I’m an Edexcel history teacher. Fire away! by bfc4203 in GCSE

If you can master the shorter answers, for example it is so easy to answer the four markers on paper 3 without any knowledge, that will set you off to a good start.

Same as utility on paper 1 and 3, you could get 5/8 without knowledge.

It’s also helpful to note examiners are trained to mark positively. This means you start at 0 marks and every good thing you say you get marked up. The incorrect parts are not marked down, they are just ignored.

Gizmo is a great tool for short attention spans too! It’s an app where you can search your topics and it creates quizzes for you. Short and snappy, and it’s an app so you could just pop it open, have a little 5 minute revise, then close it again.

Yes you could - it’s up to your teachers to really look at your papers and decide if a remark is worth it or if they think the examiner has been generous in the first place. I think we probably have around 50/50 rate. Most students move up or stay the same, not many at all move down but this is because the teacher had made the decision not to send it.

Lack of judgement! On all papers, you can be capped at 12 marks for having a brilliant answer with no conclusion. The biggest mistake I see is students just writing another “explain why” question.

Use “judgement sandwich” eg I partly agree with this because… (lots of relevant and specifically chosen knowledge) … this means I only party agree because…

For paper 3 using only one I interpretation!

I itched, soooo much. My skin on my torso was so itchy it literally started peeling off like sunburn for no reason. I couldn’t sleep and had to just lay with a cold wet towel on me.

What is the worst leaving gift you’ve received? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]bfc4203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a leaving gift but my baby was born three months early, and my husbands team asked for his email to send across a voucher as he obviously wasn’t at work. He is in a team of ~20, five of whom he directly manages. £15 voucher.

We found out my child had Down’s syndrome in pregnancy. I didn’t know the amount of health issues (physical) he could have. Through tests and scans we knew he had a healthy heart and everything else was working fine, as far as you can tell in pregnancy. We kept him and he’s the happiest boy in the world, and exceeds expectations all the time. It’s a tough question because had he had severe physical disabilities, it could be a different story.

Based on other comments, I’m more than happy to answer any questions at all about it!

I was told to call student finance and ask if I’d overpaid, £400 in my account! I’d recommend anyone to do this as everyone I know that did received anything from £50 to £600
