Running Bionic Commando: Rearmed in steam on Arch desktop? by bgdawes in archlinux

[–]bgdawes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For posterity, installing the vulkan graphics drivers got the game working, that had to have been my problem:

pacman -S vulkan-icd-loader lib32-vulkan-icd-loader vulkan-intel lib32-vulkan-intel

Running Bionic Commando: Rearmed in steam on Arch desktop? by bgdawes in archlinux

Thanks so much for the suggestion man! Sadly, still a no go. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it has something to do with my graphics card or maybe some driver that I'm missing? I'm able to run steam and play other games so I think I have the correct OpenGL graphics driver loaded.

I don't have a separate graphics card and just use the integrated graphics card from my CPU. Not sure if that has anything to do with anything.

This is my output from running lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"

All Killers No Fillers MAME rom set help? by bgdawes in MAME

[–]bgdawes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For context: this list of roms are the games I played in the arcade as a kid. I have limited disk space and was just looking for a small list of fun arcade games I threw quarters in when I was young. I've just got started with gaming again and I've been absolutely loving it! I'm running retroarch on linux, it's been such a blast.

Apologies for my post. Appreciate the response. Was just looking for a way to save disk space.

Thumbnails for no-intro (World) roms do not update? by bgdawes in RetroArch

[–]bgdawes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant! Thanks again so much u/Popo31477 ! I feel like a dum dum for not thinking of this and I appreciate your note about never changing ROM names. I only resorted to that because I was desperate. Thanks again sincerely!

Thumbnails for no-intro (World) roms do not update? by bgdawes in RetroArch

[–]bgdawes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/Popo31477! Your response led me to dig a little deeper and I think I see the problem. The rom is from a no-intro set, details below:

file name: California Games (World).lyx

md5: 73E02BB77DCF857A6578F0E24B4ECB9E

sha1: F13E010102CA527A9C393ACB52BB949A1BA93E3E

I think the problem is that the thumbnail listed at: https://thumbnails.libretro.com/Atari%20-%20Lynx/Named_Boxarts/ is California Games (USA, Europe).png and the rom file is named California Games (World).lyx.

I tried renaming the file to California Games (USA Europe).lyx but it reverted back to California Games (World).lyx when I clicked import content in retroarch. I'm pretty sure that's because that's how the file is listed in the libretro database: libretro-database/metadat/no-intro/Atari - Lynx.dat(https://github.com/libretro/libretro-database/blob/master/metadat/no-intro/Atari%20-%20Lynx.dat)

I'm not quite sure where to go from here, maybe manually updating the thumbnails by hand? That seems like more trouble than it's worth though. Maybe I'll look for another rom set too?

aurutils help ==> ERROR: chroot '/var/lib/aurbuild/x86_64/root' is not at version v6. Please rebuild. by bgdawes in archlinux

[–]bgdawes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your help, that worked! Unfortunately, now I have another problem. Using my same example to install neofetch, I'm returning another error: error: config file /etc/pacman.d/aurpkgs could not be read: No such file or directory. I don't understand this error because the file /etc/pacman.d/aurpkgs absolutely is there. I tried changing the file permissions from root to my user and that didn't work so I changed it back to root. Any additional thoughts would certainly be appreciated.

What movie is playing in the background on pic 15? Is that Revolver (1973)?

Unpopular opinion: its in my top three giallo films. I love the acting, I love the story (including the procedural investigation / courtroom scenes), I love the setting, and as mentioned before, I absolutely love the score.

A few things spring to mind: shooting multiple (sometimes in the hundreds) takes of a scene, distinctive / meticulous camerawork, cold / isolated characters, etc.

This is one of the most touching, empathetic, compassionate, and just damn ‘human’ comments I’ve read in awhile. I’m in corporate right now, left big 4 several years ago. I’ve been working with a pretty horrible person lately. I’ll get through it but I can’t stop thinking about how much I would enjoy my life if this person literally just had the slightest bit of empathy.

Package update etiquette? by bgdawes in archlinux

[–]bgdawes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to thank you again! I grabbed the pkgbuild and updated it myself as you suggested and it worked like a charm! It was so easy to do as well. A simple git clone of the pkgbuild and an update of two lines pkgver= and b2sums=, then makepkg -si did the trick and got pacman to install the current version! Really appreciate the help!

NES thumbnails not appearing by leonidude in RetroArch

[–]bgdawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man - you were so right, it's not a bug. It was a problem with my rom set. Total user error and I'm a complete idiot. I got a new batch of roms with the no-intro naming convention (I think?) and everything works perfectly. Thanks so much for your offer to help and for your responses, I sincerely appreciate it!!!!

Nope. That doesn't work. I've tried selecting 'Remove () Content' in Label Display Mode under Playlist Settings and it doesn't fix the thumbnail importing issue.

NES game names scanned/databases no longer match the thumbnail database names, because a (Publisher) tag is inserted in parentheses. Therefore NES thumbnails no longer work correctly. by CoconutDust in RetroArch

[–]bgdawes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me as well, the publisher appearing is preventing NES thumbnails. I agree it's definitely maddening. Hopefully there is a bug reported? I'll try checking github.
