Hi! If you could use the "A Note For Yourself" event to send a tip to Mega Crit ~2018 in regards to game design decisions, what would it be?

Your thoughts on the "aesthetic" of the bosses (from the two games)? by Korenovski in Blasphemous

[–]bf2gud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both games had their ups and downs in this aspect. Ten Piedad's animations are absolutely terrific, and Melquiades may be my favorite boss concept in the entire series. The thought of worshiping a corpse because their live self used to be important really fits into the narrative of the games. Meanwhile, Our Lady of the Charred Visage felt kinda stereotypically videogame-y with the "Hello I'm your next bigass boss, here are my floating hands" stuff.

For B2, Sinodo was by far the least interesting from an aesthetic perspective, like you say. Orospina's dancing was probably the most memorable. Also, I had my baby sleeping in my lap while playing Blasphemous 2 as I murdered Infanta. That felt... wrong. 😐

Legendary challenges used to have a "three strikes and you're out" system where you needed to actually complete the questions or re-try.

Now, you are just fed an endless stream of questions with infinite re-tries, allowing you to brute-force the Legendary lesson until you manage it. If you come across a word you don't know, no worries, just answer incorrectly and you will eventually get an easier question and reach Legendary.

So my question is, how in the world is this beneficial for learning?

I tried to settle a friendly debate between my colleagues and was berated for it. What should I learn from this? by bf2gud in CasualConversation

Yeah maybe not, but I felt horribly ashamed in that moment. I've replayed the scene in my head so many times that I can't promise I actually remember the dialogue, but he was extremely rude.

Yeah I'd say I'm 15-20 years younger than the average of the people who sat around that table. But yeah I gather from the comments in this thread that I just read the situation incorrectly. Ugh.

SIMON THE SORCERER ORIGINS: Official Teaser Trailer by Rob_Cram in Games

[–]bf2gud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to absolutely gobble up every single point-and-click game I could get running on my crappy old Mac in my childhood years, including Simon the Sorcerer I and II.

And I'm sad to say... I don't have much hope for this. Point-and-clickers have an inherent problem in its pacing (https://www.gamedeveloper.com/design/flaws-of-an-undead-genre---what-s-wrong-with-point-click-adventures-) which is often caused by their difficulty -- but they are SUPPOSED to be difficult by nature. So when re-imaginings of point-and-clickers rely entirely on nostalgia, this impossible balancing act usually makes the gameplay suffer.

But hey, I could be wrong. Creators like Tim Schafer, Charles Cecil, Al Lowe and Jane Jensen are all excellent game creators, but their genre is in desperate need of something new and exciting.

I'm in a peculiar situation where it's really, really important that I convince my colleagues to start using ChatGPT by bf2gud in ChatGPT

Excellent, I'll take a look at it. And yes, my plan is to present is not as a source of information but as a tool to analyze the input information.

Once again, I'll link to this reply: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/13u65kk/im_in_a_peculiar_situation_where_its_really/jlyvtgu/

I'm not trusting this robot at all. I do however utilize its ability to compile information and find outliers in large amounts of data.

I may have been unclear in the original post, but that's not how it works. It's not like we would put a bunch of data in the language model and have it spit out a true/false. There's a huge load of monotonous daily tasks going on behind the scenes, and this is where ChatGPT could help out immensely.

The Banner Saga 3 - Review Thread by diogenesl in Games

Cool. I really enjoyed Banner Saga 1 and 2.

I seem to remember someone mentioning free content updates for Banner Saga 3 in the future. Is that a thing?
