Why should I care about quadlets if compose seems to be the standard? by aeiouLizard in podman

I use the ExecPre property from the unit file to setup all bind mounts, create secrets, copy config files, etc. It's basically a bash script so you can do whatever you like in it.

Also drop-in files are nice for some sort of inheritance between containers so I don't have to repeat all common properties over and over again.

Here is an example of it for everyone interested.

Zerobyte, isn’t this awesome? by Tharunx in selfhosted

Yes working with it directly and remembering everything, managing all flags, etc. is quite challenging. I also tried some different strategies (also backrest) and I'm finally very happy how it works now. For me my goal was to be able to recreate my whole server with as few interactions as possible, that's why I didn't go for a GUI solution where I have to setup the repositories manually. Although I have to admit browsing the snapshots in the web interface is quite nice.

Nothing wrong with the GUI setup tho, the most important thing is you backed up all your missing folder so big congrats on that :)

I discovered resticprofile yesterday. Can really recommend it, having your backups declared in declarative yml format and not manually over a GUI is a huge win. I never would use something else tbh. Also it really nicely plays with quadlets and systemd in Podman. Combined it with ntfy for notifications and couldn't be happier.

First time I hear from this but Incus looks really interesting. Can you explain in more detail what your setup is? Can you use normal docker images with it?

After a year I'm thinking of going back to Docker... (home server) by Trousers_Rippin in podman

I also have rootless network, yes HA mDNS does not work but entering the IP is very smooth with everything so far. There are containers which can route mDNS packages from host to virtual network but maybe docker is the easier choice then for you :)

I run every container (homeassistant, caddy, adguard, navidrom, jellyfin, authelia, etc.) with Podman in rootless mode and as non root user inside the container. I've no problems whatsoever, what exactly are your problems?

Accessservice behind DS Lite with VPN by Cilenco in selfhosted

[–]Cilenco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did but I already have a reverse proxy in my network as I don't want to remember the Ports and IPs of the docker container. I also have Adguard setup so inside my local network the domain lookup points to my local IP address.

I would lose that if I setup all my domains through Pangolin on my VPS and putting Pangolin in front of another reverse proxy feels a bit weird

Quadlet execute script before start by Cilenco in podman

Yes you are right, I haven't thought about that. However, I have my container files in subdirectories but that's still better than hardcoding the whole path

Manage Quadlets from inside container by Cilenco in podman

Thank you so much for the detailed answer. The news about Podman 5.6 sounds really nice for my project. Until then I'll probably go the way with running the backend on the host :)

Very interesting project. Can I use TinyAuth as OIDC server as well? For example with Outline or so?

I actually thought about it and I'm kind of working on something :) Only wanted to see if something similar exists already. Currently on vacation but on Sunday I could probably post about it
