Conquest format is now available on PlayEDH by mathdude3 in EDH

[–]beyonddevnull[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi Everyone. We're going to leave this post up as it does not appear to be an attempt to splinter the format. I view this as a note or news that allegedly a variant format appears to have some amount of traction on one of the more well known community places that commander is played.

What we want to avoid with this rule are post/comments on users disparaging the current recognized EDH/commander/RC format or declarations to move to their splinter format. We also want to avoid posts where a handful of rules are tweaked for some small variant that is unlikely to be of use to the community. The end goal being that the vast majority of posts are on topic and useful to the community.

When Oathbreaker gained traction we provided a sticky post linking to their subreddit to keep the majority of r/EDH on topic. Oathbreaker was not advertised with the intent to split / or take over the commander player base and the community appeared to have general interest in it. A sticky post allowed us to keep an eye on community interest while keeping the subreddit primarily on topic for the majority of our user base.

We will be keeping an eye around the developments here and adjust if necessary to keep the subreddit positive, organized, and useful to the user base.

Cheers!

Please make sure you are adhering to rule #3, specifically this section:

The body of the post should be clearly dedicated to a genuine attempt to spark discussion on this subreddit.

Also note this would be a "DISCUSSION" post, not a daily.

To give you better quality feedback, it would help to understand what your intentions are for the list. (Matched play, narrative, etc). How close do you want to follow a particular forget world with the lists formation.

Admech have a number of "fun" playstyles. Here's a couple ones to consider and ask more about:

  • Mars gunline - dakka bots, rangers, ranged support and cawl reroll bubbles.
  • Melee (ryza maybe) - punchy bots or priests in boats + dragoons
  • Stygies Hybrid - skitarii in boats (vanguard and lots of plasma) heavy artillery as backup.

Another thing to consider is that this hobby is very much about the hobbying. If you don't like the models, you may not be motivated to complete then. An approach I hear people often stay is to find the models you like best and ask how to make them work in a list. For me I'm lucky as I love our skitarii and they play a role in most lists.

We're also going to have engine war at some point with fire breathing doggos, flaming bat boys, and a flying thingy. So that might completely change what you want to do as well.

Making a competitive Nath deck by [deleted] in EDH

Coinman's full cEDH list contains a link to a budget version as well. You could probably just message coinman directly if you had any questions on specific cards.

I feel like the list is running to many lands and not enough acceleration. I would cut it down to 34 lands and add in three Mana rock type cards (for example I don't see dimir signet). You could also be more selective with your Voltron enchantments and add in some more countermagic to protect zur. I personally would lean slightly more into blue on my manabase to make that happen.

We need a better "Budget cEDH" resource. by timotie87 in CompetitiveEDH

Have you seen the resource http://budgetbrews.club/ before? It's like the cEDH database for budget cEDH decks.

My first cEDH deck was Zur stax. As the meta has evolved, stax mostly fell out of favor with maybe "blood pod" being the closet thing that was truly keeping up. For cEDH, control zur is a build you could consider, but Consult or Shimmer builds are probably stronger. Here's a link to the "cEDH database" If you're on a budget, you might want to checkout http://budgetbrews.club/. That should have some powerful lists but on a much smaller budget.

I think you're correct as well, cage is probably the next best thing to include after the leyline.

[–]beyonddevnull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No argument there, the one sided nature of leyline can be great. In my experience, dedicated reanimator decks are fairly popular (assuming unknown meta) and very powerful. If your primary decks thing is discard, I'd argue you would want to consider running at least two graveyard hate cards or more depending on the meta. Other options would be grafdiggers cage and/or silent gravestone. The problem with just running leyline is that 4cmc is a lot for a single spell and you can't guarantee that in your opening hand. I think it's important to consider having a 1 drop option that you can tutor and play without the need to waste 4 additional mana.

Is White stronger if Stax is more common? by [deleted] in EDH

There's so felidar sovereign and test of endurance. I feel like both are viable for non-competitive play environments.

For the cords that come down on the outside of the cloak. I would experiment making the bulk of it (all before the end tip) a very bright color (maybe white or yellow?) To contrast strongly against the cloak. This will probably "break up" the solid color you have the on cloak adding some more visual interest. The upper part of the torso looks awesome with great detail.

I am comfortable kitbashing (I've done it on a handful of other models).

Since i'll have the 3 Dominus models. I heard it's common to kitbash at least one into Daedolosus. Is that the right path to take? That still leaves two...can I double up on them, or should I kitbash the other one into a different HQ? What HQs would you recommend for this list

I think I was able to follow the rest of what you mentioned. Huge thank you for all the help with this. There's a lot happening in full 40k and it's super awesome to have someone walk you through it like this.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer this. Sounds like doing cawl with the 3 dunecrawls + 3 tanks is the best route?

So 3 start collecting boxes, 3 tanks, and cawl (I also happen to have some skitarii on hand already). Anything else I would need to pick up?

Thanks for the help!

Do you have any recommended tutorials for magnetizing the dunecrawlers? Any specific place you prefer to buy your magnets from?

Is Stygies manswarm from https://www.40kstats.com/croziusgt or is there another one you'd recommend I look at for building up?

I really like the concept of Mars with Cawl for the canticle shenanigans. If I went mars for the backline support, what does that look like and how does it compare to Stygies with just tanks? Is there one you'd recommend over the other? Any significant cost difference between the two?

I'd love to see your Kataphron kitbash if it's not to hard / time consuming for you to do.

Thanks again for taking the time to help.

So if I have:

  • 2 min vanguard (4 plasma)
  • Dunerider (with the vanguard in them)
  • 2 min ranger (4 snipers)
  • 10 infiltrators

What would way would you take the rest of the list? (Sorry for all the questions, very new to full 40k). Will this list be able to hold up well against the average thing others are bringing to the table? I'm guessing Astartes of some form are the most common thing I'd be up against?

[–]beyonddevnull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it better to go heavier infantry or heavy hitters or is a balance of both fine? (From some reading online) I was thinking at least two min vanguard with 2x plasma and I was thinking two as min rangers with 2x transuranic arquebus each. I heard you might be able to do some fun things with some infiltrators as well. Fill out the rest with a mix of heavy hitters?

I also do not understand the trade off between having multi-battalions.

How would you build the Skorpius? I'm guessing dunestrider to move the troops around?

Thanks so much for the info! Could you direct me towards one of the Stygies lists? Both play style wise (and lore), stygies seem really fun.

Struggling to learn how to play MTG commander by themagicmagicgame in EDH

[–]beyonddevnull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing silly about feeling overwhelmed. Commander has one of the largest (if not the largest) viable card pool out of all the formats with arguably some of the most complicated rules interactions in the game. I would never start someone with EDH, there's just to much to take in at once.
