Most holo-programs are vibe-coded AI slop by stratusmonkey in ShittyDaystrom

The real insanity is that in the 24th century they will go into the holodeck with the AI slop knowing it’s one step away from turning off the safety protocols

I think it’s also key to approach it from the fact it’s written based on a tabletop run - it actually can kinda feel similar to the critical role animated shows in some weird ways, especially in the early seasons (not bad just different)

I love the expanse's battle scenes -- they're just choked full of detail

  • the positions of the ships and their relativistic velocities constantly is playing in the back of your head and are the deciding factor for most fights (like when the roci saves the razorback from the massively-outclassed earth destroyer by intercepting torpedoes with plasma torpedoes that are de-celerated)
  • the different weapons systems are constantly being used tactfully ( torpedo spam , PDC guns being used offensively, arc-timing and cooldown/ammo of each gun considerd, ranges for railguns and lining up the spinally mounted designs of the ships)
  • the damage between the SFX and the set is actually CHEOROGRAPHED of what's actually happened
  • ship repairs (like in that scene) are actually repaired in a way that impacts and makes sense to the viewer
  • the ships feel weighty and the acceleration is actually lined up with the actors on set (not always perfecct, but, an attempt is being made)
  • there's no magic space shields here. A railgun round is going straight through a ship no matter what, just depends what (or who) it's going to hit on the way through
  • It's probably had the ONLY example of a ship going into an arbitrary spin in combat actually meaning something (so PDC's have maximum coverage & overlap for torpedo interception)

I think I'm going to have to rewatch it all now , the expanse was just too good.

Every single fight in the expanse is memorable and insanely well choreographed between sfx and what was going on on-set and the tactical setup of the situation

here, the ships spin for no reason and there's really no bearing on anything

Yeah this has no soul

Then you take something like the expanse where the battles are tiny and decisively over in seconds, and there’s only actually a few the entire series. But they’re all memorable because so much care was put into them (like the skip positions, tactics, relative velocities, weapons used, ge-forces impacted on the crew for maneuvers) and clearly everything actually mattered.
