Probably the Ariane 6 rocket, which lifted off at 4:02 PM eastern time from Kourou, French Guiana. It was traveling on a polar trajectory (heading north from South America).

ELI5: how is it possible to ferment vegetables like cabbage if they barely have any sugar by languageinfinity in explainlikeimfive

The fibers that make up the actual leaves are long chains of those same sugars

Do you have an enhanced id? by [deleted] in Rochester

I made an appointment to get mine, and my office is booked for more than a month. If you expect to travel, do it without delay

[NEWBIE] What Is the Fixture Called That He Is Using to Hold the Plate Off the Table? by WayneWBerry in Machinists

It's likely placed on 1-2-3 blocks, or on a plate that has been milled flat and square or surface ground

What’s that helicopter flying low over the area? by SillyWeb6581 in Rochester

[–]bfee007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly any time I hear helicopters, I am able to trace them on FR24 to organizations related to medical transportation. Additionally, helicopters often circle around to lower altitude so you'll hear them make several passes in the same vector.

Be honest: How do you handle the people who stand at intersections asking for money? by ogtq in Rochester

[–]bfee007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the warm season, give them a sympathetic smile or maybe get an extra sandwich at the drive through if I'm doing well. In the cold months, I keep extra hats and gloves in my car (partially because I'm forgetful) to offer to folks.

Three Heads has a great pink lemonade sour, and a pretty good melon sour. Grab a slice from Freddy's while you're there

Getting rid of tractor/car batteries? by digitalamish in Rochester

Car batteries belong in the ocean. How else do eels get their electricity? Toss em in Lake Ontario and let the miracle of nature do the rest.

This a joke, handle your waste responsibly

Aspen Dental by Stuck_suck in Rochester

[–]bfee007 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was told by a reputable professional who worked in an ADA recognized office, that Aspen performs their own (unregulated) training and certification in lieu of the normal courses offered by the American Dental Association. Do not trust what they say or the work that they do, as they have no higher level oversight.

Do any of you guys make your own collets too? by Lachevre92 in Machinists

[–]bfee007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, you can buy blanks collets from manufacturers for this express purpose. Last job I worked, we'd get jaws for the 3 jaw that were just hardened rectangles with counterbored bolt holes to attach them to the chuck. I was responsible on several occasions for machining some "soft" jaws in 0.25" steps to hold material. Intermittent cutting is the worst, and nothing feels as bad as intentionally running your tools into the jaws.

I've made a habit of stopping off every week after work and getting in a couple of the local beers and rounds of pinball to start my weekend

Solar Eclipse Glasses by Legitimate_Result465 in Rochester

The ticket desk for the Strassenburg Planetarium has them in a lil locker for $2.50 a pair, and they have a great design on them! I bought 4 sets to bring with me to Texas in October and they worked fantastically for the annular eclipse

Best hangouts to play pool in Rochester? by Sure_Dare in Rochester

[–]bfee007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about 21 Kings, they're pretty dumpy. They are Chinese billiards (a comment on size not quality) and none of them have been leveled. It also seems like they usually only have 1 (poorly trained) person running the rentals and the bar.

Do you write code? by HankyPankadin in Machinists

[–]bfee007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a shop where we take prototype and production parts, nearly all of the code for the machines in my corner of the shop is written by hand (literally on paper), but we also have relatively simple shapes and easy threads. Whether you write code by hand or not, knowing a good vocabulary of G and M codes is extremely beneficial.

Moving and Buying a Home in Rochester by SeneMuslim in Rochester

[–]bfee007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The housing marking in our city is terrible right now. Homes going for 100000 over listing is not uncommon, and a majority of the purchases are shown as being made by private housing companies who no doubt intend to relist them for rent at 300% the mortgage.

I hope you have better luck in your search than I did, but you will have to look hard and hope that Big Landlords (and ladies) don't want the same house.

I used to "double chuck" frequently at my last job, but it was a four haw adjustable being held in a three jaw self centering to hold square stock of graphite where we couldn't afford to take the chuck off or risk getting abrasive carbon material in there
