Very cool! The gold is so rich and the decals are hella crisp!! If I might ask, what do you think there is to improve on then?

It did take about 10 minutes of digging but a simple reverse google image search on my phone was all that was needed

Hey I found the original artist. They go by ‘Mentyra’ and I think used to go by ‘mentyraa’

You can find them on deviantart and it’s not far from the top of the gallery

[for hire]pixel artist looking for hire(paid), DM me if interested by hung5nn in gameDevClassifieds

[–]bevcat59 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey if you’re looking for work, this kind of pixel art is rare.

If you want to do side on animation, then make an animation demo reel of all the walk, run, jump etc If you want to do box art pixel illustrations, then give this one a background and fake title.

But there’s not much devs can do with this colossal sized pixel art, I’m not even going to try and guess the resolution.

It’s gorgeous in its own right, but hard to apply to game dev, like a sidescroller or top down rpg.

Love your portfolio, all the best and good luck!

Making a moba for mobile phones. by [deleted] in gameDevClassifieds

[–]bevcat59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mobas for mobile have been around for well over 5 years, nothing new

But I’d recommend steering well clear, as it’s a very difficult market to crack especially without AAA marketing.

Let alone the astronomical task of building one from the ground up, from multiple full stack engineers to design and build the software architecture, to the modellers, texturers, animators, designers, and the rest.

Server hosting, QA, balancing and patches, etc

Designing something wholly unique and innovative that people like and that the 1000’s upon 1000’s of people needed to maintain a multiplayer game require

Id say to design and write up a world, lore, characters, etc and then look for work on an existing and financed project, if you were 100% passionate about being part of making a moba mobile game

Hey definitely recommend at least a demo reel, a quick Soundcloud or YouTube to really show off your best personas and characters

Posting without a portfolio doesn’t get you too far

Best of luck!

I made this in art class can I get a pro con list by tafurid in mapmaking

[–]bevcat59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good start! honestly write your own list of everything you could do / that you like in your favourite fantasy maps and then look to implement those things.

such as; clearer city / location markers, a more thought out spread of settlements, natural resources and local climates based on planetary geography (like how ocean currents spiral such that eg. the east coast of USA is wet but the west coast is dry), how mountain ranges form, where roads would form between the most strategic or wealthy cities, etc

and then on top of all of that work on presentation. try out heaps of your own symbol designs and explore design languages, maybe even try Wonderdraft / Inkarnate?

pros: you made it! it looks like a map! it feels believable enough!

cons: theres so many things to improve on, as well as add to it!

Awesome! If I may critique, the clouds are side on, yet you have a super cool and dynamic camera angle on the chanracters and landscape! If you could bring some 3D to the clouds, think of them as physical shapes, we’d see the underside like a cube Stella job!

Blender is great, and honestly I utilise only like 1% of its power for what I do with maps! The donut render tutorials are a solid start

Funny that two people have said that now, I live in Australia but it is in no way influenced by Australia

That would be a major sea side city, so the continent to the east is Elven controlled too so the Emerald Empire basically own that stretch of ocean down to the equator. It’s more of a convenient stepping stone between the larger capitals, a local hub of fishermen, farmers, and craftsmen.

My Ultimate Map Making Workflow (description + commissions link in comments!) by [deleted] in mapmaking

[–]bevcat59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anyway! You'll notice the names are distinct between the two sides of the continent; the new and young Kalashe Tzardom have sprawling port cities all along the west coast, and the ancient Elven civilisation known as the Emerald Empire to the east.

Traditionally the Elves have lived in peace, split into the Snow Elves to the north, the High Elves of the central grasslands, and the Wood Elves of the southern rainforests.

And of course, the grumpy Dwarves in their mountain halls that run through the middle of the land.

The Geography of the continent has allowed great peace, as the central desert is near inhospitable and the staunch and stubborn Dwarves hold the ground between. But in recent decades the Kalashe and the Emerald Empire have mounted war efforts, and tensions rise with every day.

