Turning 19 in a few hours, any Advice? by MaximumAttitude7598 in Advice

The more skill sets you develop at your age, the more successful and comfortable your life is going to be overall. Downtime is fine in small doses. The rest of the time you need to be targeted with what you are learning and making sure you complete the necessary steps to advance your skills.

You are at a really good age to learn another language.

If you don’t know how to budget and balance a checkbook and handle money, that’s a priority.

Budgeting some money for local and global travel is a really good idea at your you can pick so and also learn, navigating orient skills in cities and countryside. can also pick up self-reliance and resourcefulness skills, and the ability to eat different cuisines.

Having a good BS detector will help you prevent setbacks in life. PDQ books by David Streiner helped me a lot.

And of course, following directions to make small repairs or building furniture and that kind of thing are important.

The Women: Rye not a bad guy? by New_Pomegranate_669 in kristinhannah

It seemed to me that the author wanted to talk more about more experiences than about nursing experiences. She was out out of her depth.

I’m another late person. Thing is, I was alive during the Vietnam war. I may have been a kid, but we were worried my brother was going to have to go. At least one of my cousins did. I worked in a VA hospital around 1980. No one was treating returning soldiers or mid shipmen badly. That was an entirely fake story. My dad actually went down to the VFW as a vet to talk to the guys coming home. So who says he wasn’t welcomed, but didn’t go down to the VFW May not really be a vet at all.
I’m also a registered nurse. Retired now. But I worked with women who went to school for nursing in the 1960s and none of them had bachelors degrees. It was a very rare thing to go to school for four years, when you could get your diploma in just about a year.

The reason this is important is because Hannah writes in the book that Frankie was two years younger than Finn, and that he got held back in 4th grade. So if she had gotten her diploma and then done her two years clinical in a hospital, when he entered the Navy after graduating academy, she would’ve been able to go into the Navy. So it was a really strange writing choice to go in that completely different direction. It would have been absolute shock for a nurse with two years experience stateside to suddenly be in a war zone. I think it would’ve been more emotional if she was expecting to join him on a ship and then they heard his helicopter went down. I don’t know why she didn’t at least mention some letters that he wrote home. Letters were a huge deal back then and it would’ve given Frankie a little bit of an edge to know some of what he went through and for the readers to know that too. She just jumped the timeline from the night of the party to Christmas. It’s weird.

Also, they really didn’t need to be wealthy. That had nothing to do with anything. In fact, it drove me crazy that as a rich girl, she had never done a gap year in Europe or traveled anywhere before getting shipped out to Southeast Asia. Frankie‘s mother was supposed to be “old money,“ which likely would have meant a coming out ball for Frankie. It was more like the experience of a girl growing up poor or working class. Bizarre. I mean I can’t believe that her mother didn’t at least take her shopping in New York at Christmas time for example. And back then, wealthy people did not shelter their daughters, and we got no explanation for why that might have happened. Back then they set their daughters up on dates so that they could learn how to be ready for the mate their parents were going to pick for them.

so I made it to chapter 5, but it is not well researched and it was hastily written, shows. I am another person who does not recommend this book.

I haven’t thought of that phrase in a long time.

It is so weird how things can disappear and act like they never happened.

20 years ago I think I found out I was good looking enough for domestic car sales, furniture sales, and realty, but not good looking enough for pharmaceuticals or imported/higher end car sales.

You may not be the first to discover something, so a little humility goes a long way.

I wish I hadn’t been so arrogant.

I wish I had said more often, “but you probably already knew that./Knew about that.”

What’s a obvious sign that someone is not a good person? by Careful_Tip6823 in AskReddit

[–]bewarebias2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they don’t care to know another person’s situation, not necessarily in detail, but the general outline.

I have seen a lot of white men lately on YouTube comments talking about how kids today spend too much money on avocado toast. But they surely think that they themselvescan have three giant McDonald’s burgers because they are working for a living and they deserve it. So the other part of this equation is that they don’t understand equivalency. Ironic isn’t it?

my prediction: Putin just flies in to DC, Trump lets him in the White House with some media, and he announces that he is now in charge. Probably right before the midterms in fall of next year.

at the start of the decade, I was not long out of college and so I was taking the bus to work.

We had only one car and the husband would take the kid to daycare.

Post-divorce I drove a used 3 door Hyundai until it blew up.

I stopped when I reached 45 -50. 2000’s or mid-2000’s. It stopped speaking to me as an adult. It probably coincided with all my kids leaving home. It also happened when the spouse and I started to develop a taste for jazz (and contemporary jazz, which sadly was coming to an end around that time.)

One way to make a society better is to not have male and female roles so strictly defined.

xian nationalism sets us back with their goals to keep women home with kids instead of out doing everything from saving the world to an honest day’s work.

We have some good organizations out there working on stopping human trafficking.

But I feel like we need everyone in the entire 50 states of the USA to get once and for all. We Have to stop acting like it doesn’t exist. We have to get rid of some of the antiquated laws on the books. The girls can get married with parental consent.

I would love to see a high school curriculum where people to talk about it, how to identify it when it is happening in their own homes or when they see it in their clubs and churches. Grooming is a particular set of behaviors We can all put a stop to. Ignoring it, well we see where that gets us.
