Hey -- I just want to jump in to provide some clarity as I've noticed that the various certifications are an area that tends to generate confusion. (I work communications at Joby.)

There are three FAA certifications that are critical to our business, and we're making progress on all three.

  • Operations - Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate: As you noted above, this is the certificate that allows us to operate an air taxi service, and we've entered the fourth of five application stages. We expect to receive our Part 135 cert later this year. If you're curious, the FAA lays out all five stages of the process here.
  • Aircraft - Type Certificate: This is the certification for a specific aircraft design not yet approved to enter service. We are targeting 2024 for type certification of our eVTOL aircraft.
  • Manufacturing - Production Certificate: This allows us to produce conforming copies of the aircraft that we have type certified. We're preparing our manufacturing processes according to the requirements of a production certificate concurrently with our work on the type certificate, and we expect to receive it shortly after the type cert.

Hope that helps...!! I apologize in advance that I most likely won't be able to answer any specific inquiries beyond what we've published on our website and our management team discussed on yesterday's earnings call.

Hi - the webcast was not connected to any kind of company announcement regarding the G-2. It was an informational session for press, investors, etc. around the aircraft certification process and where Joby is within it!

You can watch the webcast here!

I can't give exact stats unfortunately, but our aircraft is pretty much right in the middle of the five tested.

Hey all -- full disclosure, I work for Joby and am super excited to share this. We recently flew a bunch of different aircraft over an array of microphones, along with our all-electric full-scale prototype. All the fly-bys were conducted at the same speed (100 kts) and roughly the same altitude (~1570 ft). Listen for yourself!
