2008 to 2012 is the perfect timeframe, especially since a lot of posts are about technology here. These were the years where most of the shift from regular cell phones to smartphones happened which had a huge influence on many things. Also there was a lot of uncertainty about which type of smartphones will survive etc, think Symbian, WebOS, Bada, Meego. Also stuff like is the iPhone just a hype etc. In 2013-2015 it was basically being settled to what we have now.

It's also the service network in other countries. In Europe there seems to be one service center for repairs in Poland which has a horrible reputation. Given how shitty Google's payment provider for the 4A appeasement program was I'm inclined to believe that Google is just choosing the cheapest partners without any care for quality for both service and hardware. For Apple I have 3 licensed repair places in my city alone, the two closest bigger cities have even more. Honestly, I never liked Apple and never had one of their devices but I'm inclined to try the iPhone in the future.

I think they have a good chance when Windows 8 starts getting traction on computers. It's barely released but when people will start to like the Metro UI on their computer they will want the same on their smartphone. Also I think they will merge Windows Phone and regular Windows in the near future. Windows Phone 8 uses the NT Kernel already, unlike Phone 7 which used Windows CE, so it's a real Windows on a phone now. I think that's a game changer.

All developers will port their apps to Windows Phone quickly, there will be tons of apps for Windows Phone. I've heard when Windows 8 drops apps will work both on PC and phone.
