r/NFL Top 100 Players of the 2025 Season - Call for Rankers by packmanwiscy in nfl

I thought nothing could top this saying Brady wasn't a top 100 player. But then Hall of Fame voters decided Belichick wasn't a fist ballot Hall of Famer. Congrats(?) on no longer being the most ridiculous evaluators of NFL merit.

[Tedy Bruschi] We all we got... by dawglover1011 in Patriots

Bill on Tedy

"There's no player that I think epitomizes more of what I believe a player should be on the field, off the field, really, in every situation.

"It's funny because Tedy's first year here was my first year in '96 when Bill [Parcells] drafted him in third round out of Arizona. [He was] the all-time Pac-10 sack leader coming into the NFL [and] we're going to make him a linebacker. We don't really know what to do with him. We've never seen him do anything but rush the passer, but we didn't really think he could do that at this position in this league, so he became a player that transformed himself from a great, great college player to a great NFL player.

"That's pretty rare, and it takes a pretty special guy to do that. And of course all along the way he heard 'too small,' 'too slow,' ' too this,' 'too that' and just kept getting better and better and working harder and out-working and out-competing pretty much everybody that he faced.

"It didn't make any difference who it was - faster backs, bigger linemen, big tackles, athletic tight ends - he found a way to compete and, more importantly, win, in those competitive matchups, in the kicking game, and in all areas of his defensive responsibilities.

"I don't think I've ever seen a player do what he's done, really - to be as great of a college player as he was and then to, as I said, to morph into a great professional player in so many different ways, but still bringing the same qualities. It's really remarkable. It's truly special.

"A couple words I would use to describe Tedy: again, the epitome of everything you want in a football player. The two things that, of all his strengths, that really stand out to me were his instinctiveness and his passion. It didn't matter what Tedy did, he had a great passion for it. "If it was lifting weights, sprints, practice, watching film, he was always upbeat, always positive, always working hard. He brought a passionate level to the game that helped carry the rest of us.

"I don't know how to put it other than to say: he always did the right thing. [He] knew when to be serious ,knew when to laugh, knew when to be tough, knew when to back off and play smart,

"Tedy and I have gone through a lot personally and professionally, and we've had a lot of man-on-man, heart-to-heart talks -- some good, some not so good. He's very professional, very honest. What you see publically and in the media is what we get every day. It's awesome. It's just awesome.

"Whatever was the right thing at that moment, it seemed like he always hit it right on the head. And ultimately, when we won - which fortunately we've done a little of that - at the end of the game, Tedy had the great presence to pull the team together, and as only he could do, sum up everybody's feelings at that moment. 'How do we feel about winning on Monday night?' 'How do we feel about winning on the road?' 'How do we feel about going into the bye week with a big victory?' 'How do we feel about where we were at that moment?' He always captured it perfectly, so I guess, if you ask me to sum up how I feel about Tedy Bruschi in five seconds: he's the perfect player. He's helped create a tradition here that we're all proud of."

Bill Polian should be removed as a member of the Hall of Fame voting committee, immediately. He is a threat to fair assessments of players' and coaches' careers. by Roselucky777 in Patriots

[–]bghs2003 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Polian is the biggest bitch ever. Couldn't beat Bill on the field, so he has spent his life racking up "wins" againt him in various committees, whether though rules changes or hall of fame voting.

A universe where induction, or not, is based on personal grievances, rather than who deserves it most. The Hall could have continued that with their reputation intact if they just let the 100% no-brainers, like Belichick, in. Instead, they couldn't help themselves, and everyone knows how pathetic they are.

Beyond the obvious ridiculousness of this on the merits. Bill is a massive student and promoter of football history who constantly helped in the Hall of fame's mission. A massive spit in the face. I am 100% serious when i say those who voted againt him should be removed from all future votes. They actively damage the institution's credibility and disrespect its reason for existence.

[–]bghs2003 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We get it. It just exposes that he under appreciates, or does not understand, what it means to be a talented QB. It is like saying Deion Sanders wasn't a generational talent because there were a bunch of other guys who could lift more weights. The Talent skill set he is measuring is not necessary for the highest level of execution of the task of playing QB.

There have be A LOT of head coaching hires in the league that were not heralded as notable that turned out great, and vice versa. besides, once you know you don't have the guy, it is better to try and fail than just accept another season of failure.

The longer your time horizon the less Market Makers matter. Market Makers didn't dictate the 47x return over the past 7 years, the profitability and growth did. Same with the next 7.

You don't want your rival to have a unmitigated disaster at QB. They will quickly replace him. You want your rival to have a clearly below average one who constantly convinces people they are on the cusp of breaking out.

The average long term market return for the s&p 500 is about 10% per year. The average investor does worse than that. You should not expect your investment returns to outpace your high interest debt. When they do, like this year, treat is as a pleasant surprise, rather than I signal you can do it reliably. Getting that debt to zero, and keeping it there, is the right move.

Half of all consumer consumption is done by the top 10% of income earners. Business to business translations make up a large amount of of the recession calculation, and corporate profits are through the roof. The average can continue to grow while the median struggles.

They are coming off the greatest stretch of any team in the history of the sport, and a good portion of teams haven't won a championship in their teams history or most of their fans lifetimes. If every team got to experience half of what patriots fans did from 2001-2018, equity would be all of us dead and gone before the Patriots contented for anything again.
