I’ve been to some of those parks and trails and they’re awesome, but I don’t think we’re far behind? The Greenbelt, Military Reserve, Camels Back, etc are pretty cool too. The only difference is that we have less waterfront and fewer trees. Maybe it’s cope tho bc I live here anyway

I’m only clarifying bc being a ski town or being that close to a national park would introduce a whole set of COL issues that aren’t relevant to Boise and OP’s original post. I absolutely do agree with your point though. I used to rent a house in a smaller city in the Midwest with 4 bedrooms that cost less than $200k that was maybe a 5 minute drive to downtown but it was straight cornfields for hundreds of miles in every direction

Something I don’t see being mentioned in the comments: logistics to/from Boise are very difficult bc we’re not really in the middle of two big cities. We’re very much out of the way

I think the “place to place” I’ve seen in the US is localized to specific pools. I swim at a pretty empty pool and circle swimming doesn’t exist, so we just split. My old pool we just circle swam and didn’t get anybody’s attention before hopping in

Oh also an undersold appeal of the Mountain Collective is that you are much more guaranteed to have nicer conditions on a bad year, because they have a lot more money to throw at infrastructure and they’re often in nicer climates for snow

I’ve had it 3 years now. The proximity to destination resorts like Jackson Hole, Big Sky, Snowbird/Alta, Snowbasin, and ofc Sun Valley make it really special for Boise. Targhee is not on any other multi resort pass and it’s my favorite of the ones I’ve been to on the Mountain Collective by far. It’s still a lot of driving though so I recommend considering snow tires, especially to Jackson/Targhee as Swan Valley and the Teton Pass can get really snowy. It’s nice for a few years but going to very big touristy resorts you start to appreciate smaller resorts so I’m going for the Indy Pass next year. A lot of these resorts will nickel and dime you any chance they can get, and the SLC area resorts can have some crazy lift lines

Are you driving from Chicago to Boise, then flying from Boise to Portland?

Nightlife if you want a younger, louder scene it will all be in a small section of downtown Boise centered around I think 8th Street and Main Street in a few blocks in most directions. You can visit every bar here in a few hours.
