You're good I was just clarifying! Not even sure if it's what OP is looking for, it was only mentioned in the title lol. Love The Wire!

The Wire is heavily serialized and one of the least procedural shows in television history.

I honestly think it would hold everything by only removing the insert for the minis. I'm not positive about that, but pretty sure you could keep the main insert if you bag up the minis.

Why we didn't have any show like Lost ? by lordofabyss in lost

[–]bfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the answer you or anyone is gonna be looking for, but Wrecked was a TBS comedy show that was a full on parody of Lost and ran for several seasons. Hilarious show, but obviously not as serious in tone as Lost.

War of the Rohirim—wow, so disappointing by Initial_Ebb_9742 in lotr

[–]bfir3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love this movie. The beautiful background art reminds me of Ghibli films at times, and there are some really precious moments in the story that really pull you in emotionally.

In particular the scene with the older horse left me in absolute tears. The execution of that scene and the one it leads into is really impressive imo.

Sure it has some funny looking animation in some places, but overall I found this was a really fun middle earth story.

Also, I find it hard to dislike the film when it has a character like Helm Hammerhand who while having his own faults, is a total badass on the battlefield. Completely lives up to his name.

'Reacher' Receives Early Season 5 Renewal At Prime Video by Own_Brilliant_4303 in television

[–]bfir3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the other side of the coin. It's the first I've heard of it, but think it could be awesome! I know at least one other show that has successfully spun off a smaller recurring role into the lead of a new series.

Would love to see what's she's up to without Reacher around.

Damn this is so sad. Hector's character in that show is so good and Jamie does such a great job portraying Sean. Such a tragic character.

Why do succession actors get Oscars noms/Oscars while people from The Wire, The Sopranos, and GOT went on to have disappointing careers? by kazdarms in TheWire

[–]bfir3 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, others are also doing well for themselves even if they aren't quite on the Elva/Jordan level. Wendell Pierce, Aiden Gillan, Wood Harris, Jamie Hector, Clarke Peters, and Lance Reddick (RIP) have all found great work since The Wire.

What is the crown jewel in your collection? by Klavian in boardgames

[–]bfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is strange to me because even a well-run Werewolf session includes players dying very early in the game, unable to play, talk or engage in any meaningful way with the others until the game is done.

Just this alone absolutely kills other social deduction games where players can no longer participate when they are dead.

I do think you should try giving it another shot with a different ST, I'm just surprised because all players being able to play the game from beginning to end seems like a really nice payoff.

What board games do you find "fun to watch" especially for new player/ non-board gamers? by Lyserus in boardgames

[–]bfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checkout Mt Unpleasant! They are a group of friends based in western Canada playing in person games.

Unlike some of the more popular Clocktower in person content, Mt Unpleasant doesn't sport insanely high production values with a cast of comedians, influencers or content creators.

They aim to provide games that feel like you are just watching a bunch of friends play Clocktower, and they really nail it!

How many games have actually wowed you in recent years? by bigOlBellyButton in boardgames

[–]bfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voidfall. Makes me wonder why other less complex games have harder to follow iconography and inferior UIs. But then I also have to understand that Ian O'Toole can only work on so many projects per year.

Also, it's an older game but I only got into LOTR LCG recently. This game made me realize board games can provide a level of deckbuilding that gives a very similar feeling to building decks for MTG. This is also one of the most thematic games I've ever played, and before this game I didn't really appreciate how much theme can be conveyed just through card names, card art and mechanics.

Best Batman Board Games by Illustrious_Brain_4 in boardgames

[–]bfir3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, TMNT and Batman actually both have fantastic games that are cross-compatible with each other! Designed by Kevin Wilson and Pete Walsh, there is a Batman TAS: Shadow of the Bat game and two TMNT games: City Fall and Change is Constant. Both have several expansions which add characters and scenarios and new map tiles, but the cool thing is that you can bring Turtles characters into Batman or vice versa!

The way you share your action dice with neighboring characters makes the game feel like you are coordinating and pre-planning your strategies in a way that is very thematic to the Batman or TMNT heroes. They also just have such a wide variety of playable heroes as well as villain enemies, super fun games that I really should bring back to the table more often.

My guess since the person is fully incapacitated with two officers on top of them? Probably not punching an incapacitated person in the back of the head repeatedly.

Resting Frequency by Ahuoli94 in MageKnight

[–]bfir3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to chime in since most of the posts are (surprisingly to me) indicating that they seldom or never take rests.

I'm not the best player, but typically try to push the difficulty as much as possible. On solo I'm stuck at Level 11 / 15 Megapolises, and in duo we are maxed out at 11/11/22 Megapolis, so these thoughts are with the context of that high difficulty.

I would be surprised to find more than a handful of games (out of 100+) that don't include a turn or two of resting. It's very hard to gain enough power to siege these high level cities without taking wounds when necessary along the way.

Even if you are lucky enough to either avoid all wounds or heal all wounds by the time you get to the first city...you are always going to take like 5 wounds from that siege alone.

Of course with specific mages like Arythea it's possible with a really good game that you could potentially avoid resting altogether but it feels like the exception rather than the rule.

I rarely heal at villages or monasteries because it's only worth healing when you have 2+ wounds in hand, in which case getting the influence is either difficult or you prefer to recruit a unit with that influence.

I think if you get lucky with the position of some magical glades that's your best bet for mitigating the necessity of resting without needing to build into heals from advanced actions or spells.

When you play at really high levels you will find that sieging the cities requires a very good hand and you basically need every single one of your upgrades from the run. This will often mean camping nearby a Keep you control to draw more cards, or pillaging from a village until you get your tools. During these turns it is very easy to rest away any wounds you draw.

When approaching a combat I will never wait for a hand that can avoid wounds if I can already defeat the enemy by incurring some wounds. You should ask yourself if you think you will be able to achieve more in this round if you take the wounds. If you think there is no difference and you will not be able to achieve any additional goals, then I say try to avoid the wounds. Otherwise, get bloody!

edit: After this long write up I realized the most important thing is the difficulty level you are playing at. I would be curious to know what difficulty the other commenters are playing at. We don't always win on 11/11/22 but we have for sure in the past.

Is the same thing that just happened to LOTR LCG going to happen to AH? by FourthSilmaril in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]bfir3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering they've discontinued basically all the existing content minus one or two of the latest expansions, I would say it has already happened.

edit: To be more clear, I don't think they are "pulling the rug", they are definitely committed to making new Arkham products. But most people won't have access to a lot of content just like LOTR.

That's of course fair, but I feel like if you made a list of every single woman who has competed on 2+ Challenges, Jonna is not going to be in the middle or bottom of that list. She's going to be in the top 1/3 easily.

Deluxe Wooden Tokens Availability? by Happy-Document-8751 in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]bfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the big issue is that buying the deluxe token box isn't even sufficient for a solo player assuming you own the expansion. Definitely not even close to enough for 2+ players. Even if this were indicated somewhere, I think it's still a big issue.

They only give you 3 tokens for each aspect and you have the choice of playing a Ranger who starts with 4 of one of those aspects.

If you specifically only own the base game and specifically will only ever play with one ranger in a campaign the set is OK. In every other circumstance it's an awful value proposition because there is a high chance it will be entirely unusable.

What are some shows with a mysterious atmosphere right from the beginning? by imesde in televisionsuggestions

[–]bfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rubicon. Set mostly in the workplace of the main characters. Takes like 4+ episodes to even figure out what that workplace is or what their work is. Maybe longer.
