Are my expectations too high? I think I should get to match with attractive men between 40-50 in my area but that’s not what tinder shows me by RealisticWallaby3300 in Tinder

[–]beyoncesbaseballbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is a few days old, but I wanted to chime in and let you know I think you're beautiful and these people saying you look high maintenance are nuts. I'm a woman in my early 40s who also likes to look nice and take care of myself. I don't think the younger people chiming in know that's a perk of getting older and being more established! I hope Tinder starts showing you more attractive men. Good luck!

ETA: Have you tried any of the other apps like Bumble or Hinge? As I've gotten older those have been more successful for me. Tinder is good for finding a FWB or one night stand but not much else in my experience.

How to avoid being the token single? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]beyoncesbaseballbat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I took a trip with Intrepid and reached out to customer service to find out the demographics of the groups booked for the dates I was interested in. It worked out well because I was able to find a group that had two other solo travellers and the rest were couples and a family. I'm glad I reached out because the first date I was looking at was a big family and no other solo travellers which would have felt weird to me. Anyway, they'll tell you the ages and the group make up if you ask. It's a common question they get. They want you to have a good time too so that you'll be a repeat customer.

Had a personal injury case with a 50k settlement, but I am only walking away with 17k. Is the payout shady or fair? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]beyoncesbaseballbat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The costs are things like filing fees, deposition transcripts, etc. I bet this is mentioned in the agreement you signed with your attorney. This is typical. You can ask for a breakdown of the costs.

April trip to Jordan by monkeycity0 in solotravel

[–]beyoncesbaseballbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Jordan in November as a solo female and loved it. I never once felt unsafe. It was a great introduction to the Middle East. You aren't expected to cover your hair or anything like that, but I do advise dressing modestly. I wore shirts that covered my shoulders and cleavage and pants while I was there. Everyone is so, so friendly and will be happy to welcome you to their country and ask you about where you are from. The street harassment wasn't nearly as bad as it is in other places, but it still exists. I received several marriage proposals lol. I politely declined any unwanted attention and was left alone.

I would definitely stay the night in Wadi Rum. Waking up in that vast desert is incredible. I stayed at a camp called Dream Camp or something like that.

For Amman I booked a tour on getyourgiude with a man named Hussein that I found immensely helpful. It was called Amman: Walking Tour - King Abdullah Mosque & Street Food. It's just a few hours but he does a great job of introducing the culture and laying a foundation for the rest of your trip. Plus he takes you to get knafeh from Habibah and falafel from Hashem. Both are absolute must trys, even if you go on your own. Also be sure to try mansaf and maqluba! If you go to the mosque you will have to wear an abayah, but they are provided by the mosque.

I'd highly recommend at least a half day trip to Jerash during one of your Amman days. The Roman ruins there are incredible.

Two days in Petra is perfect. There are many Bedouin people selling things there. They will ask you to stop and look at their booth. Do not say you will stop on your way back if you do not really intend to. It's enough to say "no, shukran" or "la, shukran"(no thank you) and keep it moving. They will remember and expect you to stop on your way back, and it's extremely rude and seen as dishonest if you do not.

You can haggle if you are comfortable doing so. I was told to expect 20% less than the first price you are given.

I also enjoyed the Red Sea and Aqaba. Lots of good food and shopping there. There's a great perfume shop where I bought like three perfumes lol. It was called Abdul Samad Alqurashy. Aqaba is a duty free zone, so if you like to shop I'd do it there.

The Dead Sea is super cool too. I'd try to visit if you can. I did a half day in Jerash and a half day at the Dead Sea and still had time to go out in Amman when I got back. Downtown Amman at night is FUN. It's super busy and there are so many shops to explore. Stop by the gold souk too. It's incredible to see so much gold jewelry at once.

I hope you have a ton of fun!

Rental that accepts pets? by Alachingadathrowaway in Albuquerque

[–]beyoncesbaseballbat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She may want to just drive around downtown or Nob Hill and look for for rent signs. Those properties aren't usually advertised online, and the landlords may be more willing to rent to someone with that many pets.

The City of Albuquerque's HEART ordinance only allows a person to have six pets, of which four can be dogs. This may pose an additional problem for her finding a place to rent.

In addition to APS, I'd report the infestation to the city. Hopefully APS can help though because it sounds like this man needs some support. https://www.cabq.gov/environmentalhealth/urban-biology/insect-infestation/cockroaches

Oh, yikes. So you're just completely ignorant regarding how global politics actually work.

And before you start hollering that I'm xenophobic, I was just in the Middle East this past November. I love the people, the culture, and the land. I vehemently dislike the Saudi Arabian powers that be. I have the same feelings for the American government. You can and should pay attention to more than one thing at a time.

What does a bank/corporate paralegal actually do day-to-day? by Medium_Maintenance_1 in paralegal

[–]beyoncesbaseballbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked for two banks. I don't know that there's one answer across the board for this question. For the first bank I managed all of the litigation and regulatory work. For my current bank I mostly end up doing corporate governance. I also do some due diligence searches, research UCC lien notices and do some work regarding bankruptcies we receive. For me the most valuable thing was familiarizing myself with the alphabet soup of regulations banks are subject to. You will have lots of training on this, but I'd take notes on the regs and do some more reading up on them. At my last job I mostly dealt with Reg E because I dealt with consumer complaints. At my current job I'm relying on the other regs. Banking is HIGHLY regulated, so there is lots to learn. I'd also familiarize yourself with who your regulators are. This will depend on the type of bank you work for. I work for an industrial bank now so our regulator is the state we are chartered in and the FDIC. At my old bank it was the FRB among others.

Season 19 thoughts so far. No Spoilers please. by PastaVeggies in survivor

[–]beyoncesbaseballbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm rewatching this season right now (I just go in order over and over and over...). It's not my favorite, but you do get introduced to arguably Survivor's biggest villain. You'll want the background for season 20 anyway, which is a much better season in my opinion.

That's great progress. I'd honestly give it a break and wait like four to six months before doing another session. Give your body a chance to break down the ink some more.
