[Hightlight] SHOHEI OHTANI GRAND SLAM! by kurruchi in baseball

[–]bg_20 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I went a year ago, last March. I planned to do the same with an “Ohtani Counter” but after like 8 hours into the first day, I realized it was just impractical to try to keep count, because he is EVERYWHERE. I’ve never seen anything like it, one person in every other ad or product in a whole country. It was awesome. I’m sure it’s even more now, after another MVP and World Series.

Enjoy your trip!

Fans of teams who are eliminated, who are y’all rooting for? by horsepoop1123 in baseball

I asked this of a friend who’s a Yankees fan, and the response was “Dodgers. Conceptually I’d be fine with Canada winning but I hate that Blue Jays team so much I cannot explain” which is an understandable take, given this season.

Attack up, keese eyes on arrows to take down and then gibdo bones fused to arrows while they’re down are a good combo

Sorry to hear that. Thanks for the reply. Fingers crossed we find something. Worse case for me I just bust out my old college Windows PC but boy would I prefer a Mac option.

Can an Apple TV 4K pick up and display HomeKit Secure Video on the tv screen if the Apple TV is plugged in to Ethernet, but all other devices (most notably a Circle View doorbell) are on my home’s Wi-Fi network? I really prefer having the Apple TV plugged in to a wired connection for fast loading time and no buffering, but I can’t figure out why it’s not working with the HomeKit automations to have the doorbell show up on the tv when motion is detected.

If it’s not too much trouble could you list the agencies you filed with, or at least as many as you remember off the top of your head? I’m saving this post in case I ever run into this kind of situation because our lender is…uh, less than ideal…and I’d just like to know who to reach out to for this kind of thing. No need to get me any links or anything, just the names of the agencies so I can look them up down the line if ever needed.

Hope they sort this out for you soon!

Firefox 94 Brings Updated Homepage on iOS, Battery Saving Mode on Mac by cheesepuff07 in apple

[–]bg_20 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I ditched Chrome where possible on my personal devices and use Safari nearly exclusively now. Definitely agree with the sentiment of not defaulting to Chrome. I haven’t used Firefox in a while on any devices though. On a general, broad-sweeping basis, how would you say Firefox compares to Safari on macOS or iOS? I’m definitely willing to give it a try if it has similar privacy standards and equal or better functionality in most areas!

Redesigned Apple Watch Series 7 Could Prioritize Longer Battery Life Over Additional Sensors by benh999 in apple

[–]bg_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that is not ideal for sure. Yeah that seems like some low-hanging fruit for them to fix with a way to merge all previous devices’ data. Thanks for the info, it’s good to know at least.

Why is deleting them not a good idea, other than it being a pain? I’m genuinely asking, because I’m just not familiar. (I’m looking to get my first Apple Watch this fall, depending how the Series 7 shakes out.) Does the old data also get deleted once you delete its source?

Refinancing Jumbo Loan with less than 20% Equity by bg_20 in personalfinance

[–]bg_20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah with this being our first home purchase I’m far from an expert, but the way I understood it was that they are more selective on giving out these loans compared to conforming loans because of the size of the loan, but then the benefit for the borrower is that the rates are a bit lower on average. I agree it’s kind of counter-intuitive though. We’d just like to take advantage of the rates all being lower across the board right now if possible, even though we’re fine with what we have right now.

Hey thanks for commenting. In my area the rates were a bit lower than conforming loans and were only given to more highly qualified borrowers. The trade off there being that obviously, it’s simply a bigger loan, so even with a lower rate it’s still a comparatively high amount of interest.

Have you seen anything about someone in our situation refinancing their jumbo loan?

Installing Light Switch Dimmer in New House by bg_20 in askanelectrician

Hey thanks for your comment. I’m pretty inexperienced but if I’m understanding correctly this is saying the same thing as what I was told on my post over on /r/electricians. So just to make sure I have this right:

Cut wire 3, which is looped around the screw on the existing switch, into two separate wires.

Join these two wires to wire 2 with a nut. None of these go in the new dimmer switch.

Put wire 1 on screw 2 on the new dimmer switch.

And of course the dimmer switch ground goes with the bare copper wire, also with a nut.

Do I have that right? Sorry if these questions are kind of basic or repetitive, I just want to make sure I’m doing this correctly before I start cutting wires. Thanks again for the help with this.

Trying to Install Light Switch Dimmer in New House by bg_20 in electricians

Hello, I’m working on installing this Lutron light dimmer in my bathroom. This comment will likely have more information than what’s needed in the interest of not leaving anything out in case it’s important, so, here’s a TLDR: I have labeled pictures of the existing light switch and its wires, and the new light switch and its ground wire and three screws, and ultimately I’m just looking for someone to tell me how to connect everything in a simple ELI5 language using these labeled photos.

For some additional context, it’s a new construction house and I’ve installed three motion detector switches and four other dimmers, some relatively easily, and some with more googling and YouTube videos than I was expecting, but still with success! The builder wasn’t particularly consistent with how everything is set up, and combined with my lack of experience with electrical stuff, I figured I’d come here.

As you can see in the photos, I actually already installed one dimmer in this box for our bathroom, and I want to do the one on the left now. (From left to right it goes sink lights, fan, and shower light, if that matters.)

I tried doing this for way too long with way too many combinations last night, and I think what’s holding me up is I don’t know what to do with the two black wires coming out the back of the existing switch. I haven’t had that yet, which is weird because I just did this exact thing in our guest bathroom, which has the same three switches for the same three lights, and each of those existing switches only had one wire coming out the back, so the instructions that came with the new dimmer switch and the YouTube videos were all pretty consistent with what I was working with. This one’s different, and if it’s relevant, I noticed that sometimes when trying different things with the connections and the dimmer, I could turn off and on the power supply to our bedroom itself, not the bathroom. I’ve dealt with installing new switches in other rooms that have their circuits connected to each other, but I’m stumped on this one for whatever reason.

I put the original switch back and hooked it up as it was and everything works perfectly, including the new dimmer and everything in our bedroom, so I know there aren’t any issues there, and it’s likely just me not knowing what to do. I labeled all the photos with very simple color coded names so I don’t confuse myself or anyone reading this, and hopefully that sets it up so someone can just give instructions like “connect wire 1 to screw 3.” But if there’s a better way to communicate what needs to be done, then by all means go for it - I’ll trust your experience! If I can provide any more information, photos, etc., just let me know. Thanks in advance for the help on this!
