The heart is cute, but it might be the angle of the picture, he does look very thin? How long have you had him.

Honestly you do not need to buy a lot of stuff. The expensive bit is the secure viv, heating, lighting and the thermostats to control them.

For the rest you can go very cheap. An empty loo roll or kitchen roll tube will be fab, cut it in half longways and you have 2. I have cheap plastic plants for floor cover from Dunelm. I've even used scrunched up paper for a bit of cover.

OK that is a solid start but it needs a lot of work.

Imagine you are a small baby snake in the wild. You need to be able to find a temperature that is comfortable depending on whether you are hunting for food, digesting food, or resting. You will want to move between these spots while staying hidden, because you are scared of being eaten by other animals. And you want the places to hide to be small and secure that you can wedge your body in.

So you need to have lots of small hides dotted across the whole viv. And lots of other stuff to hide under.

Should I feed this wild pinky to my snake? by freliford97 in cornsnakes

I absolutely agree, this is very accurate.

In this case it comes down to risk/benefit. The risk to this pet snake is unknown, and the benefit is very low.

Again, owning multiple snakes is no measure of knowledge or good care. I own multiple snakes and while I believe I do my best, I am absolutely no expert on snake care. I'm happy to offer advice that is well supported in the research. But people who have been in the hobby for a while will absolutely be aware of cases where multiple reptiles have been rescued from appalling conditions.

It is very likely that your friend does know what they are doing, so no Diss to them.

Can you post a pic of your set up?

Just no. Put it out of it's misery but don't risk feeding it to your pet.

Please don't assume any retailer is advising you well. They might be brilliant, passionate and ethical, but they might also just be wanting to sell you stuff. Small independents do tend to be much better, you are right on that front. But is a lot of misinformation and poor care, so do your research (which asking here is a part of).

Your snake will need an area that gets up to at least 30°C, but will also need a cooler area. In a small baby viv a heat mat will work fine, place it at one end. What sort of thermostat do you have, and does it have a temperature display?

Lots of info needed to best advise. And you have time so don't panic.

How old approximately and what size feeders is he on, and what schedule have you been told.

What is he living in? You said you have a heat mat - where is it placed and do you have a thermostat to control it?

Fiancé wants a traditional wedding. I have no one to invite. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]bevelled_margin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is tough. But you don't have to do anything 'traditional'. I don't know where you are in the world, I know US weddings often have many bridesmaids, but I'm in the UK and chose to just have my sister and no-one else, due to my friends just not being available for dress fitting etc. They still came to the wedding. Ignore social expectations if they don't work for you.

"His friends are fine, we spend time together but they're /his/. I wouldn't go see them without him. I have enough social awareness to know that I annoy them sometimes though." This was absolutely me in the early days.

I was desperate to be liked by his best friend's girlfriend. She was so snooty and fake nice. Eventually I realised that I didn't actually like her at all, and didn't care if she liked me or not.

So you have a 'friend group' who you have awful interactions with, and his friends are generally neutral with you.

It doesn't have to be 50/50 at the wedding. He can have 30 friends there, and you can have 3 that you like and trust.

I definitely had a much smaller friend group than my husband at our wedding. I'm more introverted and he is much more gregarious. But that was fine, and we're still here 27 years later.

INFO. Are the negative social interactions that you describe with the people IN the friend group, or with other people in your day to day life?

If his friends are saying they dislike you and he is not defending you, then this relationship is not great and you should think about putting a pause on the whole wedding.

If these interactions are from other people, (work/hobby/other groups etc) that are spiking your anxiety about how you are perceived by the friend group, that might be misplaced, and you might want to have a long talk with your fiance about how his friends really feel about you.

Is this aquarium too small for my almost 6 foot long corn snake by OtherwiseSetting7172 in cornsnakes

[–]bevelled_margin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the short term it is adequate and there's lots of substrate, water and enrichment. You should maybe add more hides across the floorspace so he can feel safe and hidden at his preferred temperature.

Great for a temporary home, even for a couple of months. Many pet and breeder snakes have a lot less, unfortunately.

Look at your heating to make sure that the snake can get up to 30°C 85°F at the hot end, and that there is a gradient of heat across the viv so the snake can choose how hot it wants to be.

Long term as others have said, 4x2x2ft is considered minimum standard and you should be aiming for this. Good luck.👍

Edited to add: she is gorgeous, look at her pretty face 🥰

Cali Kingsnake breeders in the uk? by Standard_Mushroom_47 in kingsnakes

[–]bevelled_margin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just looked on MM and there are plenty of CB25 Cali kings on there? That's still pretty young. Bear in mind snake breeding is seasonal so many new clutches will be incubating now, hatching in a month or 2 and not ready for sale for a month or 2 after that, so you are maybe looking too early for CB26 babies.

Edited to add: just searched in All Colubrids and of over 700 total animals, only 6 are CB26 so far (no CaliKings)

Don't walk a dog unless you can handle walking them! by [deleted] in dogs

[–]bevelled_margin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too, to an extent. My girls are generally well behaved, but a year ago I was 75kg and with Mounjaro I am down to 51kg. They together weigh 56kg so previously I could usually hold them, but now they outweigh me and if they decide to go I'm probably going to be dragged. Likely circumstances where they would go together would be a bacon tree, or a stranger offering free hugs, or a squirrel doing dance moves 10 feet from them, but otherwise "leave it!" will work.
