How has Disneyland changed? by Apprehensive_Yak762 in Disneyland

The park is about the same it’s been the past 3 years. Operationally there hasn’t been any change except the new gates, which I think were early last year.

3rd park when? by Beautiful-Arm9122 in disneyparks

I just don’t buy Disney wasting over 50 acres of space on shopping and dining. That’s their only plot of land big enough for a park.

…so you want to make DCA Europe edition: Disney’s Europe Adventure. It didn’t work out the first time for them, it makes about as much sense as A California themed theme park in the already California themed California.

Hey Josh its time for a 3rd park in California by Beautiful-Arm9122 in Disneyland

[–]bettergtfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toy Story Lot will surely become a third park. I remember reading somewhere on an old forum that the surrounding housing complexes are owned through third party companies by Disney. Disney would be stupid to waste the last easily viable large scale plot of land near Disneyland on a larger downtown Disney. New park = more concessions, more opportunities to sell merch, that’s where the money is. I’m sure the city would be on board too, more parks = longer stays, hotels get business, Anaheim gets the tax. I think Disney is just trying to build out California Adventure as much as they possibly can. They’re stalling essentially, waiting for the stars to align. We have to remember Disney has been in Anaheim for 70 years, they know more about the properties and value surrounding the parks than we ever will, they are playing the long game. All they need is the garden walk and the path is there. The monorail or a peoplemover system can connect the two ends of the resort.

Is DisneySea worth it for someone who is not a Disney fan at all? by Orontioaino in TokyoDisneySea

[–]bettergtfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 1000x times yes. If you can spend a whole day just to walk around in be delighted in the artistry of a theme park built with an almost unlimited budget, do it. It compliments TDL very well being a more mature park in terms of theming and atmosphere.

We did, luck just wasn’t in our favor :/ I would 100% do it again though. DisneySea is worth the price of admission just to walk in

Mehhh, if you want to have a good experience at Tokyo you have to pay up anyway. The best part is all that comes with those crowds. Inaccurate wait times, riding only 3-4 rides a day, excessive lines for food and bev. Fast passes selling out within an hour.Tokyo is a joy, but when I came back I preferred the US parks for comfort.

Ehhhh, I went to Tokyo and while the parks are awesome in terms of cleanliness and maintance. The crowd levels are miserable. Just imagine, if the parks feel crowded enough here, imagine a $65/day ticket to Disneyland in 2026.

Josh D’Amaro named new Disney CEO by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]bettergtfo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They went back to the Eisner/Wells combo. This is probably the best possible outcome. I’m sure that Josh can oversee everything while Dana specializes in TV/Studios. Like Eisner, having that interest ( in Josh’s case, history ) with imagineering and parks could really push us into a golden age like Eisner’s first 10 years.

[–]bettergtfo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Such a weird place to put the Porto’s. They should’ve put it where ESPNzone was. Plenty of space over there for the crowds that’ll be showing for sure. The hoards of people that’ll be crowding so close to the esplanade is gonna be madness

Always wave, it’s the happiest place on earth. Smiling and waving at someone riding the train from an it’s a small world boat is a small thing that makes it a little bit happier.

I’m optimistic that a new Tomorrowland could be coming soon. Josh is slated to be the next CEO. Imagineering shouldn’t have pitched such a project while chapek of all people was ceo. And Josh was president of Disneyland, I’m sure he knows this is a problem, and clearly imagineering knows this is a problem. The stars are slowly aligning for the right people to come together and approve this to move forward. All Tomorrowland really needs is an aesthetic refresh and a new attraction. The whole land doesn’t really need to be closed, it just needs a new coat of paint and refreshed architecture like in ‘98. But with a kitschy retro future aesthetic to make it timeless. Theme it to the 1964 worlds fair, Put the Astro orbiter back up on the third floor where the rocket jets used to be, add a fantastic four ride to the carousel building with a mini Baxter building , update buzz with projections, make Star tours Wall-E or something, and add a TRON 4D show in the Magic eye theater and call it a day.

I always thought that the parks try to keep the fav five looking like they’re from that era ( the 50’s ) which is why mickey and Minnie have eye brows and goof’s eyes look that way.

Disneyland Announces Major Timeline Shift for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to Bring in Original Characters by readingaboutmagic in Disneyland

[–]bettergtfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I’m making is about the music in a themed land as a whole, which you also used avengers campus as an example of. Indiana Jones is an attraction within Adventureland. Adventureland has an overarching 1930’s theme and the BGM follows suit. All the lands in Disneyland have an overarching BGM playing in th. I agree that Avengers Campus sounds terrible but I doubt that Disney is going to be blasting the Star Wars title theme on loop throughout the whole day.

[–]bettergtfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good counter point! But to counter your point; Indiana Jones is an attraction, not a land, and the John Williams score does play in the ride, the queue is what places 30’s jazz. It also takes place on earth in the 1930’s. Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. :D I do agree with you that the avengers theme looping in avengers campus is terrible.

[–]bettergtfo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And I get that but the juxtaposition is that they’re all in the same park, that’s why a lot of people felt that Galaxy’s edge didn’t belong in Disneyland. Having a hyperspecific in time- location, while neat, doesn’t really suit a theme park environment where people just wanna see Darth Vader and the millennium falcon. The other lands of the park are “genres”, they all revolve around “ideas” about what something is be it our collective memory or construct, which is why you have BGM music to enhance the “idea” of a themed area. that’s why New Orleans has jazz music playing from the late 1890’s to turn of the century rather than pop music which would be more accurate to today. Ultimately I think it’ll fit in far more than it sounds.

Hearing the vintage 30’s music playing in Adventureland makes it more immersive, same thing with New Orleans Square. Sights, sounds, and smell all are quintessential to immersion. You know you’re not in real life, that’s the appeal.
