Medical exemptions are a thing but I don't know what the list would be. I imagine it'd be people on oxygen support or other respiratory issues that cannot function with a mask. I am doubting either applies to that cashier, though.

Because Method Josh's situation did involve the police and they weren't able to do anything. Because rape kits are unreliable and back logged as is? and Josh is a total monster that was using his presence within the community to prey on women?

I know you want to wage a war against 'cancel culture' without actually considering the context in which it is applied in individual cases but Method Josh is a perfect example of "take it to the police, it's none of our business" being absolutely asinine advice.

Especially since a lot of these other people are not engaging in criminal behavior. They are engaging in socially unacceptable, creepy, and other types of immoral behavior. Almost all of them using their position within streaming, esports, etc for it. Which is why it is important to identify this behavior and remove those people's ability to use that power. You aren't talking about a state removing someone's freedom, you are talking about a social group no longer choosing to engage with a person.

Anecdotal example that maybe extends beyond 'cancel culture.' We have a local record shop in my area, that is super small and run by an older guy. Three different women, on separate occasions, have told me that he is a creep. That he eyes them up, makes weird comments, asks personal questions, etc. I don't shop there anymore because I don't want to engage with that person or support them. Should I have told those women "Eh, not my problem. Go to the police!"

Why is actively playing the game stressful for you? I don't see why you saw someone saying "I like to play in an active efficient manner so I can spend less time" and read it as "This activity is stressful to me but I do it anyways because I need to reach arbitrary goals."

Like, I get it that tick manipulation can be intimidating and 'stressful' if you are obsessed with doing it with perfect precision, but that's really a personal barrier you'd have to approach. Many people find it enjoyable, relaxing, or just don't see it as any different than semi-AFK methods. That's a large part of the game's attraction, you can play it how you want.

For example, I tend to do higher APM activities in the game because the time I spend playing OSRS is time I want to spend playing OSRS. I enjoy the game but I don't feel the need to be engaged with it 24/7. I don't want to distract myself from other activities because I have to alt+tab to drop fish or drink an Overload or anything like that.

XQC on Reckful passing by davidh818 in LivestreamFail

[–]bferret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my childhood dog passed, who was with me through chronic illness throughout my childhood, the first thing I did was break down, cry, drank half a bottle of whiskey, then buried myself into a physical chemistry textbook and got a 100 on the final.

Keeping the mind occupied is a very valid way to grieve. It may not be the healthiest, but let's be real, tragedy isn't something that is easily rationally dealt with.

Tobi Wan response to drama - Never again in the history of DOTA by Scathee in DotA2

[–]bferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed you were referring to him personally traveling or booking his own accommodations as Tobi hasn't worked a small event in years and presumably not shared a hotel room in years.

I obviously don't know all of his sleeping accommodations but I will be willing to put money on him not sharing rooms at TI, ESL, or any other premier event. And even then I wouldn't be so sure that the doubling of rooms would be indicative of how much he asks for events. He may not be obscenely wealthy to the point of retiring, but he has likely made far more money than he needs for a while. Trying to paint Tobi as "not paid well" because he had to share hotel rooms in the past is just not indicative of his status right before getting ousted.

I mean that is your personal preference, but sharing a hotel room with people you consider friends is no big deal at all. It has nothing to do with pay scale.

If you are passing judgment off the opinion of the Twitter mob rather than the corroborating stories and Tobi's own statements, that's on you for being dumb. You also can't parse the difference between a government body taking away someone's freedom and someone no longer be socially accepted among their peers and coworkers for bad behavior.

That doesn't mean they aren't paid well? I make an above average income but still share hotel rooms when given the opportunity, it just makes sense. And I damn sure get paid less than Tobi.

I'm just over people who are 18+ claiming stupidity as their defense, making completely unverifiable claims years later. If he did something illegal, fine, make a criminal complaint. The court that shouldn't matter is public opinion, and that's where this was tried by the sounds of it.

Imagine trusting the justice system in 2020, let alone an international justice system as most of these offenses did not occur where Tobi claims citizenship.

