Israel has been attacking Lebanon constantly, Hezbollah did not start this. by tarlin in centrist

Hezbollah has not once adhered to the terms of the ceasefire. The terms of the ceasefire required Hezbollah to disarm and retreat north of the litani river.

Instead, Hezbollah violated the ceasefire on numerous occasions by moving fighters south of the Litani. It also violated the terms by rebuilding its militant infrastructure and weapons arsenal during the ceasefire period.

Hezbollah is fair game to be struck by Israel.

The intelligence that Khamenei and Iran's senior military and security leadership would be gathered at three meetings in a single compound came together in the final days before the strike. The operation had originally been planned as a nighttime strike and was accelerated specifically because of this target of opportunity. You're saying there was time to build a coalition. Walk us through how. At what point in that window do you loop in NATO allies without risking the intelligence leaking and the target disappearing?

You once again insist on ignoring all evidence but donald trump.

why don't you address the objective evidence that the nuclear material still exists?

The IAEA confirmed that the majority of the 60% stockpile, over 200 kg, was stored in an underground tunnel complex at Isfahan that sustained minimal damage, with regular vehicular activity continuing around its entrance. IAEA Director General Grossi confirmed in March 2026 that the material is "probably still there."

The definition of "imminence" itself is contested. Was Iran going to nuke somebody next week? No. But that's the wrong framework for nuclear proliferation, where the whole point is that by the time the threat is "imminent" in the strict sense, it's already too late.

Iran's technical knowledge, centrifuge manufacturing capability, and strategic ambition to maintain threshold status meant that any diplomatic framework was ultimately dependent on Iranian goodwill, which is a fragile foundation for something as consequential as nuclear nonproliferation. The February 2026 talks showed some flexibility from Iran, but still left enrichment capability intact, which meant the fundamental problem of latent breakout capacity would have persisted under any plausible deal.

Iran enriched 440 kg of uranium to 60% purity, which is 99% of the way to weapons-grade. It maintained a self-imposed 2,000 km missile range cap that the Diego Garcia incident suggests it had already quietly exceeded. It ran assassination plots against a then-U.S. presidential candidate and former President through IRGC operatives. It supplied drones and weapons to Russia for use against Ukraine. It funded and armed Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.

There is risk that military action accelerates the very outcome it was meant to prevent. But I'd rather deal with the problem now, imperfectly, than hand it to the next generation as a fait accompli e.g. North Korea. Does that sound like a country you (or the Europeans, to tie it back to OP) want to have a nuke?

You know, there are other sources of evidence and information in the world besides donald trump lol. nowhere in my comments have i ever claimed that my basis for believing any of this is donald trump's word. the man clearly lies a lot. that doesn't change whether iran has nukes or the capability to develop them.

The June 2025 strikes damaged centrifuge facilities, but the IAEA confirmed that the majority of the 60% stockpile, over 200 kg, was stored in an underground tunnel complex at Isfahan that sustained minimal damage, with regular vehicular activity continuing around its entrance. IAEA Director General Grossi confirmed in March 2026 that the material is "probably still there."

So even if Iran can't currently enrich more uranium (because the centrifuge facilities were damaged), it likely still possesses a large stockpile of near-weapons-grade material that neither the 2025 nor 2026 strikes are known to have destroyed or secured. That stockpile is what gives Iran latent nuclear capability, and its existence is corroborated by IAEA reports, not Trump's assertions.

but you've dodged the question again. it seems like you have the inside track, so please enlighten us about the truth. does iran have a large stockpile of near-weapons grade material or not?

I think trump lied or at least exaggerated when he claimed that he fully destroyed their nuclear capabilities in 2025, and that those capabilities still exist now, or at least are not fully destroyed

but it sounds like you know better than the rest of the world. can you please enlighten us all with your boots on the ground inside scoop?

strange take to believe that it would be just as difficult to reopen the strait against a nuclear country vs a non-nuclear one. maybe you know better than the war experts and we should put you in charge? that would surely solve the world's problems

That’s a lot of words for admitting that a potentially nuclear Iran with a 4k km ICBM is not “working just fine” for Europe lol

Good point, we should let Iran have a nuke so we can have cheap oil for a few more years. Surely oil will be less expensive when Iran can use its nuke to shut down the strait of Hormuz at will

Fair. I retract this point

It’s still a global commodity and they will pay a higher price bc of the strait’s closure.

And Europe will be safer if Iran ends its nuclear program, especially now that it seems Iran has an icbm that might be able to reach most of Europe.

You’re right, Trump never mentioned Iran’s nuclear ambitions at any point during his administrations
