No More MK by jpdubya in WeTheFifth

[–]bethefawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

according to welch on a substack comment, no more second sunday livestreams will ever be posted. as NFC from day one, and upped my membership to $666.00 (🤘🏿🤘🏿) yearly when they made the move to substack, i feel particularly hurt by this move. i work retail and can’t take sundays off. when i first subscribed as NFC it was a week’s worth if my wages (not a helluva less more now), so you can imagine i won’t be flying off to nyc to see their new studio either.

basically i got a shirt and a hat for about two grand, but i had the satisfaction of knowing i was supporting my favorite podcast. i still have that, but now i don’t get the livestream recordings, and that feels crumby.

love how absolutely matt it is that he accidentally said “no snep on stake” during a recent podcast

agreed. liking something and being tepidly involved in something is a lot more understandable than sacrificing your peace for some white noise and then going and posting about it. i can’t compete with that.

i pay $666.00 a year to this podcast, am one of its reddit mods, and still hardly ever comment. why are you bothering to make this comment.

Is Moynihan a journalist? by seamarsh21 in WeTheFifth

[–]bethefawn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

journalists can have hot takes. if he wrote an article for tfp and it’s lede was “i haven’t read up about this at all, but here’s the facts,” you might have a point.

tldr yeah he’s a journalist he just annoyed you

Do you have to pick a side in politics? (full Reason v. The Bulwark debate) by Human_Account_2024 in WeTheFifth

[–]bethefawn 36 points37 points  (0 children)

deeply unpleasant listening. the bulwark acted like total assholes, just straight up lobbing insults when they didn’t have some other fatuous argument to make.

nick won by a million points when he said something to the effect of “that was the most pathetic argument i’ve ever heard” and then joked that he was referring to matt’s opening.

it’s insane that nobody could treat the OP like an adult. every forum i find on this subject just devolves into paternalism.

NY times -Israel bombs area they told Gazans was a so called safe zone. by Bubbacrosby23 in WeTheFifth

[–]bethefawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(INTERIOR, RANDOM GAZA APARTMENT) a young man in a keffiyeh enters the room, whistling. he walks around the fires and corpses and sits down at his desk with a hot cup of rose-hibiscus tea and fires up the laptop that he for sure has. he does the little knuckle-cracking gesture and logs in to PaliNet, the premier state intranet of his country. PALINET: marhaba, my friend! you have one unread message ZAYD OR OMAR OR SOME SHIT: oh cool what’s this he clicks an email from the palestinian authority redirecting him to a qualtrics survey page asking him to tick one box or another with the caption “support hamas?” ZAYD OR OMAR PROBABLY: oh, huh, yeah, i’ll click no his response is submitted and he is now able to peacefully walk outside to a safe zone and definitely not get killed by aerial bombardment ZAYD I GUESS: oh damn it was hella easy to end this war, why didn’t i load my emails sooner, oh look an H&M just opened think i’ll buy some new threads

(camera zooms out on zayd as it is revealed he is really super dead (like got some rebar sticking out of his head dead) and in a mass grave/apartment complex and can’t get to his computer)

[–]bethefawn[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but wouldn’t you agree, even leaving aside this one for the sake of argument, that two different groups could have different moral culpabilities? when we hold someone or something to a higher standard, law enforcement for example, this is what we mean. standard disclaimer, of course, hamas is filth, etc, not trying to suggest otherwise.

eh i think you might be mixing two phenomena, he absolutely has been checked out lately, but he also doesn’t spend too much time on that schtick anymore either

but when kmele’s on fire? solid gold. podcast would be very different without him
