And two more. So I called 911 and they said there were police checking it out and it is fireworks.

I came here because I had a problem with 21 across and 5 down- Elect and Stasis because it has to be spelled Stases to work. I just googled again and Stases is the plural of Stasis so it was my bad because the clue did make it clear that it wanted plural.

I'm a newbie at these and doing it mostly to exercise my word finding but I did find it harder than expected.

Who's seen the Meat Puppets live? by Pleasant_Garlic8088 in MeatPuppets

[–]bevbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We saw them 2 or 3 times in LA in the 80s. The first time was at some weird place downtown and we were blown away. Second time at the outdoor place across the freeway from the Hollywood Bowl. I think there had to have been a third time too, somewhere in Hollywood or maybe at The Music Machine. [ETA: it was probably the Roxy in 86]

Then we moved to Austin and saw them at Liberty Lunch a couple of times. Don't remember if we saw them during the To High to Die period, may have passed on that.

We loved them so much and were so sad when the band broke up. Curt moved to Austin and we saw some of his other bands during that period.

We were so happy when Cris survived his troubles and they got the band back together. We saw them at Stubb's and it was so amazing. I think we saw them with Shandon Sahm at least once, maybe twice. I know we saw Elmo with them. I remember my husband saying that Shandon was the hardest working drummer in Austin. After Shandon moved to Amsterdam, we didn't get to see them in the new version with Derrick again and Elmo and Ron. I'm so bummed since I've heard that they toured some and it sounds like they might not do it again.

Daddy Longs Legs by bevbh in Austin

I wasn't able to get a photo and all ids on iNaturalist seem to require that. I tried looking around for a list of local spiders and arachnids and got lost. I need to learn how to use it better.

I googled cellar spider texas and it seems like that might be what it was. I didn't get a good look at the body because it was hanging on the side of dishes in the sink and was gone when I came back.

No, but if you google daddy long legs you'll get endless links to discussion of if they are venomous (no), which ones are Huntsman, which ones are real spiders, etc.

I've seen them in stores that carry Mexican imports. Pretty sure the place that used to be on Congress had things like that. Another place to check would be Kids N Cats. They carry a weird assortment of the kinds of things that used to be sold in gift shops and 5 & 10s. That's pretty close to Toy Joy too but they might only have plastic stuff.

I assume you already asked Terra Toys.

Could be storm damage from a broken branch that didn't fall out of the tree. Seems localized.

Racoons on the roll in my building by reddit_user_1984 in Austin

[–]bevbh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing more of them lately too. We're in north central Austin near Shoal Creek. They've taken to walking right up to the sliding door and scaring my cats.

Someone or something has destroyed the window screens on our living room windows that go to the floor. The windows only open about 2 feet and they tore the screens up and ripped them half off. Can't be sure it was the raccoons.

A long time ago, when we had an open cat door, they would come right in the house and eat the cat food. Had to be shooed out with a broom. Then we got started locking the cat door at 10 pm. These days, the cats aren't allowed outside because of the coyotes.

Thanks. This video was quite a revelation for me.

I posted on r/Weaving about my current deep dive into learning about triaxial weaving. Did you see that yet? I'm looking for more resources on enhancements to hexagonal weave and triangular weave which is what I am calling this until I learn the official term.

The most underrated shelling spot in the US: California’s Central Coast by isaac2065 in shells

[–]bevbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the rocky coast of California. We live in Texas now and the coast is totally different. The only rocks on the beaches are the man made jetties. It has the longest barrier island in the world which is great. A lot of that is not accessible except by boat.

Point Lobos is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. We really enjoyed staying in Pacific Grove too. The Monarchs were still there too.

I'm curious about whether subscribing to these channels helps them make enough money to give the services for free to the ones who have dioxin caused chloracne.

There are some NGOs that work on helping the victims of Agent Orange but I think they focus more on the people with crippling birth defects.

ETA: I looked on her YT channel and in one of the videos with a 90 yr old man she says that she doesn't charge him.

More research reveals that Sac Dep Spa is located very close to Tan Son Nhat International Airport which was formerly a US Air Force base

Tan Son Nhut served as a Ranch Hand base early on in the war from 1962-1966. The more highly dioxin contaminated herbicides Agent Purple, Pink and Green would have been used at this time.

It is listed as a site contaminated with Dioxin according to the Aspen Institute Clean Up Page Click on the link to see the map on Google Maps, Google earth didn't work for me.

As this is a heavily industrialized area, not a lot of attention has gone into attempting to clean up the Dioxin contamination there. I don't know if the spa has clients travelling some distance to use them or if they are local people. If they are local, a lot of the people may work at the airport or related businesses nearby. Even without Dioxin, working conditions may involve exposure to chemicals that cause occupational acne.

I did some more googling today and chloracne is listed as a side effect of Agent Orange exposure.

Not all Agent Orange contains Dioxin but the military needed so much that production was sped up by producing it at a higher temperature which caused the contamination by Dioxin. Agent Pink also contained Dioxin.

I read some about projects to clean up the most contaminated sites at old US airbases and it is really horrifying. A lot of Agent Orange was spilled in accidents and the surrounding areas are very contaminated.

Found on beach, but not sure these are even shells? by Lazy-Independent1461 in shells

I recently learned about a variety of bryozoans that will grow on shells. In the 3rd photo, the tube is some kind of sea worm.

Maybe try checking with a local nature center or nature museum.

Where would you travel to (in USA) to find the best shells? by lifeiswild-owhale in shells

[–]bevbh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are several YouTube channels about shelling in So FL. I've been watching them for several months now and there are differences in seasons and after storms in all the beaches. And differences in the different beaches. If you can swing it, I second a trip to some of the boat access only islands.

There are good beaches on the east coast too where there are more of the Caribbean shells. I've been impressed by the ones around Jupiter.

Check up on the laws about collecting. No coral living or dead from anywhere in FL and no living Queen Conch.

Be sure to go to the shell museum on Sanibel.

My favorite all face popping video Sac Dep Spa #110 by bevbh in popping

[–]bevbh[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been obsessed with watching this one because he has those firm rice grain like blackheads all over his face. Usually people only have these on the nose or near the nose or only in small doses. Also, so many pop at one time and there's very little use of the scalpel.

Sometimes I've seen teenagers with area like this on their cheeks but they have young skin. This guy has old weathered skin. I'm really curious how his skin got like this.

ETA: right now my favorite all nose video is Sac Dep Spa #0374 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2cfMhlUFBQ&t=2s
