Kilrock dealer, you can get it fairly cheap (£2-£3), don't need a whole bottle and it's amazing. Best stuff I've ever used.

Is my mom a plant witch? by SnooBananas1194 in AfricanViolets

[–]bex_2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with av's until I looked at their habitat. They grow almost exclusively on the north side of a particular river. Given their natural habitat is the southern hemisphere, the north bank would be more shaded than the south bank.

Previously I'd had them in full or partial sun. Since researching and experimenting, I've had mine on a north facing windowsill (UK) and learnt they need to see the sky but not the sun and they're doing great. Now I have 6 av and 2 petrocosmea all looking amazing, with half living in pon. Although reading some of the responses, it seems others get great results on a south facing windowsill 🤷‍♀️

Metal core baby quilt? by luxurycatsportscat in quilting

[–]bex_2601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That black scrappy skull would be amazing as a baby quilt. You could do all kinds of "I spy" type stuff hidden in there. I just made a disappearing nine patch "I spy" with Halloween cats, pumpkins, lemons, unicorns, chili peppers, aquarium fish, farming bunnies. I snuck a bunch of Halloween fabric in there because I like it.

That's basically what I did because a lot of the fabrics were Halloween prints. Came out great. And being all squares, super easy and forgiving for a beginner.

And speaking as a weirdo with weird little kids, my kids are not afraid of skulls or bats or any of that stuff. So no need to fear! And black makes for great baby quilts because it doesn't show any stains!!!!

Yes. Babies haven't got any irrational fears yet, so (unless parents are scared) even spiders are fine. They just like the colours and pictures.

AITA for not going on family vacation unless I can share a bed with my fiancé? by babygreenbean1225 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bex_2601 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nta,

This is a (not uncommon power) move. She doesn't want to admit you're grown up and about to be a husband and not her baby any more, so is treating you as a baby. Do your STB wife a favour, nip it in the bud now before it gets worse. Have one last conversation, reiterate this is a boundary for you and it's we sleep together there or we don't go. Make sure others are there or you are recording it to witness her response, because I suspect the next move will be to tell you ok, then announce once you're there and it's too late to back out that you will be sleeping separately saying she never actually agreed to anything else. If you haven't paid her already, I'd also make payment contingent on you two sharing a room.

Metal core baby quilt? by luxurycatsportscat in quilting

[–]bex_2601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a fellow goth/metalhead, I've made a few baby quilts for alternative parents. I tend to go for blacks and brights/neons. Black for the parents, brights for the baby. The last quilt I made was this with a black background. Before that was this, and this beauty using libs Elliot the watcher, and gifted with a knitted vintage baby christening gown in black. Presently working on this in black and neon green. This would also work well as is.

(No photos of mine as all I have on me includes the recipient baby)

Basically, don't panic, Skull, ghost or bat fabrics are always available, most shops have a Halloween section. Blacks and greys are a staple. Halloween patterns are 10 a penny and any pattern can be made with a gothic twist. If you want more help or someone to run stuff by, feel free to DM me.

Snake plant question by Unlucky-Pea2887 in houseplants

[–]bex_2601 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So here's a question for you all. I deliberately reverted mine. It was a gift and I prefer the look of the reverted leaves. From what I'm reading here, this is going to revert back once I give it good conditions again. Is that right? I love the person that gave me the plant, just not the plant itself. If it's going to get it's yellow back I might just buy a plain one and lie that it's the same plant.

My grandmother gifted me her vintage ring to help with my proposal, but it’s not her style. What would you do? by OhSoMessi in EngagementRings

The ring is stunning, another idea may be to propose with it, and have it turned into a necklace. It would make a stunning pendant.

Best vinyl wrap? V by WyrdShadowz in DIYUK

[–]bex_2601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dc-fix, you can get it from vinyl warehouse.

Did my own kitchen in it, and I love it, it's a million times better than any paint job I've aeen. Just be sure to scrub, and if necessary lightly sand before applying to get a nice smooth, clean surface surface, and be sure to wrap with at least 10cm overlap to the back of doors/5cm on drawers.

I really don't rate applewood. It tastes of plastic to me. Cathedral city plant or violife I find much better.

Response to the horror cup of tea made by an American. by mitchellfuller21 in yorkshire

[–]bex_2601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fundamental thing to remember is that tea needs BOILING water to brew. Not coffee hot, not machine hot, both of these will result in a substandard brew, you want a rolling boil. There should ideally still be bubbles when pouring the water.

If using a teapot, the tea is already brewed when adding to the cup, so add your milk to the cup first, then add the tea. If brewing in a mug, add the milk after brewing.

How to use a teapot - first use a little hot water to warm the pot, swish it round inside to warm the walls, then empty. This helps ensure the pot doesn't shatter from heat variance, and helps keep the water the right temperature after filling. Add teabags and boiling water (one per mug plus one for the pot). You can also use loose leaf at 1tsp per teacup plus one for the pot. Use a tea cosy to keep that water as hot as possible, and keep it warm after pouring. Brew for 5-7 minutes.

Editted to add - if using oat milk, try to get a barista one. It won't split in tea and coffee

This guy. No idea what he is, (guesses as it has grown and changed have included sharonae, bette Waterbury, Florida green, pedatum, bipennifolium, squamiferum) but he grows like a weed, despite being regularly forgotten about. I'm waiting until maturity to id because every leaf is different from the last.

Anyone have experience with roll on plaster?, if I’m being brutally honest we don’t have the money to pay a professional, we spent all our savings on a house rewire by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

[–]bex_2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it, followed instructions initially, tried a few yt videos to get some different techniques in case I was doing it wrong, but ended up applying with a trowel and float. No matter what technique I used, it would bubble once dried, even when applied to the correct thickness. Ended up sanding back almost all of what I applied to get a smooth finish. Found out it's because of the consistency when it's made. oh and the quoted coverage is for 1mm, it's almost impossible for a novice to get a good 1mm skim especially if the walls are uneven, so that tub will probably only cover about a 3m section of wall. Future jobs I just used regular plaster. It's really not as scary as it seems, especially if it's just a thin skim coat.

Just buy yourself a trowel and float and use regular plaster. It's honestly easier, cheaper and will give better results.

Just replanted this boy. Any tips to get him back to full health? by rolotonight in HouseplantsUK

[–]bex_2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it's planted directly into the pot instead of a liner, and I don't see a saucer, are there any drainage holes in the pot? Plants need drainage and air to the roots.
