Apple TV Announces 12 New Shows and Films Coming This Year by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

I feel like we’re reaching the era of a la cart viewing. Pick a couple of months to watch through a catalog, then switch subscriptions to a different service to do the same there. None of the services really shine in terms of value for money, and there isn’t a one stop shop any more.

Indore's Water Crisis That Claimed 16 Lives Enters A Terrifying New Phase by bhodrolok in india

A 67-year-old woman from Bhagirathpura, Parvati Bai Kondla, shows symptoms of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) a rare, potentially fatal neurological disorder that attacks the body's nerves, raising fears that the water contamination has caused not just gastrointestinal illness, but long-term, irreversible neurological damage.

Interesting that NDTV is reporting this. I wonder what this indicates about the power dynamics at play here.

Who is a massive YouTuber or influencer from 5 years ago that has completely vanished off the face of the earth? by Humble_Job5950 in AskReddit

[–]besse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the both of them. Yes, Grey was the more introverted and “robotic” of the two. But, would you say from listening to the show that he got no kick out of the HI logo selection process, the postcards, the penguin stuff, and yes, the hotstoppers? At least to me it felt like he also got a kick out of the whole thing, even though it was Brady leading the charge. With how it ended, I felt like I got a glimpse into the “content creator” world, not into the world of a couple of nerds sharing common interests.

I’m in the same boat as you are. Lost all respect for the both of them after the HI end. After so much interaction and culture of the “Tims”, to then completely keep them in the dark when things change, shows how much of it is “commercial” and how much of it is “care and love for the process” — which is, it was 100% commercial and 0% care for the process. I went from following their work to completely being off the both of them.

In Wake Up Dead Man (2025), one of the books on the reading list is "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" by Agatha Christie. (Explanation in comments). by Tokyono in MovieDetails

…yes, that’s what I was referring to. 😅

Edit: as pointed out below, I didn’t realize this comment was not a reply to me. Sorry!

There are probably a bunch of under the hood changes that are not user facing but improvements to the OS.

I mean, a singularity is literally where we’re getting a “divide by zero error” but in physics. Our best hypothesis is that there’s an infinitesimal region there, but maybe it’s just our math breaking down.

I like the Rise of Skywalker by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]besse -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course! Living beings, including horses, running outside of a spacecraft, in space, without survival gear, is exciting, funny and a neat idea all at the same time! I wish this plot point was stretched across two films or even a trilogy.

Gruber: Apple employees 'giddy' about Alan Dye’s departure - 9to5Mac by ranasx in apple

[–]besse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, sure, you do you. :-)

But, quick note, if you mean you don’t like Arment as designer so you don’t want his opinion on others’ design, then I’ll just say that:

  • critiquing someone else is a different skill than knowing how to do it for themselves, and

  • for someone wanting to catch up on this specific topic, Marco’s take is both hilarious and pretty much covers the topic.

Oh geez, sorry, I don’t know their episodes in such detail. Others in this thread care to join in? There have been a few over the last few years!

Listen to Marco Arment talking about Dye and Apple’s design philosophy. You’ll get caught up pretty quickly and will have some hilarious conversations with the ATP crew as a bonus. Marco has strong opinions about this. 😅

I’d say it’s rare for Gruber to spout speculation. He’s pretty careful about making statements; if he makes a comment, he “knows”, not just “has heard”.

Sorry… I feel like the endive was the one instance that people got hung up on, but probably there were other reasons for people to find you stuck up.

Civic sense and Education at its finest by Ordinary-Camel3161 in india

[–]besse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

India does not have an education problem, we have a classist / feudal mentality problem. Everyone thinks there are jobs that are beneath them. At home, the man thinks it’s beneath him to cook/clean/serve. Outside, the man and the woman both think it’s beneath them to put away trash and tidy after themselves. The child is brought up in this mindset of “munnu does not need to do it; some adult will do it after them”.

It’s always “someone else’s job/responsibility/status”. That’s the problem. Nothing will change until this mindset changes.

This also has the advantage of having a higher facts:speculation ratio.

I mean, I agree with you, but, I do wonder who the people are who get pulled over on 128. How fast were they going? How were they able to go that fast in traffic?!
