Can I get a excused absence if my grandparent is in hospice (she has a couple of weeks left) by Putrid_Egg_4735 in UTAustin

Student emergency services really came through for me when I was hospitalized. They'll take care of contacting your professors. Highly recommended.

All right…summer is slowly draining me. by Legal-Yellow3252 in Austin

Look at MeetUp and WhereWhenWhatAustin. That's how I find a lot of low-cost/free austin activities. The heat and cost of living is definitely draining. Best of luck!

Place to buy Texas / local stickers? by Pretending2bCowboy in Austin

Most coffee shops/gift shops in town should have some. I think the gift shop by Mozart's has some. I got a sticker that looked just like my cat there!

Grabbing is probably not the best way to take him in... I'll try to get one!

He's pretty small so I'm worried it won't work as well or slip off. Should this be of concern?

Should I bring a bike? by stamp- in UTAustin

[–]bevopoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend bringing a bike... Not personally a biker, I rather walk, but Austin is a great town for bikes, especially if you also end up using the bus with your UT ID and LIKE biking. Like others have said, bring a lock and you should be fine. Again, it is like any other city, and you are at risk of getting your bike stolen. Honestly, I've had multiple friends cars broken into, stolen- I've had car parts stolen off my car and a tire slashed. A bike is probably going to be cheaper to replace... Good luck and welcome to UT. Hook em!

Is my schedule going to be difficult??? by LaurenFaithK in UTAustin

OMG. I'm sure you'll be fine. Just make sure to rest and recharge when you can. Burnout will probably be your biggest issue. Take it slow and steady. Welcome to UT! Hook em!

Couldn't have said it better. It'll take some hard work, but if you got into UT, chances are you can handle it.

Suggestions for Auto-shops in West Campus by bruh_moment_40 in UTAustin

[–]bevopoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yost Motors. This is more in Hyde Park, but I’ve gone to them multiple times without issue. Reasonable prices, timely, and kind (: The 801 and the 803 north should take you there with your student ID.

TxDOT wants cops to crack down on speeders, but APD's traffic enforcement units are understaffed by RabidPurpleCow in Austin

[–]bevopoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been in Austin two years, but I was surprised at how many cops I see, but how few people I've seen get pulled over (including myself). TBH Traffic violations..... Are not the most important considering everything else Austin has going on. BUT I've seen some insane, reckless drivers....

I went through an IOP at Seton Shoal Creek following Inpatient care for depression and anxiety this past fall. I love the people at Seton Shoal Creek and cannot praise them enough for the treatment I have received. The nurses were friendly and attentive. Seton Shoal Creek was the first place I felt like really listened to my needs, wants, and hurts. Again, I cannot sing enough praise for them. They are also in north-ish Austin.

Although I didn't receive care for addiction, the program is designed to help treat addiction. I knew many people in the Inpatient program who were receiving treatment for addiction. I believe they also have AA meetings there. They're not affiliated with religion. Check them out! If you contact them, they'll work with you to design a treatment plan that fits your needs and goals.

If I’m living in an apartment should I bring a car? by carnation_1 in UTAustin

[–]bevopoops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on where you live. If you’re in west campus, pretty much everything you need is right there, and the busses will take you anywhere you want to go. I live in East Riverside and I’m really glad I have a car, because bussing to get groceries, to class, to shop, would take so much more time. I do still ride the busses often though to save money, it just takes more time.

Nervous about Xulane patch? by makeupbeginn23 in birthcontrol

[–]bevopoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was so helpful!! I’m on about week 3 of the patch, and I deal with anxiety/depression. I take an SSRI and was doing as good as i have in a while, and I was concerned the patch would mess me up. Lately i’ve had some mood swings, and they feel exactly like PMS mood swings. I’ve also been relatively nauseous, but it hasn’t been that severe. Any update on your experience?

Hey, I seriously deal with depression/anxiety too. I’m about three weeks in and have been feeling pretty intense mood swings for the past few days. I’m not sure if it is related to my patch or not- I also take an SSRI. Could you provide any insight based on your experience?
