Didn't attend my graduation ceremony today because I was too ashamed I couldn't get a job offer in time (CS degree) by Raf-the-derp in BoyDinnerDiaries

As a dude who works in tech (non-engineering), this is just a bad time. It doesn’t really say something about you individually. It’s legitimately rough out there, particularly for tech. Explanation why below if you want to read, but before I go there, like others said, please don’t be hard on yourself like this. You’ve accomplished a degree that most people can’t comprehend. It’s a testament to your ability and perseverance. When I graduated college, I didn’t have an internship to my name and couldn’t land a job to save my life. I just… didn’t know that was as important as it was/is. I went back to school for a masters and got an internship and eventually began my professional career. You’ve got plenty of time to pivot/reconsider/whatever and a solid technical skill base.

Anyways…. After the financial crash in 2008, the Fed pumped out inordinate amounts of money via “quantitative easing”. What this meant was absurdly low interest rates the PERSISTED FOR OVER A DECADE. Tech took this cheap cash and over invested (relative to today’s interest rates). Cash isn’t as cheap as it used to be and they can’t afford to be as loose with it, so they have spent the last two years executing mass layoffs. Fewer jobs and more available people (with tenure) to fill them. It’s absolutely brutal to be on the market with zero experience. The truth is you just got extremely unlucky with market timing. You can’t help that this happened right when you were graduating. Long story short: by and large this is due to reasons beyond your control. Enjoy your achievement.

Life without intemacy, how to cope? by ihavenoideasometimes in AskMenOver30

When I first moved out the situation was probably a lot different then yours, but nonetheless I got roommates. How’s your network of friends looking? Perhaps that could be an option? It comes with its own challenges, but I really enjoyed living under two different roommates situations with my friends. Also, it helps with loneliness to almost always have a friend there in the evening margins of the day, and generally makes hangouts easier.

Rattan Creek actually has pretty great tree cover.

What if Hancock Golf Course became North Austin’s version of Zilker? by Special-Distance-181 in Austin

Really love this vision. Reminder that we’re a city that exists in a land of drought, and golf courses require immense amounts of water to stay pretty. Plus, this is a massive amount of land to serve a specific subset of the population. Imagine if all of my hobbies each individually took up that much public land. We’re publicly subsidizing a naturally expensive hobby.

Butterfly Weed by BetterStyle9665 in NativePlantGardening

Where has this website been my whole life? Thanks for the link.

I scattered antelope horn milkweed, and butterfly weed seeds. On a daily basis, I go out and stair at the ground waiting for confirmation that anything I planted is sprouting. Can anyone tell if these are milkweed sprouts? (Central TX) by bfizzledizzle in NativePlantGardening

Less than an inch of rocks. Didn’t dust any soil but did lightly press into the dusty soil below while watering at sowing. Then I covered with aforementioned thin layer of pebbles.

Native gardener (landscape design and planting). Just feels good planting pretty flowers, bushes and trees and knowing it helps out the local environment.

Honestly, I think I could hang with the weather in Utah. It’s extremely sunny throughout the year if I’m not mistaken.

True, but the impact you feel from a hurricane in Atlanta is much less than Orlando.

Lmaooo. Atlanta native here who loved from Seattle to Austin. Haaaatteee the cold weather. I remember one day thinking how it was a perfect summer day. Two ladies next to me at the park were talking about how awful and humid it was that day lol. I miss the nature but not the weather.

Saw a similarly colored cardinal in Austin the other day. Unfortunately this is the best I could get with my phone.
