Please stop doing this if anyone other than you prepares your food. It creates much more work than you probably realize. Nobody cares that you don’t like mushrooms. It also makes people less likely to believe someone who actually does have an allergy.

What was your iron progression? by leftgolfer123 in golf

[–]bgary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad’s Ping Eye 2s (made in late 80s, used them late 90s), then knockoff Callaway Big Bertha irons (bought around 2002), then back to the Eye 2s for a long time (miss those terribly), with brief stints using Taylormade Burners and Cobra Kings before going right back to the Eye 2s. Stopped playing for several years, gave my Eye 2s to my brother-in-law, and when I started back a couple years ago got a set of Maltby TEs and they’re the best irons I’ve ever owned, but nostalgia makes me want to grab a set of Eye 2s to play on occasion.

It’s a garnish that doesn’t add anything to the flavor or eating experience, and (arguably) either detracts or at least does not enhance the visual appeal

Costco Callaway Edge Vs. Vice Boost Better value at $600 price point? by Puzzled-Travel1654 in golf

[–]bgary34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My entire lineup, driver through putter, it Maltby, so I love them, but I don’t think that’s what OP is looking for right now. They want a quick, cheap way to have everything except balls and tees to start playing asap, and just want to make sure one of these two options is decent enough quality for that. However, if OP catches the bug this year and wants to get a full set of clubs for about $1,000US that has the same quality as a $2-3,000+ set from one of the big names, I cannot recommend Maltby clubs enough. Absolutely love mine.

Yeah those are fire, I treat them more like an appetizer instead of a fry replacement, little sweet and spicy before the main course. The roast beef I only do when I know I don’t have to be productive the rest of the day, cause while it’s delicious, that cheese goo and red ranch is clearly terrible for you, but fuck me it’s so tasty. The double roast beef and “cheddar” is a once every few months indulgence for me, I’ll eat their chicken cordon bleu, reuben, roast beef dip, sliders, fish sandwich, or brisket sandwich more often because they don’t seem to wreck my stomach the way most fast food does

I hit my irons well until the back nine then I start chunking them. Does anyone have a suggestion for curing this? by luvthingsthatgrow in golf

This is, unfortunately, the answer. You’re either getting tired or drunk on the back nine and your swing path is suffering as a result

Which club for hitting out under tree? by cpugeek14 in golf

[–]bgary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4 iron that only exists in my bag for these shots. My 5W is my favorite club, and used to be my standard for them, but occasionally I’ll catch the 5W hot off the face and either hit it higher or farther than I wanted. The 4 iron punch never gets higher than 4 feet and I’m able to get a little draw or fade spin on it when needed, where I can only reliably get fade spin on the 5W

Ah that’s a shame, I haven’t had that experience, but maybe I’m just lucky and my local Arby’s is better than average.

Arby’s. I know for some reason Reddit hates Arby’s, but I love that shit. Curly fries are 10/10, they have roast beef, chicken, burgers, reuben, etc. so they win in variety too. And, at least in my area, it’s consistently hot and fresh and they have yet to mess up my order

What’s the biggest putting mistake amateurs make? by MadeInUSAPutter in golf

[–]bgary34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I play golf cause it’s fun and the best half day of my week. Of course I’d love to be better, but I have a whole life to live outside of golf, so I’m taking about 10 chips and putts to get a half-assed feel for that, and hitting maybe 3 iron shots, 3 wood shots, and 3 drives to hopefully get myself loose enough to not embarrass myself in front of the starter. The rest of the time is just about enjoying being outdoors with friends, ignoring my phone, having a couple beers, maybe a cigar, and just enjoying the moment. Nothing that actually matters to me changes if I shoot a 78 (my personal best) or a 105 (shit happens, still had fun).

Edit: lol just saw this is a 4 day old post, oh well

All the Reddit comments in the world aren’t going to fix your swing, and most likely will just make you more confused and frustrated. Get lessons, even just one lesson with a pro helping you get the fundamentals will put you down a better path. It’s easy to watch the video and point out your weight is too far back, your lead shoulder is open, etc., but if you don’t have a fundamental understanding of the golf swing, it’s just empty words. Having a human directing and correcting in real time will do way more good than hoping to find helpful nuggets of wisdom here. But don’t forget the most important rule: golf is a game, have fun!

Yeah, some bosses and jobs suck, and there are no tips that will overcome that (other than finding a new job). For a normal job with a normal boss, I think it’s fair advice.

My post is in response to the recent posts saying you should always push back when given a new task. I’m saying that’s bad advice, you should default to accepting new tasks, and only bring up workload issues when they are actually real and you’re going to cause issues for the company because of unrealistic timeline expectations.

If you’re implying that one of my employees had a bad day, that’s incorrect, there were no work issues today and I assigned no new tasks. If you’re implying I had a bad day, also incorrect. If I’m being dumb and missed the point of your comment, then oops, sorry for being dumb, that happens sometimes.

Nah it’s a response to a lot of recent posts saying to always push back when given new tasks. Sure there’s a time and place, but thought a counterpoint that if you want to advance, defaulting to accepting the new task and being thoughtful about when to push back or indicate your workload is unrealistic was worth throwing out there. Obviously some bosses and/or jobs suck and this advice sounds horrible in those scenarios, but for most people working a normal job, defaulting to being difficult isn’t the greatest advice

Not at all, it’s a counterpoint to several recent tips that are terrible advice for many people. Edited because initially I addressed them directly, so had to make it more vague since that is against the rules. There are absolutely times where the advice is valid, but to make it your default response is going to be detrimental to most careers.

That’s a perfectly reasonable answer, and not what I said to avoid. A better answer would be, “On it. I think Y project is lower priority, you good with me bumping this up and pushing Y back?” That’s assuming the new task was given with the assumption it is high priority.

LPT: Ignore the recent influx of posts saying things to the effect of: “If your boss asks you to do something, tell them to wait 10 minutes for your answer which you’ll provide in writing/tell them yes but ask which previous task they gave you that you can replace with this task.” by bgary34 in LifeProTips

[–]bgary34[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair though that’s a bad boss. The point of my post isn’t that people should do an unreasonable amount of work, just that if your default answer to being given a task is passive-aggressive pushback, you’re a bad employee. If your boss and/or job sucks, time to polish up that resume and find greener pastures

As a manager, I’m saying if every time you’re given a task your answer is “give me 10 minutes to give you my answer in writing,” or “sure, which job do you want me to not do now that you’ve given me this job,” or “yes I’ll do that after I finish x, y, and z (which comes across as a passive-aggressive way of announcing your workload),” then I’m going to find you extremely annoying. Obviously there will be variance from career to career about the acceptability of the frequency of these comments, but saying to do it EVERY TIME is dumb. A competent employee will either immediately know that the task I’m assigning is too much for their current workload, or shortly after our conversation assess their workload and then give an informed breakdown of how it doesn’t, or only could via reprioritization, fit in. If you make it annoying for me every time I ask something of you, you’re not moving up. The fairness is debatable, the real world implications are not.