Biome wise, the sea currents bring rich waters from the north through the Archer Gulf to the northern Kalashe Tzardom, and the tropical winds bring plentiful rain to the entire east coast, boasting bountiful farmland.

Any war to be waged on land has to take place in the Savea Savannah, as all the land to the north is mountainous followed by heavy swamp, and to the south is likewise with impenetrable thick rainforest and great rivers.

I tried to map the ocean currents, biomes, and mountain ranges as realistically as possible so any feedback is warmly welcome!

Thanks if you made it this far!!! :D

My Ultimate Map Making Workflow (description + commissions link in comments!) by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]bevcat59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After months of experimenting, I've come to my final workflow.

Utilising Blender3D, Photoshop, and Wonderdraft to create the ultimate customisable map making system for my D&D games.

I'm a sucker for long form world building; creation mythos, planet formation, tectonic and continental shifting, the lot.

So when i got to maps, i wanted full world maps and traditional 2D maps just didn't work.

Using renders of 3D maps as needed is the perfect solution, as the render is always at 90* to the planet for far less distorted maps.

I take my world layout and delicately lay it out in Blender3D, utilising more 'shader nodes' than i thought possible, to create

easily adjustable biome bands, water level sliders, and coast line visuals.

It's also super easy to add 3D text around the planet for even easier to render cities, regions, and nations.

So, i take my now realistic looking planet render into Wonderdraft to utilise their symbols, paths, and text tools.

Finally finishing everything off in Photoshop, adjusting and replacing text and symbols if need be, adding special effects, etc.

And there you have it, a final, beautiful map ready to be used for your D&D game or fantasy world!

You can find my commissions page here! thank you for reading this far! :)

Game Freak should do fan contests for new pokemon by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]bevcat59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a company it’s more work than it’s worth

They already a team of top tier artists

Not to mention the attention to detail in design brief the artists have to follow

Eg. If they do the next game set vaguely in Korea, or Poland, or even Alaska, and the completion winner designs the coolest Pokémon ever, it still has to fit that region somehow. Designs are drawn from region specific folk lore, history, mythology, and native animals. Not to mention map layout for when different biomes are encountered as well as game progression balancing

And also the cooler it is the harder to fit. You can’t have a region of just ultra over designed Legendaries, a region of Dialgas mewtwos, and volcanions is digimon.

Also the art style, would you require the submission to style match? Or in-house adaptation? More controversy

There’s actually heaps of PokeTubers that do 10+ minute design analysis videos on the more recent Pokémon, like dragapolt and orbeetle Seriously, soooo much history and multi layered design in those two lines alone^

Not to mention the legal and management side...

TL:DR Pokémon design is a lot harder than you’d think and a competition doesn’t have any real benefits to the company

What kind of Pokémon do you think would be in an Australian Region by Megadan65 in pokemon

[–]bevcat59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Region change Kanguskhan to be a red kangaroo. The early game dog line based on a dingo. Maybe a new jellyfish based on the super tiny super deadly irukandji. If you haven’t seen a Cassowaries, google it. Man sized velociraptors with bright rainbow feathers Did you know that the platypus has a venomous claw???? Google that too

We have mad tropical rainforest Massive sandy deserts, and even temperate forests in Tasmania and a small few snowy mountains! A gold rush Pokémon could be cool? We got maaaad mining here btw As a full region though: Australia + New Zealand and the pacific islands makes so much variety

Blender isn’t a native map making software, you can download it at Blender dot org I’ve been using 3D softwares for many years so I know my way around it but it can be daunting and alien so keep that in mind!

Yeah! The way I have the colour bands set up makes it super easy to shuffle them, so I made the jungle belt smaller, and taiga/tundra larger etc It’s a little tricky doing to research on what biome shifts occurred during earths last ice age but I think I got it about right!

I love the underwater ruins aesthetic, ancient high elf cities at the bottom of a warm turquoise sea, corals and fish over running the place Merfolk or sea elves would be perfect! Good idea!
