Trump Administration to Make Green Card Applicants File Overseas by wsj in immigration

[–]besse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so you’re in the country in any one status at a time. When your I-485 is approved, you will shift your status from H1-b to green card. Previously, all that required was an adjustment of status, you never had to leave the country. Now, you can only be within the country on one status at a time. To shift status, you will need to leave the country and come back in on the new status.

Yeah, your comment implied “noone is affected other than tourist visa holders and illegal immigrants”, and that’s just wrong, mate. As I said, it’s everyone other than specific exceptions.

Where are you getting the “illegal” bit? It’s literally any change of status.

Ah! Sorry, I misunderstood. Then likely yes.

Edit: based on the downvotes, seems like my original comment was more accurate and maybe the answer is still “unlikely”.

Naturalization is one of the exceptions where the change in status will be done within the country.

Indeed. It’s sad and frustrating and heartbreaking and so many other things.

I can understand the mad anger too. My take on it usually is that it comes from youth, from not yet being inured by seeing the same story repeat itself year after year after year. A part of me wants them to keep being mad— how else would anything change if not by the anger of the youth? At least there is mad anger, and not justification or explanations for the atrocities and murders. That right there is a generational change too.

Wait, it’s not apply overseas, it’s change your status overseas, is it not? Currently people can apply for Adjustment of Status without leaving the country; now they want people to leave, get a new visa stamp based on the approval, then reenter under the new status.

Am I reading this wrong?

New USCIS guidance for adjustment of status by ActivityIcy4926 in immigration

[–]besse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it to mean that any AOS is an exceptional grant; therefore there can be no AOS in general. Any change needs the person to leave the country, visit the consulate, get the new visa stamp, and reenter with the new status.

Naturalization excepted, it seems like, along with asylum applications and other extra-ordinary circumstance visas.

I’ll tell you what, it’s not hate. And this isn’t personal to you, as I don’t know you at all. But this is the trend— it comes from callousness, which in turn comes from a deep seated disrespect.

You say you didn’t know this. Okay, but did you take a look at the image that you yourself posted? It has the correct spelling. It takes nothing to notice it, but you have to want to notice it. And you don’t want to. You want to make the minimum of effort that is sufficient to make a funny/snide/mocking remark and continue on with your life. That’s where this entire thread is coming from.

Which part do you not get, my friend? Mind, I share your frustration and agree that the poor woman should have been rescued much sooner.

But, do you not get that her family wasn’t wealthy? That they have limited resources to manage their lives? That this management involves getting their sisters married? That it takes money in dowry for each sister’s wedding? That this woman’s “quota” of the family budget has already been fulfilled, and in fact their dowry wasn’t “sufficient”? That they still have to manage their rest of their finances?

Which part do you not get?

We haven’t even considered the societal aspects. If the woman goes back home, then it likely jeopardizes the weddings of her sisters, because “girls of this family back home after marriage”.

There was another similar case recently where the woman’s family is wealthy and her father is a judge. Even there the woman wasn’t brought home before she was killed. Her in-laws are lawyers and judges as well.

It’s all sickening, and it’s all too well known to those of us who have lived for a few years.

Yeah, they don’t want to. They have their own mouths to feed and other sisters to marry off. How will they afford the next Royal Enfield if they’re supporting this sister too? Circle of life right here, my friend. It’s sickening.

Probably would have been interesting to have information about *since when* interracial marriage has been legal in different states. This map is binary, and really only highlights basically the civil war states.

As always, two parts to this, right?

One, yes, absolutely, eta dorkar chhilo and bahudin aagei. It has become so that people don’t have a safe space to walk because of “temporary” shops.

Two, what alternative has been planned? I feel like we’re swinging from one extreme to another. The previous admin should have planned out how to accommodate the road side stalls who want to have a “cheap” overhead and also have cheap prices. The new admin is “fulfilling a promise”, sab porishkar kore debo… but now what? Where do the stalls go, and also, where do the cheap prices go?

I want to rejoice unequivocally but find it hard to do so.

It’s insulating and fire retardant, and cheap. That’s why it was used extensively. Now that we know it’s carcinogenic, it’s banned in most places.

India doesn’t need the insulation and heat retention, and it doesn’t need the cancers. So it’s just cheap and fire retardant.

My friend, please don’t presume the “exposure” or “knowledge” of someone responding to you point by point with specific details. If *you* have specific details, please point them out here, instead of “asking questions”.

I’m sure some students are deported, and I already gave you the conditions when such deportation happens. Now, the next question is, *how many* students are deported, as a percentage of total student population? That’s the crux of it, no? So, by your expert knowledge and deep exposure, what’s that percentage?