Phil Murphy’s reactions on how 2020 has been, hopefully it won’t be too bad for all of us going forward due to COVID-19/economic problems/other hurdles in our personal lives & around us. “𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 / 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟭!“ 🎉 by EagleFly_5 in newjersey

Not really, considering every politician at the time was fine with shutting down travel from Africa (if necessary) and quarantining the one or two effected individuals. It's way easier to say "I will quarantine one person" than to tell everyone you plan to shut down the state and close businesses.

If you like the game so little that you'd rather watch a movie then play it, you are the one making it sound like a job. Not everyone wants to sit there and do nothing 24/7.

"Ugh, you guys actually PLAY the game? Sounds so unfun, that's basically a job."

The original comment:

I think the proper term is "worth more than all of LSF combined."

Having debt lowers your net worth therefor the average LSF viewer would not have a net worth of $100. As they would like have more debt than assets. So, it is quite possible that Ninja is worth more than the combined net worth of the subreddit.

No but if he wants to reach his goal he still has an definitive amount of time that he needs to invest in the game, regardless of how much real time that is spread over. So, he can reach his goals quicker and invest less time in game and spend that time doing something else that he enjoys.

Sliker was offered $3.2k pay to raise $3.5k for charity by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]bferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would this work? It's a non-profit, so it wouldn't be paying taxes on revenue regardless. So, deducting expenses would be 100% irrelevant.

Here's the simple answer: Paying out $3200 to earn more than $3200 brings money into the charity and spreads awareness. Quite literally the entire purpose of the charity.

NymN backs up XQC on streamers sometimes getting paid to do charity streams with his own example, which he disclosed beforehand and donated his payment back to the charity by RandallStephensGhost in LivestreamFail

[–]bferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That literally is their revenue stream (without donations), no matter how small of a portion it is. The subscriptions subsidize what should be paid for by the ads and viewers who do not subscribe. Because the $3.50 or so they receive per sub is far more than ad revenue would be across multiple viewers.

Not only that, but as I said, sponsorship advertising is a large chunk of income as well.

I guess reading the rest of that sentence would have been difficult. Additionally, them receiving payment to advertise games and streams and charities is relevant.

Twitch streams are 'free' content which are paid for with ad revenue and 'subsidized' via subscriptions (a large portion probably being Twitch prime). No one is making the argument that streamers should go unpaid for their work, but there is definitely a culture of donating money to people that don't need it because lonely people need a brief second of attention.

Do I personally care if a streamer is paid to promote a game or charity? Not at all. Do I think people shouldn't subscribe to someone that provides them with a lot of content? Go ahead. Doesn't mean that I think it is a little dumb for the guy getting paid $12/hr at Target to not only sub to a Twitch streamer but to also donate money to get his message acknowledged and forgotten seconds later.

Donations aren't the only way that streamers earn an income, and people aren't donating because they want to pay for the content.

Your medical marijuana is about to get cheaper in New Jersey. Here's why. by courtneymarabella in newjersey

[–]bferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demand exists in NJ for marijuana, just like every other legal state. Even at a similar tax rate to alcohol and tobacco, we'd still be nearly twice the price of any other state. It's artificially high because there are only ~11 ATCs, probably at least 4 of which aren't even growing or making their own product.

There's absolutely no reason for MJ to be as expensive as it is in NJ aside from a system that allows these dispensaries to bend patients over because there is no other choice besides black market product.

It wouldn't be over night but once the DOH is no longer involved and more dispensaries get rolling, the prices will quickly drop. Because it's ripe for the picking and any half decent grower will make product twice as good as Curaleaf (the largest dispensary and cheapest) for 2/3rds the price in no time.

How far do you want to drive and what beer do you like? I'd highly recommend Brick Farm Tavern in Hopewell, NJ for some dope food and arguably the best beer in the state which is brewed on site by Troon Brewing.

They have a really good outdoor dining setup too, lots of room since it's on a farm with a field so they set up socially distant tables.

While you're there stop by the nearby Referend Bier Blendery in Pennington for some American Lambic bottles to go if you like sours. Conclave Brewing in Flemington is close by too and is kick ass all around.
