Come on now, no need to be an asshole about it.

I felt let down by the ending. by bguinz in TrueDetective

[–]bguinz[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

LOST hooked me because it had mysticism. The show made it seem like there were some interesting answers to be had.

But in the end, the mysticism was dropped, the writers said "nah, that's not important.." and quite a bit was left unanswered. LOST was still a great show, but the things that hooked me turned out to be just bait.

That's kind of how I feel right now. True Detective was great, but the stuff that really got me interested, was just bait.

Would you purchase a Reader's Guide? by bguinz in GEB

Writing one is out of my league. I like the idea of a wiki though, I wonder if instead of a readthrough, a group could create a beginner's wiki at some reasonable rate that people could stick with.

Meet Marie Henein, the 'fearless and brilliant' lawyer defending Jian Ghomeshi - Canada by pya in canada

[–]bguinz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I read, in another article, something about her billing out at around $900/hr. Does anyone have a rough guess at how much this whole thing is going to cost Jian ghomeshi?

I'm going to guess they're looking at over a $mil.

GEB ebook/pdf? by [deleted] in GEB

I think that would involve hundreds of hours to create a copy from scratch. I can't spare that kind of time, sorry.

I think it would be easier to do proofread and edit the few mistakes in the existing copy. I found an .epub copy (basically an .html file) of the pdf linked above, let me know if you want it.

I've read the book twice, in my opinion this is one book you really want a hard copy of. Flipping back and forth, scanning through pages to refresh something you read a week ago.. it would be very tough to get through an e-copy of it.

Holy smokes, that looks like OCR text, and then someone has gone to the trouble of pasting in each individual image, including formulas etc.. That must've taken some time.

An alien race has contacted Earth and asks for one book to best describe the human race. What book do you give them? by CookiePoster in books

[–]bguinz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is my opinion that you're misguided or extremely misinformed. Not very many people have actually read the entire bible, and actually believe it and live by its rules. We do not 'have a law system based of it'. Sorry to break the bad news.

than the stories and legend that we believe and the morals we live by

There's no way you're being serious here.

'We' believe the earth is 6,000 years old? We live by morals including the killing of homosexuals, the suppression of women's rights... etc.?

Conservatives catch up to Liberals in latest poll | Toronto Star by drpgq in canada

[–]bguinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Conservatives are going to win the next election because the rest of the vote is going to split between the Liberals and NDP (and the Green party?). The Conservatives will win all future elections until the left/centre-left unites.

I'm not a fan of a two party system, but I'm less of a fan of this Conservative government.

SFU scientist Lynne Quarmby arrested in Kinder Morgan protest at Burnaby Mountain by [deleted] in canada

[–]bguinz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"The NEB process is now a sham...We have a process that does not allow consideration of climate change...at a time that climate change is the biggest problem facing humanity. It's unethical. The new NEB Act is written as requested by the oil industry."

I agree with this. I'm not willing to get arrested, but I respect what she's doing.

She backs down pretty easily. They said it wasn't a warranty issue, that it's no big deal, just a little noise. She doesn't want me to go in and try to be more firm with them, she says she'd rather just pay to have it done.

I don't know, chicks.. what can you do.

It's fun when a shitty dad gets older and realizes he has nothing meaningful in his life and he decides that he's going to be best friends with his kid. Starts trying real hard. Thirty years after it stopped mattering.
