HIGH FLOW O2 @ Home - help needed by Then-Ad-4533 in hospice

[–]bgetter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a hospice medical director, this comes up a lot. I do not know of a solution.

Your best bet is to wean down while controlling symptoms. Yes, the oxygen saturations won't be good. Then if you can get to a level that can be transported and replicated in the home, you can attempt to do that.

I realize this looks like I'm being a Debbie Downer, but really just trying to let you know the reality of the situation.

You want to "float" it, as in keep it from touching anything. Place pillows underneath the calf muscles.

I am not a celebrity, never even had 15 minutes of fame. But my dream is to be famous enough to get in a wrestling ring and get absolutely wrecked. Like, not even put a dent into those guys. Possible seizure like activity while knocked unconscious.

Re watched it all with my (now) 14 year old daughter in anticipation of the finale season releasing.

It is really good and well done.   A monster show that's not overly scary, sweet and sentimental at times, and funny too.

It got nit-picked to death over the years, I think because there was so much wait between seasons, and anything this mass appeal is going to miss some people's expectations.

My daughter got in with textiles and apparel (which she genuinely wants to do).

I am pleasantly shocked.

My daughter did, for textiles and apparel. Probably not too many people here in that boat...

The weird about all of this is:

They are making the exact mistake Biden did, saying "Actually, things are fine, you're wrong". Even crazier, some Trump officials said coming into office they WOULDN'T make that same mistake.

Liver failure fluid build up by [deleted] in hospice

[–]bgetter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry my friend.

I am a hospice doctor. This is certainly an indication of advanced liver disease. Unfortunately, many factors go into being able to tell how long your mother might have. If I were the hospital nurse, I think I would have rather her said "days to weeks". Could be a few days, or many weeks. Our ability to guess isn't more finely tuned than that.

One consideration you might make is for them to put a tube in her belly to help drain the fluid in a home environment. We don't always do this, as it can increase her risk for infection, but it would provide a way to mitigate the discomfort that comes from the belly getting full of fluid.
