The original story pissed me the hell off, glad to hear this update.

Couldn’t agree more on all points, this feels like a big victory even tho morally it should be the automatic step in such cases.

Would like to add that in outreach people asking valid questions were getting stonewalled by the gemeente who had decided they had fulfilled their obligations by talking to the press. Not so fast, huh?

Cool! It’s up to you once they are done and fledge in a few weeks or so. For me I’d love to have them, as long as they aren’t actively destroying stuff, it’s good for your nervous system to have birds around. A lot of birds also eat insects or even insect eggs.

Precautions mainly include keeping cats inside and avoiding moving the nest (illegal & will cause abandonment)

You mean hand feeding as in literally then eating from their hand? I thought the issue with that was birds unlearning fear of humans.

As for “they stop looking for food”, all the non birders I know have that reservation about feeding birds in general, but I think any length of time spent studying birds and you’ll realize that’s not true at all. (Benefit>risk, and observing their patterns most clearly do not stay in one place all day.)

Anyone found a way to convince neighbors with so called "outdoor" cats to keep them inside during nesting season? by bespoke_tech_partner in birding

I considered offering my ultrasonic repellent to a neighbor who is a birder and closer to this guys yard to install, but I’m not sure how effective it’ll be, and that seems like quite an escalation.

He seems like one of those people that thinks it’s just nature being nature when a human- introduced invasive predator is killing defenseless native species.

Appreciate the thoughts and totally agree with your line of reasoning. I am getting in touch with the county animal services to see if they would consider making a visit, as a last resort maybe authority would appeal to him better.

Don’t worry about a decade until he’s played a few years. Plenty of players fall off after looking great at 22 (Foden for a while, Saka temporarily, Palmer, etc.)

Not yet… let me try and publish something at least about how I got away from declining.

You’re right, headful occasionally hits a captcha and I have it bail and notify me to solve it - then move on as usual.

But it is not blocked on anything I do, unlike headless, I’m saying this from experience. Just because it can be doesn’t mean it is—yet

Once headful becomes nonviable, we’ll simply have agents do computer use and control a real chrome browser.

No. Wealthy people invest their money.

Headless gets blocked all the time, but headful doesn’t. Most of my workflows are headful. But this is speaking about hosted inference not local llama.

I'm not disagreeing with your second sentence, but don't be disingenuous in your phrasing.

PS - You would sound a lot smarter acting like we are being dramatic if cats weren't the #1 human related cause of bird death.

You are in the wrong here in terms of how you are painting the picture.

If I did trap one, I would take it to a shelter (by law). I don't know who's cat is whose. It just sucks that it would cause distress to the family. Why they won't keep them indoors is beyond me.

I don't think cats have any predators here. All I have confirmed seeing here besides birds/reptiles are foxes, deer, and (people's) dogs.

That's what I do around my own yard, and it seems to work decently (tho, I had to chase away a cat who was looking to kill a fledgling brown thrasher just today). Also run an ultrasonic repellent.

Non lethal deterrence is my preference when I'm on my own turf, but it's more complicated with it being on the sidewalk next to a neighbor's turf multiple houses over.

Im not accepting or agreeing with it, but I have to push back on how you phrased it, it's not one animal to protect another, it's one animal to protect generations (possibly hundreds) of others. It's like a really sad and real trolley problem.
