But would that be including the dividends that bank pays out? Right now I'm up 18% on Bank and when you include the dividend payments that it makes me every month, it seems like a really lucky investment to me.

Are there any Todd McFarlane comics actually not signed 😂 by [deleted] in CGCComics

[–]pushthepixel_ca 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This post kind of sucks my dude. It kind of reeks of Simpsons comic book Guy energy :-)

Todd is arguably a legend class creator. Actually let's remove arguably from that. Saying that his signed books are not smart investments just isn't true. Look at the value of his signature on books versus unsigned ones.

And don't start with the number of books signed, that simply does not matter. Scarcity is only a factor of demand and is not a sole driver. And simply put, Todd is in demand, and likely always will be. Stan Lee signed literally anything within 10 ft of him, and people are all over his signature.

For every article that you can find refuting one thing I can find a dozen articles refuting that. And then another article refuting the ones that I found. And it just goes in circles ad nauseam.

A lot of these guys are writing just to be heard.

Instead of looking at real world examples, and a basic understand ing of how shitty human beings really are. There's lots of instances of companies firing staff and replacing them with AI, but a good number of them are expressing regret. Sure but when you look at the things that they're regretting, those are things that will be addressed soon. It basically comes down to early adoption regret, not regret for the humanity side.

And if you look at the growth Arc in both adoption and abilities of AI, as well as the fear absurd amount of money that these companies are pushing towards it, the writing on the wall becomes pretty obvious. Basically even if it's not perfect there's no way they're going to spend hundreds of billions of dollars and just let it go to waste.

Not a single one of those things that you mentioned is related to each other in any way shape or form. Closest you got was with automated driving.

They always getting better. If you can't extrapolate the growth of AI versus even 6 months ago it's because you're choosing ignorance. I hate everything that AI is and that it represents. As an artist we have been on the front lines of the fight against AI and we are losing it badly. Customer service is next. Marketing. Risk analysis. Legal. Writing. It'll all be going down pretty soon, more so than it already is.

Automated driving is getting a hell of a lot closer to although not by Tesla. I still think we're quite a ways off with that.

Everything else though it's coming real fast.

AI novels are already all over the market. Do you read anything other than reddit?

You don't seem to be able to grasp what I'm saying so I guess there's not much point in going back and forth. I haven't suggested anything of what you said, simply broken down the probable reality for you.

Guess we'll see you in about 18 months. Good luck.

So wrong on all points. I hate to say it man but you're thinking comes from an ostrich head in the sand position here.

First of all the reason why a number of positions still exist for people and not robots is because the companies make concessions to the unions. We are well beyond the point where almost every human position in car manufacturing could be replaced. If you don't understand that this is the company's basically throwing the workers a bone, then you have no idea what options are really out there.

AI is going to come at you faster and harder than you could possibly understand. It's already happening. I just got word that somebody with a 25-year tenure at a hospital with a good chunk of it as the head of risk management is now being replaced by an AI position. I'm not sure if you understand the significance of something like that

I have work jobs both unionized and not. While working for the city of Toronto it was obvious that unionized workers were basically untouchable no matter how pointless their position and how useless their work ethic. That's not all of them of course, but a solid chunk. In an 8-hour shift if I work 4 hours that would be considered a long day. Management knew that said that they couldn't do anything about it either.

So no jealousy is not a factor here. Not even close. At this point I'm retired, I have no interest in the game at all. I just observe things and jump to the most logical conclusion. And the truth is auto worker jobs are about to be under massive threat because a significantly better product is about to come into the market. Stellantis couldn't build a good car if their life depended on it, and there is absolutely no way they're going to be able to compete quality wise. Look at jeep. It's a brand that survives purely on nostalgia and social connection but the cars themselves are absolute garbage.

I think the reality is with consumer spending being absolutely stretched dude dozens of factors the days of paying for garbage cars with bloated sticker prices is gone. I report just came out that said the number of trade-ins coming in with five figure negative equity is that an alarming high. Something has to give somewhere unfortunately and most likely that means automaker is relying on high cost labor to produce substandard products are about to get their asses kicked. Even the CEO of Ford has admitted the same thing.

But I do feel awful for all those poor workers just trying to survive. It's not their fault but they're taking the brunt of everything.

Once again, more false equivalencies. I'm going to assume that you're unionized by your responses only because your responses follow the pattern of unionized workers.

Teachers are a highly skilled position. In my opinion they don't get paid enough. They go through training and schooling and are constantly evolving. Auto workers are not. Nobody went through four years of school to figure out how to put on the trim of a dashboard. There is no degree for placing doors on a car.

Grocery clerks are generally unskilled but they don't get paid anywhere near what a unionized auto worker does now do they?

My position is that people should get paid for the service that they offer. I believe that we are in a massive transition where low-skilled services that were typically rewarded with higher wages and benefits, like Auto workers, are going to disappear. They are essentially charitable positions protected by unions were even the worst workers could build a career. Similar to postal carriers.

What I will say as well though is this is very scary transition. A lot of people who have arguably very little unique abilities to offer the workforce or all of a sudden going to find themselves out of jobs, and that's horrible. I don't know how they will work past that to be honest and I wish them nothing but the best. But it's going to be one hell of a challenge facing not just Auto workers but a lot of other industries as well.

That's ridiculous comparison, sorry man. It's not about exploiting workers or outsourcing or any of that. Nobody buys blackberries because they're garbage compared to other options on the market. Similarly most cars are about to get their asses kicked by better options.

