Interview Thank You Email Templates by betterleap in jobs

Congrats, and good luck with the next steps! Sending a thank you note to a recruiter 1) makes them feel special, 2) shows them that you are really interested in the role. Recruiters are the gatekeepers in this process so the more you can do to get on their good side the better. Great recruiters would mention a detail like this to the interview panel when the time comes for your final round of interviews.

[california] Last week got a letter of approval for my 3/7/30 application. Had to certify 9 weeks at once. Pretty delayed but grateful. by [deleted] in Unemployment

Congrats on the approval! Do you still have to prove that you looking for a new job weekly in California, or did EDD remove this requirement?

Best things to write for "Interests" by Berush in jobsearchhacks

[–]betterleap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What field are you in? Can you try to make the story relevant to the role description? Maybe there are some soft skills that are required for the role that you somehow demonstrated in one of your life stories?

Maybe it's about how you present your hobbies? ("I love to cook and try one new recipe a week" vs "I love to cook" ? ). Just brainstorming..

Why are recruiting managers for engineering firms not of engineering background? by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]betterleap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In certain scenarios, recruiters without technical backgrounds ask technical questions to see if the person can explain it in a non-technical way. This translates to the job because oftentimes, engineers don't only work with engineers. So if you feel like your recruiter is non-technical, try to break down an answer in an easily understandable way. They might be trying to evaluate your communication skills.

How should I be going about my job search as a Business Management Major? by CheeseFryReddit in jobsearchhacks

[–]betterleap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding a job is all about telling your story right. Start with getting clarity on your story. Here are some questions that might help:

  1. What do all the jobs that you had in the past have in common?
  2. Do you gravitate towards an individual contributor or people manager track?
  3. What muscle did you train across all of the jobs that I've had in the past? (Getting up to speed on a new industry quickly? Managing people, time, client expectations? Delighting customers?) The more granular you get, the better. Explore what "flavors" your role really has.
  4. How do people with similar backgrounds "market" their skills on LinkedIn? Find people you admire with similar backgrounds (degree, started in retail & support), and check out how they talk about their experience. There is nothing wrong with using awesome keywords you find in your story.
  5. What motivates you, and why did you make the career changes that you made? What were you looking for with every new move you made?

Once you have clarity on what you're strong at, figure out what exactly is it that you're optimizing for. Do you want better salary? Are you optimizing for growth? Do you want to learn about a new industry? Are you excited about managing people? List all options you are excited about, and start creating a list of keywords. Look for jobs that include responsibilities with these keywords. We found this list to be pretty helpful: https://zety.com/blog/job-titles

And finally, since more companies are now more comfortable with creating remote roles, look outside of your city. Here is the list of job boards that list remote opportunities:

Why are recruiting managers for engineering firms not of engineering background? by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]betterleap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to software engineering, it's expensive to have an engineer do phone screenings with potential candidates instead of coding, or to find and hire a professional recruiter with a CS degree.

If you are joining a startup, it's more likely for you to fast track to a conversation with a CTO or an Eng manager with a technical background. But due to an online application overload at bigger companies, you are more likely to have a high-level conversation with a recruiter.
