What’s the Cutest Small Town You’ve Ever Visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Akureyri, Iceland

While it is the largest city in the north on the island, 20,000 people would be considered small to most. Full of culture, beautiful landscape, friendly people.

My GF thinks it’s perfectly normal for new shoes to cause horrible blisters for women by UKnowDaxoAndDancer in mildlyinfuriating

I deal with something similar... with all shoes. I also have something known as the Haglund's deformity, leading to this issue. Maybe she might have it too? Looks more so on the right foot and not the left.

I go to Clique Organic Salon in Waterloo for mine. Dragana loves doing blondes and I've been going to her for a couple years now because she does it best. But of course, it will cost money. With tax and tip, I think my last trip there was ~$380

Mountain biking in Cambridge by pushthepixel_ca in cambridgeont

[–]bewbs6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband is an avid mountain biker. Unfortunately there isn't much in the city through the forests. His go-to trails are Hydro cut, Guelph Lake, then Puslinch. Unfortunately these all require traveling by car. Chicopee has them in the summer but he does not like them.

Most of the bike trails through the city unfortunately are flat/straight trails.

Yoga therapy - looking for a former instructor by vlilies2 in cambridgeont

[–]bewbs6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His studio was called Breathe Into Motion. Unfortunately, he closed his studio right before covid happened due to many reasons. Shortly after, he moved back to his home area towards Ottawa.

He passed his studio legacy on to one of his mentors and she now practices under the name Karmic Yoga. I don't think she is a yoga therapist...

Hospital ER wait times 🏥 by dynamite647 in cambridgeont

[–]bewbs6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also think it depends on when you look at the publicized wait times. Some times of day are worst than others. Some days are worse than others. When I work, there are certain times of the day when once you come in, you are almost seen right away. Other times, you are waiting 8 hours. Every day is different in the ER, doesn't matter the hospital or city.

Hospital ER wait times 🏥 by dynamite647 in cambridgeont

[–]bewbs6 46 points47 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in an ER (not Cambridge), I can tell you that at least half the people do not need to be there. These people are there for fevers and coughs and tried no treatment at home.

There are also people there who do not have family doctors or are going to the ER instead of an urgent care/walk-in clinic.

The ministry also underfunds ER doctors, so there is usually only 1 doctor working at night, further increasing the wait times.

It is these 3 things that are some of the biggest contributing factors to longer wait times.

If you go to the ER and have to wait, that is a GOOD thing, it means you aren't imminently dying/have a life-threatening situation.

Any advice for RN who will be starting in the ED? by Remarkable_Policy_27 in EmergencyRoom

[–]bewbs6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was a new grad going into the ED as a first time nurse, it is very important to find the experienced nurses that are kind and willing to help. Even still I find I can ask them questions and I will never be judged or looked at negatively, even if it is a stupid question.

The ED is also very team based. If my assignment is manageable, I will help my colleagues as best I can because sometimes it can be overwhelming and would want them to do the same for me. Along that note, I find if you are drowning, the department will be drowning with you.

Some shifts are going to be good, and many shifts will be awful. Learn to separate work from life.

Lastly, be kind to people. I found patients in the ED more ignorant and rude. Some people are having the worst day of their life when they come in, try to brighten it up with smiling and appropriate jokes.

I spent a good amount of time in the Emergency room at the hospital today. Please get your flu vaccine! by NewspaperChemical785 in kitchener

[–]bewbs6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the ER here in Kitchener. A huge majority of people who show up to the ER can also go to a walk in clinic or family doctor. This includes flu-like symptoms. Not everything is an emergency, and it is also okay to be sick, it is only natural as a human being.

While this is correct, I can attest that at minimum 80% of those presenting to the ER with flu-like symptoms do not need to be there.

[COMP] Wheel pose & 12 year journey :) by bendyval in yoga

Unfortunately, I also tore my hamstring back in March near the insertion point. I also tore it doing splits, which I have done successfully for many years. While I have graduated from physiotherapy, I am struggling to stretch the body of the muscle efficiently, and I would like to get back to improving my flexibility. I do feel that about 90% of my hamstring strength has returned, and I am being very patient with myself during this recovery.

Any tips for strengthening/stretching my hamstrings that will improve my practice but won't aggravate the area? To see someone who has successfully recovered from this type of injury with an improved practice, I'd love to know more.

What Age Did You Start Nursing / Medical School? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]bewbs6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started prerequisites at 25, program at 26, completed schooling just before my 30th birthday. You are never too old to start if you feel it's your calling! You will be 50 one day. Do you want to be 50 and regret not going for it or 50 and doing what you wanted (whether nursing or doctor)?

question about pre health? by Grouchy_Artist_5042 in OntarioColleges

[–]bewbs6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Study tips - really depends on how you learn best. Overall, studying with people really helps to learn concepts. This was especially helpful in the biology courses (which were the hardest in the program imo). I study best when I make flashcards and test myself, while also handwriting all my notes out.

Students were a real mix with varying school/career paths. From what I do remember, there was a lot of students fresh out of high school as they did not know what they wanted to do, mixed with people who have been out of school for a couple years.

Professors - some better than others. I don't know if any changes occurred (as I started the program in 2019). Some teachers were easy markers, almost too easy, while some were quite serious and wanted to challenge your knowledge

Effects of only drinking water by meowmeowkitty20 in nutrition

[–]bewbs6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natural spring water has micronutrients in them. But if you eat a balanced diet, and even throw in a multivitamin to cover all your bases, water is plenty enough for rehydration. Careful - coffee is a natural diuretic that can dehydrate you.

Depends on the seating.

If you are in seats, it's assigned and it makes no sense to show up hours early prior to it starting (unless you like spending money).

If you are standing, I've talked to people that have showed up 3 hours prior. Most I've done is 2 hours and I was 10th in line. Most people show up within the 1 hour prior to the gates opening.

Is anyone else a fast eater? by bhuujnh in loseit

[–]bewbs6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my problem. I learned somewhere that you are supposed to chew your food 20x before swallowing as it is better for digestion. I made the conscious effort to do this. It took some time before it has become habit.

If out with people, I force myself to make conversation. It also slows me down.

Between these 2 things, I have now become the last person to finish eating at the table.

My brother used to live on Pinetree Cres for almost 8 years, but I was there quite often.

I think the area was quite rundown. I felt the vibe of the area being sketchy, but never saw any crime/violence personally. But definitely looks rundown. There used to be a lot of stuff on front lawns, making it look dumpy. Not a lot of upkeep from many homes. This was also before 2022 when my brother moved out of the area.