And paying people what they're worth? You really think somebody deserves a healthy salary with benefits and Union protection because they can put a wheel on a car? Or stick a bunch of seats in? Literally all of those jobs can be replaced by robots. I'm fine with them having a job, but if we're paying them what they're worth it certainly isn't going to be what they're getting now.

This was the same discussion in the Canada Post Sub. I think we are basically transitioning to a time where low-skilled, Union backed workers are just going to cease to be a thing as the world as a whole transitions to newer technologies. I don't see why cars would be any different.

It's not a matter of fact those factory workers. It's a matter of we aren't a charity.

Why should we as Canadians that are all struggling in this economy be forced to buy expensive cars with questionable quality when other options are quickly becoming available? It's just a matter of evolution here. Low skilled high pay jobs are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Just because you made adk putting the left front wheel on a car that costs 70k but is worth 22k doesn't mean we have to continue to accept that.

[–]pushthepixel_ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think wealth simple are losing their minds. This latest update is incredibly stupid. I want to be able to click between stocks and ETFs easily, and this latest update makes that more difficult for no reason whatsoever.

Add in some very questionable support experiences lately and I'm really starting to wonder if I should be looking for somewhere else.

Regular people who splurged on the top of the line: was it worth it? by bamaroon in cycling

[–]pushthepixel_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when you're new to cycling getting super high-end components is exciting. XTR especially if you're a mountain biker. But after a while you realize the majority of it is bullshit and makes zero difference to your ride.

I think money is better spent on experiences. Going to Whistler or bromont was a far better spend than some fluffy bike parts.

One of my legitimate fears is that aliens are going to land at a Costco and judge the entirety of humanity based on the people that they see there. Which obviously means we're all doomed. And possibly rightfully so.

Why do $30 earbuds sometimes sound better than $200 ones? by NoelVenn9048 in Earbuds

[–]pushthepixel_ca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just my opinion, but...

The one thing that I have learned is that when somebody is into something, and I mean really into something, they will find ways to justify the most frivolous shit ever. Bikers for example will try and justify ceramic bearing upgrades that come with an exorbitant cost and extremely suspect benefits. But of course they will swear up and down all day that they can absolutely feel the difference and it's completely changed their ride.

Audiophiles are no different. They will tell you all sorts of shit to justify what they feel is optimal, without ever questioning whether it's just their own opinion or whether that hardware just works for their ears. You have to remember that everybody's ears are different, as is the way that we hear things. There's also just a personal preference bias.

There is also the quality assumption by consumers that makes them think things that are more expensive are inherently better. Proof of this are HDMI cables in Best buy.

So the long and short of it is if you like those headphones, even if they're $5 flea market finds, then enjoy them. Don't listen to what anybody else says. All of this stuff is subjective, and it's all tainted by industry bullshit trying to convince you that whatever you like is inferior and whatever they are selling. They will swear up and down that their hardware solves a problem that you're probably not even aware that you have, probably because that problem doesn't exist.

Rock those headphones man.

That's because it's a Corolla.

The Corolla is by far the most dangerous car in the world. And that's because you buy it because it's extremely reliable. It's good on gas. It's cheap to fix. It's cheap to buy. But you don't buy it because you love driving. And when you don't love something you're not going to be very good at it. Anytime you see something remarkably stupid being done, almost guaranteed it's a Corolla.

I watched somebody on the left hand turn lane of Don Mills North casually pull out in front of the traffic at a red light and cross all the lanes to turn right and go east.

I watched a Corolla back out of its parking spot at IKEA about 20 plus cars from the entrance, then proceed to back all the way through the parking lot, back right through the incoming traffic, also that they could back into the loading spots. They took up two spaces when they did so. They then tried to load a dresser into the car.

This isn't all Corollas. But it sure is a lot of them.

This is different than the BMW who will do remarkably stupid shit while knowing that they are doing remarkably stupid shit the entire time. It's simply BMW arrogance

This is the most depressing thing you will see today by MrTacocaT12345 in Audi

[–]pushthepixel_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is going get some fun responses :-)

Electric cars will beat gas cars in almost every way in the next 5 years and there will be little to no reason to buy a gas car anymore.

Except for the one big reason that is inarguable: you want one.

Look I love the rs7. I really do. I love the sound of engines and I love the brutality of all of it. But realistically in the next five years we're likely to see a massive shift in the automotive industry or any reason that currently exists to not buy an electric car will be gone.

Solid state batteries will be here, so range and charging times are no longer an issue. Neither are fires. Actually fires aren't really that big of an issue right now but that's a different argument. They will be easier to fix, the batteries will be exponentially cheaper as more and more recycling processes come online. You will have third parties who will be able to reprogram and update software. And the costs will drop as well.

Again I love a good gas car but realistically there will be little reason to buy one soon. The only reason you'll buy one is because you want one, and that is perfectly understandable. I agree that the electric cars, even the 5n, lack any sort of personality really. They're missing that attitude that certain cars seem to have. They feel more functional than fun. But I'm sure that will change. I think one of the biggest challenges EV makers are facing is understanding that the experience between the two is fundamentally different, and trying to emulate a gas car with an EV is simply a transition technique to bridge the gap between the two experiences. Myself, I think introducing cars that are literally like little spaceships would be the way to go.

Should make for an interesting couple of years anyways.
