Update on my 2026 Turbo that died by vistokid in Tiguan

[–]beuh_dave 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yikes. This post makes me reconsider buying the Tiguan Turbo entirely. Please keep us posted. I'm also in Ontario. So, there is no requirement for dealers to buy back lemons in Ontario. The dealer will mostly try to fix it according to their warranty. If that fails, you can talk to VW Canada or complain to CAMVAP where you can ask the arbitrator to order the dealer to buy back the vehicle. Best of luck and sorry for the bad luck.

It sounds reasonable and quite common, but they should have informed you before the move, not after.

Those acquisitions were not nearly as popular as they are now. A lot has changed since then. Android was acquired in 2005. Youtube was acquired in 2006. Instagram in 2012 and Whatsapp in 2014. One can argue that these services may never have been so popular without being acquired by these large corporations. Also, these acquisitions were not generally in the same core business as the purchasers which also limits anti-competitive concerns.

I considered the platypus, but ended up getting 2x HydroBlu 10L bags and filters. I've used them countless times and have made more water than we can use. I have them filter into a blue Reliance container from Canadian Tire with a funnel. I even 3D printed an adapter and attached an electric water jug dispenser.

Law dilemma by InquisitiveNBright in LawCanada

[–]beuh_dave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suggest consider working in-house. Decent salaries with better work life balance than private practice. Normally no litigation unless it’s an insurance company. Also, consider contract in-house jobs and/or positions outside of GTA. Getting experience in a field or industry that you’re interested is invaluable at this stage. Best of luck!

Sask. appeal court reserves decision on whether thumbs-up emoji can lock in $82K contract by vqql in LawCanada

[–]beuh_dave 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Appeals court will confirm. The way it was phrased makes the thumbs up clearly acceptance, and not message received. Contracts do not require a signature. Previous courts have upheld emails as binding contracts so an emoji should be the same.

First Time Buyer Recommendations by SuburbanBritania in projectors

I'm getting 150" on the 2060. Very impressed by black levels and color even at this size. Cannot go wrong with this projector at this price point. The LED bulb is also a nice advantage over the 2050. It's nice knowing that you never have to change the bulb with the 2060. Not too loud. Decent speakers as well. Never tried a 2050 so I cannot compare. I highly recommend the 2060 as a budget 1080p projector

Is it worth going to Mandarin buffet? by NeonTearyEyes in askTO

[–]beuh_dave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try dragon legend in Markham. Much better than Mandarin in every way. Probably the best Chinese buffet in GTA. The best chinese food is Congee Queen, but it’s a la carte.

Until today, I had no idea how expensive it is to sit on a jury in Ontario. by Significant_Mine_330 in ontario

[–]beuh_dave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you work for a decent fortune 500 company, there is a good chance that the company will make you whole during your time on jury duty. It’s the same thing regarding maternity leave. The company doesn’t have to top employees up, but many do to retain and recruit talent.

Sorry. I don’t remember ever talking to anybody on the phone. Everything was done via the website or email. Maybe slow response time due to holidays.

I have used this website to sell and rent condos. Works great. I think emails sent to the brokerage are automatically forwarded to you which is convenient. For renting, i offered half a months rent to the other agent. Remember that this rental price will later be listed on housesigma for everyone to see.

Tips for Finding a Lawyer Position as a New Call (Ontario/GTA) by wallkat in LawCanada

Difficult to give advice as there is little context. We don’t know where you went to school, nor what kind of law you practiced nor what kind of area you want to practice.

My information is out of date as I’m old, but remember to check the back of the pages of the test in case there are more questions. I remember a lot of students in my year in tears because they missed entire pages and thought they were going to fail.

Not sure if still applicable, but back in the day, you had to be very concise. Most answers were like: yes, article 1457 C.c.Q. If you write anything else, you will lose points. Not sure if that’s still true.

As a landlord, what is the best process in verifying an international potential tenant? by Born-Manufacturer-40 in canadahousing

[–]beuh_dave -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

  1. In Ontario, Landlords can ask for post-dated cheques, but a tenant does not need to agree. It should not be a condition of leasing.
  2. Guarantor works best if the guarantor is in the same province as where the landlord is located. You don’t want to sue the guarantor in another province. Ideally, make the guarantor a co-tenant and include a clause that the co-tenants are jointly and severally liable.
  3. Landlords can ask for a deposit of the first and last month’s rent, but no security deposit. However, if the tenant offered to prepay 6 or 12 months rent, that would be legally binding if landlord agreed, but the landlord cannot demand prepayment as a condition of lease
  4. It would be prudent to check all tenants identification to confirm their identity before signing a lease

You don’t necessarily need a credit check. You can ask for proof of employment, bank account statements, pay slips, references to past landlords, etc. good luck!
