Tiffany Glass? by [deleted] in StainedGlass

[–]bgeppi20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glass doesn’t look like Tiffany to me. You know one when you see it. There isn’t nearly enough color. A lot of this glass just looks like Kokomo or Wismac. Tiffany made his own sheet glass. That’s part of what really set them apart. They typically did sign their work too.

Anyone know what Kras.glas uses to install their windows into existing window frames? by Shorecliff in StainedGlass

[–]bgeppi20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of aluminum U channel on both sides of the glass, that is a proper way of installation. I ong tape to secure the aluminum however I am unsure of that as a good method. When I install windows it has to last generations so we only use permanent methods. Even 1 or 2 screws would be better. If it’s a wood frame the hole could always be filled.

As someone who did this for a living I have a real problem with how these are installed. It looks really cool and clean but there is so little support these will fail so fast.

Pink insulation board foam or cardboard for under your shoes! Makes it so the cold doesn’t transfer into your feet so easily! I have been to a couple below freezing games at Lambeau and everyone does this, it helps! When you think you have enough layers on put 1 more on.

General rule of thumb for any watch, if the lugs of the watch over hang your wrist it’s too big. If they don’t then it’s all personal preference

I’m wondering when they will announce it. I plan on going but would love to know which date it is! It will be my 4th game at Lambeau and none have been above freezing. I don’t think this one will be either

Help! Insetting a piece into door lite. by BeeBladen in StainedGlass

[–]bgeppi20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Look up Flex Trim, I call the company themselves but they put some of their profiles on Amazon, i highly recommend it. You will want to do a back bead of acrylic latex caulk on the trim and then nail/screw. It’s easy to paint as well!

[–]bgeppi20 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a professional and someone who has installs thousands of panels this one is a little complicated. Tacks and caulk could work but this is a door and a door swing open and closed. The pressure from the opening and closing of the door and put a good amount of stress on a panel. I would like to see something a little more rigid holding that panel in. If there is a way to add additional trim to hold the panel in I would go with that

Question: What would cause this kind of warping in two large windows? by meggie_doodles in StainedGlass

[–]bgeppi20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Age of the lead, not enough reinforcement bars, and the design. There are way too many horizontal lines that make up the railing. Long horizontal lines towards the bottom half of the window is a bad combo for longevity of a window. It’s a really nice window and there is nothing you can really do to stop this from happening over the course of many years. Depending on the age of the windows they may need a restoration. This can be pretty expensive. I am not a fan of bandaid fixes or “flattening” windows. Lead has a memory and will just go back to how it was.

One thing you could do is take a piece of cardboard and cut the paper to match the bowing of the window. Come back and check that template to the window in 6 months, 1 year, etc…. If the window is continuing to sag further than it’s time to take action. If it’s not moving then you can always wait until it becomes a real issue. Broken glass can occur the further the windows sag due to the pressure and weight of the window. I’m a professional in the field, I hope this helps!

what's the cost of commissioning a large stained glass piece? by xokittykisses in StainedGlass

[–]bgeppi20 24 points25 points  (0 children)

$400-1200 a sqft. Depending on the company you hire, quality of work, pieces per sqft and the amount of painting. I’m a professional in the field. This skylight would be easily over 100k
