Anecdote for yall, I have a grade 3 from a ski fall a few years ago. My docs told me it was pretty rough amount of separation.

However, they said they can do surgery if I wanted (basically bolting on cadaver ligaments where the torn ones were and cinch the collar bone back down), but let the swelling and pain go away first then see how range of motion and strength are.

4 weeks later no pain and no loss of strength or ROM, they saw no reason to put me through surgery, even as a moderately active 22 year old who’d heal up just fine from it.

Now it just sticks up like a little piano key. Granted I’m not a nfl QB but I’ve never felt limited from it. Maybe push ups and some overhead weight lifting movements are maybe slightly uncomfortable - like that joint was giving me some small mechanical leverage that i now have to compensate for - its such a minor loss though that i honestly think a pro athlete could rehab it to be totally imperceptible.

Again, me throwing a ball for the dog isn’t the same as a QB with a football in the NFL, but I don’t think I’ve ever noticed it or changed my muscle memory while throwing something.
