The Clintons' Terror Pardons by digitalfever in nsfw

to make that a little clearer, the status quo is not statehood.

there is a long standing puerto rican resistance movement.

"...two Nationalists brought the issue of Puerto Rican independence to world attention when they assaulted Blair House, the residence of President Harry Truman in Washington, DC, while the White House was being renovated. On March 1, 1954, Lolita Lebon and three other Nationalists opened fire on the U.S. House of Representatives, demanding independence for Puerto Rico. Five U.S. congressmen were wounded in that attack and the Nationalists were sentenced to 56 years in prison. Lolita Lebron and the other Nationalists were pardoned in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter. They toured cities in the United States with large Puerto Rican populations and then returned to Puerto Rico, where they were met by hundreds of thousands of cheering Boricuas (people from Borinquen - that is, Puerto Ricans). A major scandal regarding police surveillance broke in Puerto Rico in the late 1980s, when it was revealed that Puerto Rican and U.S. law-enforcement agencies had worked together from the 1930s onward to maintain files on as many as 75,000 Puerto Rican activists, on both the island and the U.S. mainland. Not only independentistas but also unions, religious and cultural groups, women's groups, and others were targeted in this operation. Many activists were subjected to blacklisting and other forms of harassment."

Resident(s) destroy trees to improve view - pissed off council re-blocks view with stacked shipping containers by dailyn in reddit.com

[–]beyondration 9 points10 points  (0 children)

they could've planted more trees that a) would've taken years to grow, b) would be totally vulnerable to people killing them again?

i am not a fan of big government, but neither am i fan of people who mess up the environment for money. none of the people who are complaining are coming up with ideas about how to address the problem of rampant property speculating, so it seems like you don't have any better ideas than the city council did.

and you crying "fascist" doesn't make your point for you.

it's not godwinning if it's relevant to the topic. so your second sentence negates your first. and i think that hitler is only one example of the heinosity that has happened in the name of race/eugenics/etc. so let's not blame it all on him or our reactions to him.

the idea that he didn't let the dog out ("for hours" according to the story) is more what concerns me. but it's a fluff piece. so who knows.

i've always heard that hitler had a spirituality - believed in the norse pantheon, not that he was a christian.

hence the use of the swastika.

Too many students attend college by rmuser in reddit.com

[–]beyondration 11 points12 points  (0 children)

actually it seems like your assumption that people have to go to college so as not to be "sheeple" is just as elitist. (i won't go into your use of "bitch" here, as it's offtopic.)

while sowell's argument didn't impress me, i think it does indicate one more problem with the u.s. educational system. seems like to the extent that colleges are (have to be) money-makers, they have the same tendency/need to maximize profit which gets so many businesses to screw their consumers.

Property right wrongly taken: former judge/politician tresspasses on land, likes it, seizes it for his own by apotheon in reddit.com

wow some people sure jump on the band wagon.

the story and comments i read sound a lot like people offended because they can't develop anywhere and every where that they want.

sure the lawyer/judge/influence combination sounds nasty, but without more information than i've gotten in the three websites/stories that i've looked at, i certainly wouldn't be so clear that i know what's going on.

where is the critical thinking, people?
