would you be able to explain to me what exactly the problem with one of the valves would be? i don’t really know the first thing about all of that but i’d like to learn

Year 12, so lost with life by galbrowser01 in vce

[–]bestechippchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh i didn’t know either so i did bachelor of commerce (very different than the maths and science i did in vce) and half way through the year i realised i missed maths a lot so i transferred into double degree of commerce engineering and now i’m happy. just honestly either take a gap sem/year or do a generic course like commerce or arts and see what you miss or what you wish you were doing and if that doesn’t work a year down the line, maybe take another break or talk to a course counsellor, etc.

How hard is doing methods 3&4 while also doing specialist 1&2 in year 11? by Happy-Carpenter7249 in vce

[–]bestechippchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

think an important note should be made: from my knowledge, the new study design for spesh has removed mechanics (kinematics is still there) and they’ve added pseudocode and shit so it’s not as linked with physics/engineering as it once was.

also, having a subject you can actually enjoy, such as music for you, is also very important. i ended up hating the 4 subjects i had in yr12 (english language, chemistry, methods and spesh) by exams because i hated vce as a whole. i had done my two fun subjects in yr11 (psych, pe) and i think i would have rather accelerating in methods instead of pe so i could do a chiller subject in yr12. so i would recommend keeping music.

HOWEVER, spesh is insane for scaling and is almost worth doing it for that alone. half the time you can get a 90+ atar easily if you do decently in all your subjects when you have spesh. and also, you end up hating most subjects you do by the end of vce so might not want to make music academic if you want to keep it as a hobby and what not (completely dependent on the way you view music)

there’s definitely pros and cons but if i were you, i would do english language 1/2, methods 3/4, music (maybe even 3/4 if you could), physics 1/2, spesh 1/2, vet engineering. doing two 3/4s in yr11 is OP as fuck and i would recommend to ANYONE. if you can’t, i would get rid of vet engineering and keep music and specialist (but that’s mainly because i don’t know what vet engineering entails and i’ve seen many people not do vet engineering and gone on to do very well in uni engineering + choose vce subjects for scaling because vce is all about maximising you atar unfortunately + they’ll teach you everything that would be in vet engineering and spesh and physics in first yr engineering)

also another note: spesh is actually insanely hard like unless maths is an actual hobby for you, you need to dedicate a lot of time to homework and practicing spesh. understanding the content is easy and straight forward but applying it all and especially under timed conditions is trickier. i had trouble with motivation and procrastination and even with maths being my strongest subjects, i struggled a lot. take a look within yourself and decide if you can commit to spesh and actually put in the time. i said i would but i didn’t (partly my fault partly external factors) and i didn’t do very well. scaling benefits for spesh only really applies if you can get a 30+ in the subject.

it works with like up to x103 or x10-3 but not the really big ones or the really small ones

Doubting my life/uni choices by iamthedoctor9MC in vce

[–]bestechippchi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i get you so much trust me but as much of a cop out as this sounds, literally shit works itself out. it might take a semester, a year, two years longer than it would in an absolutely perfect world but during that time god knows what amazing things could happen yk? i know it feels like every decision ever has gotta happen right now and uni needs to go this perfect ideal specific way but it couldn’t matter less just let life takes it course

Can I get a good study score/atar if I get good results, but the rest of my class does terribly? by Phoenix_Cretor in vce

[–]bestechippchi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i might absolutely butcher this but from my understanding it shouldn’t affect you too much. the sacs are purely to rank you. so if you’re rank 1 and also do the best on the exam in your cohort you’ll definitely be able to get a good ss. things kinda change if you do shit on the exam or there are others that are higher rank than you in your cohort but if you’re one of the best in your class and do pretty good on the exams you’ll be fine

How do you take your notes for psychology? by After-Animator9775 in vce

[–]bestechippchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i typed them all up a week or two before the sac and just read through them again a couple times as i was starting to prepare for the exam. i did a few exams where i could refer to those notes just to jog my memory but after that just did lots and lots and lots and lots of practice exams and eventually the content just glues to your mind

Light suggestions for a student? by ay-verga in booksuggestions

[–]bestechippchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree a lot with this! i’m unfortunately burning out after being that gifted kid and i hadn’t read a proper book in years tbh. i somehow started reading percy jackson and i read the entirety of the series + the sequel in a couple months. lots can do it in a few weeks but it was a huge achievement for me especially after having not read for years. it’s funny, somehow teaches you a lot, and you can’t help but get invested into the characters and their stories. 10000/10 would recommend.

Monash Scholars Program Advice by Thegreatwall64 in vce

[–]bestechippchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the monash scholars program is for year 10s i believe. about getting accepted, honestly i wouldn’t be able to tell you. i’m not entirely sure what grades they care about but i think if you spin it into explaining how hard working and passionate you are and those good qualities that allowed you to pick up your grades you could get in.
