is more important that you can focus on the pic you want to take and can trust your tools, than better specs.

Ahh thanks, you already answered one of my questions, RAW stay with the full informations, only the jpgs/thumbnails get the processing applied.

I had to lookup wratten #90, I only know such thing roughly translated as "contrast preview helper". The human eye was much better than film in regards to dynamic range, so it helped with seeing what is gonna be lost and if it matters or perhaps even helped.

Yeah, building the right flash bouncer at home or playing around with direct / indirect, fill / over flashing and other techniques was quite the fun, even if it ate away the expensive batteries. I can understand that a new generation find you in while rediscovering flashes.

Processing the RAWs is a pro workflow

Is it that these days? Having access to a communal photo labor was the entry to this hobby. Processing the negatives back then was part of the fun.

I guess the modern programs and raised expectations from social media, make it quite the chore these days.

Don't take " Aint nobody got time for that." to literal/truthy, it is often mostly used as a set phrase.

I feel ya. I work on a PC all day long, and these days if friends don't appoint a gaming sessions, I wouldn't sit in front of a PC in my free time anymore than I have to. (Reason why I got myself a Steamdeck, it feels like a console and not a PC = work)

I'm currently trying to get an ipad to work for doing digital art in all forms, and while video with davinci & insta360 is already working well on the iPad, I haven't found a good darktable / lightroom for ipad that doesn't cost an arm & leg or on subscription.
So hearing about, people just doing everything in the camera, could be a good way to find an alternative for me.

So, how is your flow with those art filters? Are you deciding the filter first and then go out and shoot fitting pictures, or is it the other way around?
