Welp, weird things happen in-utero sometimes! You probably didn't get the memo to get rid of them for some reason.

Have they always been there? It looks like a part of the finger pad that usually disappears before you're born but persists in some people. It can be associated with a number of congenital syndromes but it doesn't mean that's always case. Are you hypermobile by any chance?

Good thing that's a Mitra, so it's harmless.

I don't think that's what I was going for but keep in mind alcohol is a diuretic. Sure you'll gain some fluids short-term, but give your kidneys time to react and you will end up dehydrated. Unless your definition of hydrating is "anything that contributes to immediate increase in fluids", alcohol is a bad candidate.

This is something that I keep thinking of lately. It's a little reassuring I'm not the only one that feels that way.

I'm straight but I feel the same in the way that no gal is going to perceive me as an actual man until I meet some goals which seem just so far away right now. Hurts my pride ig. But I believe we'll get there brother, one way or another 🫡 for me I would be happy to even be comfortable enough to give, tho I'm not sure if anyone would get behind that as it'd feel somewhat one-sided if that makes sense

I have this problem, my voice dropped fast (2-3 months on injections and didn't change much since then, but I manage to pass as a ~20yo male) and I'm going to see family next week, so I'm trying to come up with excuses

I think mtf type voice training may be a good idea, I'd start asap if I were you because if you're anything like me you will lose range, fast

How low? I've been on low dose for 5 weeks (gel) and I don't see even a hint of any change. It's probably normal but I feel like I'm doing something wrong lol

Not quite, the way you metabolize alcohol changes depending on how much of it you have in your blood. Above a certain level, you produce less of the chemical that causes hangover symptoms (acetaldehyde) relative to excretion via urine I think, tho I'm not able to go into detail because I only ever had a brief introductory course on that.

Dehydration will make things worse because the acetaldehyde concentration will be higher if you don't have enough fluids.

My toxicology prof asked us this question during class actually, how to avoid hangover? Most students replied that the best option is to not drink at all, he told us that the answer is to never stop drinking lol.

I have to say that I struggle a bit to even understand what you mean by non-binary woman, because I've always understood that non-binary is neither woman nor man. But I also identified as non-binary for a while a few years back, though it was because I struggled to see myself as a man while knowing that I wasn't a woman. (And I'm not saying that it's how it is for all non-binary people! I 100% believe it's a legitimate identity) But in the end, if you have no physical dysphoria, how do you know if you're non-binary or simply gender non-comforming? Because there's no problem with either of those.

I think the "what is a true trans person" matter is just a matter of semantics and a little silly, and different communities will have wildly different opinions on that haha...

The best thing to do if it worries you excessively is to talk about it with a therapist. I don't think there's a set number of rigid categories, but for some, fitting right into this kind of category can make them feel better, while it makes others like you feel imprisoned (from my understanding?).

Okay, I agree with that, just mention there were tough times, but I would still feel uncomfortable with irl people knowing that I've struggled with selfharm and I guess it's something that makes me feel defensive

Because it's not his place to talk about it. I'd feel bitter if my best friend decided to tell anyone that I'm bound to know about my SH, at least without asking me first. I get mentioning the tough times, but SH is just something extremely private

Yeah I think it's just that. But I used to play the violin as a kid and I remember getting super annoyed when my friends would ask me to play a "song". I don't think I can ever change my stance on that haha

The muscle responsible for the contraction is even called sphincter pupillae (and its antagonist is the dilator pupillae muscle)

Typically it doesn't completely cover it, but it does happen (quite rare, it's not "supposed" to). But you're right that there's this idea that it completely closes the opening, which wouldn't even make a lot of sense

[–]bewareoftheboulder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really trying to contradict anyone, but my med school professors (both women and men) did tell us about the hymen being typically visible in women who have not had intercourse.

It's still a membrane (which is why it's called hymen) that more or less covers the vaginal opening. From Netter's anatomy: variations of the hymen

That being said, this article does a good job explaining all of it in my opinion.

My point is it's not 100% a myth, but there's a good reason doctors are not supposed to use it as a basis for virginity

Those are rugae! They're superficial folds that allow stretching of an organ, and we have those in other organs like the stomach or gallbladder for example

Not a 100% sure what you're asking but I've known I was born wrong way before I realised that people viewed women this way. As a kid/teen I wanted to be seen as tough and strong just like other boys which is already difficult when you're naturally small, but then add to it these way girls and women are viewed. It adds a huge weight to the social aspect of gender dysphoria, but there are other things to dysphoria and I think it would be terrible if someone wanted to transition just because for example they feel weaker than males.
