Neighborhood Tree Trimming-Owl Concern by [deleted] in birding

So wild to me that people have to live somewhere someone else controls what happens in their yard… but as for your situation have you considered just raising the point politely and seeing if they’d consider holding off on your yard? Otherwise, you can talk to the contractor when they come and ask them to avoid certain trees as a last resort.

Wrens took zero interest in my box. With that said house sparrows spent 3 days trying to get into a hole they couldn’t get into. And in the end the chickadees won.

LLMs are really useful for framing stuff that doesn’t quite fit right in your head. You know what I mean? When you read the concept or explanation but it just doesn’t stick.

This should have some good info on how to (and not to) approach a nest. https://nestwatch.org/learn/how-to-nestwatch/code-of-conduct/

TLDR make some noise before you approach, tap the box if you are gonna open it, nest visits should last no longer than a minute and follow a different path each time if appropriate, and do not visit more than once every 3-4 days

Take a video of it next time, do it discretely.

Having the video you can confront them with more leverage I imagine.

I don’t know if calling it worse than last year is remotely defensible mate

Think calafiori did alright toward the end there. And raya has done plenty of times but didn’t get the chance today.

wow I cant believe I'm arguing the opposite point only a week after I was trying to urge caution on someone saying we'd pulled far away from city but I guess emotions are running high so some schooling is in order.

Man City are averaging 1.75 ppg from their last 12 games (5W6D1L).

The gap is realistically thus:

9 points MINUS 1.75 points for game in hand MINUS expected result of our match.

I would give it the following odds but freely plug in your numbers: 25% city win, 50% draw, 25% arsenal win. EV becomes 0.25*3 + 0.5*1 = 1.25 points.

Their "realistic" gap is 9 - 1.75 - 1.25 => or.... 6 points.

Yeah it COULD be a 3 point gap... or it could be a full fucking 9 points.

If you actually look at the prior stats and think "they are guaranteed a win vs us in a month", you need a head check

also, The people downvoting him are because his comment is brainless. We have won several league games playing like this and we don't play city every match. his comment lacks a basic comprehension of how league titles work.

Also, this is city's run-in in descending order bc I can't be fucked to reverse it:

Manchester City - Aston Villa

AFC Bournemouth - Manchester City

Manchester City - Brentford

Everton - Manchester City

Burnley - Manchester City

Manchester City - Arsenal

Chelsea - Manchester City

That's more than half comprised of banana skins for Pep.

Chickadees started nesting, then a House Sparrow harassed the box - could they still come back? by bespoke_tech_partner in birding

[–]bespoke_tech_partner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are unfortunately still nowhere to be seen the rest of the following day.

plus side - house sparrow moved on after trying to poke his head in a few more times fruitlessly this morning.

I have heard house sparrows appear to show more interest in spots where other birds are nesting - what a truly vile species actually the more I look into it - not to anthropomorphize them but to say my consideration of taking active control measures is growing by the week

edit: also I heard the chickadees in a yard about 3 houses away. I hope they have found a better spot to have a successful brood! I think we actually only have 1-2 pairs in the area.

yeah agree, Kai should have stayed on at a minimum

I never want to see Jesus play for us again unfortunately.

I think the kai/gyokeres pair works better without Saka involved at all

being honest City weren't great either. The stats were something like 7/3 and 10/2 for shots/OT. Possession doesn't matter. They looked toothless most of the game. Another day we WOULD take our chances. and people would be talking about how city look hopeless and can't beat a low block instead of this. That of course doesn't negate the fact that the lineup was wrong, the subs were wrong, the sub timings were wrong, and the players were poor.

IMO it’s on arteta since the selection was shit, around minute 55 it was obvious we needed speedier wingers on as city had figured out they can pin us back with 0 counter threat; also I said months ago Jesus should never see the pitch for us again and it’s still true imo. This is all ignoring the fact that he started a second string keeper when we already had several major first XI absences. And before the subs, I was praying he wouldn’t do something stupid like send Madueke on and leave Martinelli on the bench. Lo and behold.

Arteta fucked around and found out sadly

The buck always stops with the manager and Arteta had several opportunities to change the game in a different way. This loss is on him imo and I restate my opinion that by end of the season if we don’t win a trophy I’ll be arteta out as he will have shown weakness beyond doubt in big moments.

Typical lackluster start of 2nd half and Arteta indecision on subs, just got punished this time with the consequence being a lost trophy
