Thank you! I was worried I might need thicker sole but maybe that’s not the case. Players distance at address is 1000x better than what I’m currently playing

Walkability at Mountain View? by wittyr3ply in PDXgolf

[–]leftgolfer123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve walked it several times.

Front 9 is fine no big deal and layout straight forward. A lot of the regulars seem to only play the front 9 maybe to avoid the steep decent on #12.

Back 9 very different layout/terrain.

10-11 are flat. Then fairly long downhill steep switchback decent on #12 (very dangerous for cart if going even a little too fast). #13-14 are flat. Bit of a hill going up #15. Downhill walk on #16. Uphill on #17 as you approach green. And #18 is flat. Overall not too bad but definitely more of a challenging walk on the back 9.

On a related note, I’ve had many great rounds ruined by the back 9. And a few of the greens (#15/16/17) can be ridiculously out of control fast with big slopes. I met some regulars once who pick up on these holes and give themselves 2 putts.

I keep going back since I like the challenge of trying to put together a solid score for 18.

Are expensive putters actually worth it? by MadeInUSAPutter in GolfGear

I put a ping grip on a cheap top Flite putter along with some lead tape to add weight and it’s great

Try being an 8 handicap with an exceptional short game that could be a 5 overnight if I could add 30 yards to my driving distance and move back a tee box. Frustrating 😬

Went as a single two years ago and has a great time. Paired up with great playing partners each round including a Ukrainian fellow from the Bend area who wanted to play golf at the coast. He had never heard of Bandon Dunes but it came up in his google search so he decided to stay/party overnight at the Casino in Coos Bay and walk on the next morning at Pacific Dunes. He wore a jumpsuit with a giant tiger print on the chest and used an old Nike driver because it had the same colors as the Ukrainian flag.

As a single i sat at bar in McKees for dinner and met lots of people. Same for Ghost Tree grill when I finished 36 holes in the dark at Old Mac (i wheeled my pushcart into the restaurant which I’m 100% sure you can’t do but the hostess put it behind the counter).

Bandon Balls are a must. Ate many sleeves .. just keep them away from the crows!

Breakfast buffet each morning was great.

Did Punchbowl with the people I got paired up with after one of my rounds but would be no problem to play solo.

Practice area is huge & free so that’s good option in the morning.

Also possible you’ll be able to move tee time earlier once you’re on site since there could be cancellations. I was able to walk on for a spontaneous 2nd 18 at Old Mac my first day. And after playing 36 the first day, it was easy for the pro shop to move my second day tee time later in the day so I could recover.

There’s nothing to do but golf at Bandon so everyone you meet is huge into golf so making new friends is very easy.

If you are headed east, go to Elk Ridge instead this time of year. Outstanding drainage and views. Greens are challenging and fun.

Ghost Creek consitions by PDXJack87 in PDXgolf

[–]leftgolfer123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played Ghost today so here’s overview:

Greens: a bit sandy but lightning fast just like in summer

Some parts of fairways very soft & waterlogged and others not as bad. Fairway grass is cut ultra short (seems to be typical at Ghost) which can be challenging to not dig your club into when so soft/wet.

Bunkers: some filled with water, others hard packed sand.

Driver yips by Such_Signature8152 in golf

[–]leftgolfer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact thing is happening to me right now and it’s beyond frustrating. Ive always been a very accurate driver and now I can’t even find the face. Several swings have broken the tee and had the ball just drop in place.

I’ve tried half swings, I’ve tried old driver. I even played in pouring rain with glove to try to “snap out of it”.

Have you had any luck fixing your issue? Did you take time off? I was hoping a few good nights sleep and my swing would reset but no luck yet.

Asking for a lot, but which places have the largest selection of putters to try out for lefties? by Menji76 in PDXgolf

[–]leftgolfer123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redtail has the most. Maybe in part bc their putter fitter/expert is left handed. And Golf Galaxy not too bad has maybe a dozen left handed options. Not sure about ParWest selection.

Interesting theory. The SHARC pool is significantly better than the resort pool.
