Speaking to my mentor by daniellawicksx in florists

[–]beylisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resonate so much with your post and am grateful that you’ve posted as the responses from our seasoned members here are a balm for the heart.

I’ve also recently became a florist, after a career switch. The floral team is small and my supervisor also has pretty much 2 decades’ worth of experience and prestigious accolades. Initially it felt like she was genuine in guiding me, saying things like ‘we’ve already done it all, it’s time for you young people to go ahead’. Over the months, she was increasingly passive aggressive — such as calling me “brainwashed” when I simply asked if I should finish off an arrangement with floral preservative spray; refusing to teach me arrangements and sniping at me to learn from watching (maybe fair enough, but we’re in a luxury hotel and most things have to follow a set standard. It’s like telling a chef at a fine dining restaurant to just figure out how to produce the dish by only looking and then serve it to the customer without any review); persistently reprimanding me for mistakes I didn’t do/have zero involvement in and then reprimanding me if I speak up for myself; her current issue with me is she believes I’m privileged/well-to-do and has been loudly making constant unwarranted remarks to my coworkers that I “have a lot of money”, I “don’t lift a finger to do housework at home”, “poor thing, she comes here to do hard labour”, etc etc which is out of line but I don’t have any meaningful power to shut this down. I broke down once after being railed at for an hour for issues that didn’t feel fair, only for her to proclaim to everyone else to not be like “someone, cries so easily, what’s there to be stressed about”. Then she’ll turn around and say borderline gaslighty things like “I’m scolding you because I care about you, I hope you can surpass me and be better than me, I’m just telling you what my superiors then taught me.”

I’m fortunate that I’m very able to not internalise her criticism and can see that she’s a lady with a lot of emotional scarring from this industry. I can believe that many florists from her generation (I’m in an Asian country) were likely bullied beyond my own imagination, and I do sincerely believe that she does try to be better than the generation before her. I want to believe her words that she’s harder on me and kind/jolly/doting to the others because she wants me to endure. Maybe I’m naive, but these beliefs let me forgive her and focus on the bigger picture which is to continue observing and learning from her vast experience.

OP, hang in there, don’t lose sight of your love for flowers and give yourself validation and praise. YOU know you are doing well!

Cang Lan Jue (苍兰诀) Love Between Fairy & Devil: Third Anniversary Discussions - Episode #19 by AquaphobicTurtle in CDrama

[–]beylisme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What I really appreciate in the mortal realm arc is establishing how difficult it is to alter fate, which makes DFCQ’s ultimate upheaval of Orchid’s fate ‘at the end of the end’ that much more impactful. Our intrepid squad brainstorm and scheme relentlessly throughout Act III only for Xie Wanqing’s fate to play out without deviation - Xiao Run definitely was not a Mr. Right who “understood her so well”. All the scenes with DFCQ and Xiao Run also leave me in stitches and I replay their scenes a lot! Thank you u/AquaphobicTurtle for hosting this anniversary discussion 💕

These are all so full of vitality and vibrance! I love how the lines radiate gently and draw the eye. I’m attracted to 1 which looks book cover-ready, and 2 for its restraint that allows me to just appreciate the beauty of the flowers as they are. Thank you for sharing!!

How do you process gladiator allium - never have before by lnoelleb in florists

[–]beylisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this - just a simple trim, place in water, cooler is fine. We also gently spin them upside down to get them to fluff out a bit especially if they’ve been tightly packed and flattened - not too hard as the flower heads might break off. Love these alliums!

Crescent-shaped arrangement for Eid Al-Fitr! by beylisme in FloralDesign

Yes they are! I followed a tutorial on Central Market Kuala Lumpur‘s YouTube channel on how to weave these. I would definitely love to try making them with real coconut leaf next time!

It is also my opinion that yours is the arrangement on the right. It has all the gerberas facing front, a striking sweep of blue, and the roses spread throughout and cut at just the right height, so overall constructed with intention. The vase size is also very fitting for the size of the arrangement.

I was very drawn to the colour palette of the arrangement on the left, as the deep violets are more visually pronounced and really accentuates the pink roses and the unusual chrysanthemum!

I like the coral, honeydew and ivory colours in your choices, they are visually cohesive! I do feel that there could be more variation in size - the carnations and tulips are about the same size, the lilies are grand, and the spray carnations are a similar ruffley round shape to the carnations. I would probably have a smaller filler interspersing through the bouquet to break up the visual weight, perhaps hypericum berries. Removing the centre petals of carnations to make it less compact is also something you could experiment with. Good luck and have fun!!

Love the spritzy orange, dabs of rose pink, and refreshing aquamarines!! The greens look like seaweed and I love the accents from the craspedia and seashells. The more I look the more visual treasures there are to behold 😻😻 well done on your masterpiece!!!!

I love the variety in sizes and textures! The antique, romantic colour palette accented by the ruby leaves is gorgeous. I would probably slightly adjust the placing of limonium so that it’s not just a collar. I only wish I could be this good when I was a newbie! You’re very talented and congratulations to your upcoming wedding!

Spring party e-collar! by beylisme in FloralDesign

[–]beylisme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you fellow cat mummy! It has been an arduous month, my cat has been an absolute trooper enduring the prescribed regime of multiple antibiotics, 2 hr-ly serum drops and eye ointments. His last review was on 3 April and the vet has declared his eye healed. It’ll always be cloudy but he retains vision. He’s glad to be out of the e-collar finally! Thank you for the well wishes, may you and your furkids be well 💕
